  • This video will run through steps to filter your romsets to avoid having hundreds of versions of the same game. This should save space and also make it much easier to choose your games in the front end.
    I use RomLister in this video, but let me know of other programs like this that you would recommend.

    Thank you for taking the time to post these videos, they been a lot of help decrypting the mystery's of Arcade Emulation. Moreso a comment on your previous video, but I still dont full understand why these roms aren't archived with all their required dependencies, surely a game requiring X files, will always require the same files regardless of the database? seems crazy that every user is essentially going through the same process, producing the same files for the same goal. Or perhaps I've just not yet stumbled upon this resource.

      Thanks for your comment.
      There is an overview of split. merged and unmerged here: ua-cam.com/video/wyonq8TQdYo/v-deo.html
      An example of why you might want split versions (so a romset without all the roms needed to run it) would be that means a full set would be significantly smaller (several GB) than an unmerged set - so if you play a lot of clones, they can just grab the files needed from the parent set rather than storing a copy themselves. Its personal choice of course, and can depend on how you use your roms.
      Technically, once you download a mame set, you may not need to alter it at all, maybe you download an unmerged set, and thats what you want. For me, once I get a set (split or unmerged) I strip out all the clones and lots of game categories to end up with something like ~700 games.
      I only rebuild romsets if I cant find that specific version in the first place, so more common with fbneo and mame2003plus which dont directly use mame version X - anyway the video above explains it better :)

    You asked for other programs to pare down. Well, just today on youtube I watched a video 'trim arcade romsets with launchbox' where he pared down a romset to 2081 games (North America) at 8GB for roms and 6GB for 2D box front and snaps (videos) = 14GB He exported out of LaunchBox, scraped (not using LaunchBox) and then using the Recalbox FE, put it on a microSD for his handheld. I would have scraped using LaunchBox and emumovies but to each his own. It was still a very clever solution.

      Thanks for the comment! I'll check that one out. Thinking about this I may make a video showing how to use 1G1R approach to trim down console games as well.

    Great video, I have finally put time aside to get my retropie/launch box setups going and your videos have been great.
    I have the Sinden lightguns as well and a video talking about their setup would be appreciated. I was using the BB8.1 image and I came across a number of issues with it. I prefer to use the latest retropie image and set it up manually however I have found the instructions provided by Sinden to be rather overly complicated and don't really explain why you are doing something instead just providing steps to follow. The video guides on youtube are very sparse and don't really give you a breakdown of how the Sinden guns intergrate into Retropie either.
    With RomLister the search command at the bottom can be customised. If you wanted to filter out a specific Fighter version you can select/unselect Fighter and then change it to the specific Fighter version you are trying to include/exclude in the command.
    Also I have noticed a static crackling noise randomly happening with your videos. Could be something introduced through your editing software.

    I am at a loss here, I downloaded the 0.223 romset and pulled the DAT file off my pi3 running retropie 4.8 with a build date of 8/11/22. I followed your guide here exactly, step by step 3 times now and 90% of the roms will not play, I get a ton of errors on missing files when performing the scan too. I verified I am using mame2003plus core in retroarch as well too. Try rebuilding a different romset??

    • @Floob
      @Floob  2 роки тому

      Please note this video is to filter a working set, not to rebuild. To rebuild, its this video:
      ua-cam.com/video/wyonq8TQdYo/v-deo.html
      On that one, make sure you have the .dat that relates specifically to the version mame200plus that you are running, but there is a section to cover that anyway.
      Bear in mind to rebuild you will likely need to find the "rollback" romset to find the roms that have changed since 0.223. You cant fully rebuild with just a 'current' romset.

      @@Floob Yes, I followed your rebuilding video and that's what I meant to comment on. My mistake. I downloaded a different romset with rollback and got much better results, so I believe it was just the source romset to begin with.

    • @Floob
      @Floob  2 роки тому

      @@roxsonixx Thats great to hear. Yes, typically for a rebuild you need a new set, say 0.223, then the rollback set for 0.223 - if you rebuild against one then the other it should fill in most gaps.

      It probably doesn’t like the spaces in your path. Either get rid of them or put the path in quotes.

      Absolutely, the process doesn't care which system will be playing the games. It just needs those input files shown.

    There is one I found called Retool but it won't let me post the link. I'm not experienced with this stuff so if it's any good let me know. Also if you know how I can post the link without the comment disappearing let me know that also lol
