Years ago I met an Iraqi brother who belongs to the Sunni school but hands out water to (mostly) Shi’i pilgrims walking between Najaf and Karbala. When I asked him about it, he smiled and said, “When you have love of Ahlulbayt in your heart, Sunni and Shi’a disappear.”

Now we're quick to want to have an interfaith dialogue with Christians, Jews, and other faiths and there's nothing wrong with that. However, we should strive harder to have dialogues with other Muslims. Masha'Allah, great work!!

What I don't understand about Shiism is that if it is legit then we should have a steady stream of writings dating back to Ali and back and forth dialogue between Sunni and Shia perspectives. But by this teacher's own admission, this sort of dialogue doesn't occur till the 4th century of Islam. It looks to me that the Ummayads introduced Muhammad to provide context for the inscrutable Quran. Then the Abbasids elevated Ali and wrote hadith about him to discredit the Umayyads. Next, the Fatimids elevated Ali even further to discredit the Abbasids and wrote their own hadith. No earlier Shia dialogue because they didn't even exist till the 4th century of Islam, after al Bukhari and all the Sunni hadith were composed.

@@peterhwang1860 You are right you don't understand.
The Shia of Ali were known during the time of the Prophet. There are plenty of hadith even in sunni sources.
I don't think any fair academic will deny this.
Even sunni scholarship don't deny there was dispute over leadership.
Who forbids the writing of hadith?
You can't have it both ways whendunni Khalifah forbid writing of hadith when it would have been best time record but then say oh but there not much written sources earlier on. They forbid because they knew it would not look favourably on them taking power.
Everyone understand those who run media control the narrative of the status quo.
So remember who was in power they are hardly going to allow another narrative openly which goes against them ruling.
What you don't seem to understand of Shia view is it doesn't matter if divine leadership hold political power or not.
There doesn't need to be any debates especially when you would be persecuted for it.
None of your argument makes sense because it is built on false premise that society then was like now. That there was freedom to debate.
Also the word ahl sunnat jamah didn't exist and didn't come until far later. Unless like Shia which used in the time of the Prophet (sawa)

@@peterhwang1860 Also the claim Abbasid promoted the name of Ali is completely false. What did is claim leadership based on their relationship to the Prophet.
Used sympathy for what happened at Karbala to Prophet family to gather support for false pretence of getting justice but then laid their own stake to leadership.
They couldn't promote Ali right as it would show they were wrong to take power. If you knew about Islamic history you would know of the discussions of Abbasid Khalifahs disputing the right of Ali against the Imams of the Shia.
One famous one I think was Ma'moon asked Imam Redha what is evidence of Imam Ali Khalifat he said sura Mubahila.

I am from a part of South India where there is almost no Shia Islam. I usually go to a Salafi Mosque where they normally despise and mention Shia Islam in a very poor manner. Once during Friday Sermon, it was mentioned Shia Islam was created as part of a Jewish conspiracy. (Hatred against all jews propagated is another matter to be discussed). I was taken back by the statement. I did my research and found differences exist (in rituals and practices few I may not agree with), but there is nothing of that sort it being a conspiracy. The fact that the Ahl al-Bayt - Hassan, Hussian and their families were brutally murdered by the forefathers of Salafi-Wahabis is always hidden on purpose by the wahhabi propaganda. Also found the Salafi-Wahhabism is funded by Saudi money in India which propagates hatred against other sects of Islam which itself is un-islamic.

Thanks to let the Quran speak for doing this, as a sunni Muslim I’ve seen Sunnis never allow dialogue between themselves and Shias and often thought that was absolutely wrong to do as we aren’t allowing themselves to explain or engage in conversation. We are assuming and forming opinions without knowing, unlike what our religion teaches. I was fortunate enough to come from a family that didn’t shun Shias and were pretty open to them so I knew to respect them from a young age. Unfortunately not many can say the same.

And time proved that this division thing really happened when his turn came. Muslims even slaughtered each other during his reign as a khalifa.
So his Muslim brothers that time, Abu bakr, Umar, Uthman and others were right.

This was a great introductory video and provided space for the voice of Shi'ism in the space of dialogue.
It was slightly unfortunate however that the discussion on Shi'ism here fell into the same pitfall as conversations about "Islam" (usually meaning "Sunni" Islam) as it was only used to refer to the largest branch of Shi'ism, namely "Twelver" or "Ithna'ashari" Shi'ism and entirely omitted mention of the 2nd and 3rd largest Shi'i communities, namely the Ismaili and Zaydi Shia.
Even if the perspective and conversation remained as it was, it would have been better to mention the diversity in Shi'ism and then more accurate to highlight that this video would be from the Twelver Shi'i perspective.
A good video nonetheless that will help to build bridges.

In India, Shias were brutally persecuted by Sunni forces in the 16th century (especially Kashmir) and it continued for hundreds of years. But it starts much earlier, in the 14th century, and this is within India. Shia refugees were coming into India from outside too starting before. Persecution of Shias was rife in the Middle East and Afghanistan. I don't know why Syed sets this topic so late in history.

“Combining the prayers is a tradition we find very convenient ”
Umm, ok. Whats next ? Will skipping the prayers entirely become “convenient?”

    • @alb_ssx
      @alb_ssx Рік тому +1

You have to understand a few things here. One being, we believe our Imam’s (as) are the only source of true Prophetic Sunnah. Only traditions narrated by them can be relied upon to derive laws. And we have in our books narrations from them that say that combining prayers doesn’t decrease their reward in any way. The thing that is emphasised upon is praying the prayer in Awwal waqt, their prime time. We have traditions from our Imams (as) which say that the Prophet (pbuh) combined prayers even when there were no special circumstances. And when he was asked about it, He (pbuh) said that it is to make ease for my Ummah. You don’t have to agree or believe this, but I hope you can see and understand our practice a little better.

I understand your point but even in Sunni Islam prayers can be combined but this should be the exception, not the rule. It sounds like in Shia tradition the exceptions become the rule.

    • @alb_ssx
      @alb_ssx Рік тому

@@user-user-user-user. That's the difference though, in our literature it's not an exception rather an alternative. Praying separately 5 times a day was definitely the norm, but we can combine prayers as an alternative not just an exception according to our hadith literature. Wallahu Alam.

Sunnis are reliant on Saudi scholars, hadith and fatwas.
Shias are the same, but from Iranian scholars and their own kufi hadith.
      Neither are correct.
It is Quran only that is correct.

This is promoting that both sunni and shia aqueedah can be correct. I am of the Sunni understanding although I prefer to be called a "Muslim." According to my beliefs, we can't both be correct because only one way can be following the prophet(pbuh.) Are religion is from Allah and he chose the companions around our prophet to help preserve our Qur'an and Sunnah of Muhammad(Saws.) What we consider shirk and kufr, many shias don't. We are different and can't be both right.

Assalamo alaykom, I think you misinterpreted what he said. The same way you can write a dua you could come up with a dua yourself, Imam Ali (asws) also composed duas himself and we read some of these due to their beauty and eloquence. There is no doubt that Imam Ali (asws) learned the complete sunnah from his master, Muhammad Rasoul Allah (SAWW).

You don't get Sunni Muslims and shia Muslims.
    You get Muslims and shias.
    2 separate religions.
The shia beliefs are are completely different from Muslim.
1)They believe in imaamat. Their imams are superior to Prophets .
    Their imaams get wahi,revelation.
    2) Taqiyya. Speaking lies or concealing the truth. For shias it's a great ibaadat.
    3) Mut'ah marriage. Prostitution
    4) Believe that besides a handful of Sahabas, all are kaafirs. The mothers of the believers are kaafir.
When Allah praises them in the Qur'aan, the shia calls them kaafirs.
    4) The shia believe that the present Qur'aan is altered and the 12th Imam in hiding has the true Qur'aan. Really!!
Their kitaabs are now available. Read what is their true beliefs
    Usool Kaafi etc

All sects in Islam except Twelver Shias have corrupt Tawhid. They say God naudubillah has a hand, they say he has feet naudubillah They say they'll be able to see God in paradise naudubillah with their eyes as if God is a physical entity that can be encapsulated in their limited vision
They say God ascends and descends the heavens naudubillah. So, who's the real Muslim? The one who was taught the true Tawheed taught by Prophet (saww) and his pure progeny.

I went to a Shia school and wallahi, alhamdulilah I NEVER had a teacher disrespect any sahabah but I do know there is a minority of jehl that exist which started in Kufa by the very people who deceived our prophet SAW’s grandson RA.
I was taught the same things that this speaker said; such as, the fact that imam Jafar had several sunni students and if the whole cursing of Abu Bakr RA, Umar ibn Khattab RA and Aisha RA was at all common in the original Shi3at ul Ali community then we wouldn’t have had so many early sunni scholars who were taught by Shia scholars and vice versa.

9:20 he just side stepped the question of cursing the companions. Most senior companions not to mention the wives of Prophet (Pbuh) are treated with utmost disrespect and ritually slandered by this sect.
You really need all the “supplication” tradition after all the slandering you do against those closest to the Prophet (PBUH).

    • @alfonso286

I thought exactly the same thing. If it were just about succession, we wouldn't be where we are today. I can accept and respect that Ali ra is seen as a legitimate successor, but I will never accept that the closest companions, whom Allah himself praises, are cursed and denigrated by someone. Very hypocritical.

Why do the shia pray differently than the conventional method of sunni. She should have asked these questions. Hate such discussions where things are not transparent or left out deliberately.
