    The same thing happened to problem bears in Yosemite (Ca.) They get relocated in Happy Camp Ca. Which, is about 20 miles east of Campbell lake / Cliff lake area, in the Marble mountains wilderness. We have seen more bears in the last 10 years, than we have seen in the 30 years we have been hiking this area.

    Grizzlies can smell food up to 20 miles away. They can smell human scent for days after the human has left an area. Don't use your nose as the yardstick for scent in the wilderness.

    I've almost exclusively done away with shorts on trail. There are so many light weight, stretchy, quick drying pants available these days. I already have Lyme so they're better for ticks and also over grown sections of trails.

      @@douglasjones3930seems like a comparison to me no ? I don’t believe there was an insult anywhere in the comment . What’s petty is you trying to start something from nothing , and my god grow some skin it’s a hiking trail and I’m sure everyone has their favourites and or least favourite.

    • @douglasjones3930
      @douglasjones3930 3 місяці тому

      @@brandonbriscoe613 The Appalachian mountains are 400 million years older than the Rockies so there is little comparison. It is the green tunnel reference that is thrown around like an insult. To say “and it isn’t a green tunnel” is to infer that being a green tunnel is a bad thing. Anyone that has an issue with the green tunnel can’t see the forest for the trees. The CDT is also graded for horses not just a footpath like the AT.

    9 lives, this is huckleberry over! Great video! I actually went looking for huckleberries yesterday (July 15,24) and found literally four, still a little early in the season for this year at least. You might find some trail nibbles if you keep an eye out. It is amazing how your bodies recover so quick after 25 milers etc. Whose big toe was that? Those were moose tracks by the way. Keep cool, jump in any stream this summer any chance you get to help regulate your thermoregulation. God bless!

If Sun Balm is really a good sunscreen , maybe they can make a combo Sun screen/ bug repellant cream ,, usually has to be 40% deet but applying one over the other usually wipes off the first applied ... .. I once timed myself to switch to crocs, cross, dry my feet and put the socks and shoes back on. It took 10 minutes. I knew I had 2 more river crossings that day and had to do 22 miles before the last shuttle pickup at 4, so I figured I did not have 20 minutes to spare for the remaining 2.
      Also, past a certain depth/speed, you need to wear your most tractive shoe option, which would be your hiking shoes.

    It certainly sounds plausible that problem bears would be moved to the Bob Marshall Wilderness given that its USFS managed land. If the bear is tagged and tracked then moving it to the Wilderness would still have it be located on federal land where it could have an eye kept on it by a federal wildlife manager but have less of a chance to have a negative encounter with humans than in the national park.
    I don't know, but it sounds logical.
