What do you think? Should we embrace A.I?

    • @Believe30

      No!!!

    • @lawrencebeck4777

Absolutely not Andrew! The human creativity aspect is compromised and lost once AI is embraced. What the artist offers is his/her own interpretation of the beauty of life. Why would anyone embrace an artificial intelligence technology to do their work for them? It's no longer their work! I'm glad you've taken a hard stance against this as it will only diminish your work. It will no longer be your work... but that of some artificial entity. Who needs that? And how could you derive any satisfaction from allowing some artificial entity to influence your work? How can AI "feel" beauty? That's a human quality that only humanity can experience.
On a different point: it saddens me to see you and other artists bash photography in your interviews, all the while using it to draw from in the studio... not to mention the fact that your painting seems to be moving in a much more photorealistic direction. Why try and imitate photography when you have such a low opinion of it, yet try and do what photography can do better? I was hoping to see your work evolve more in the direction of Sorolla, as you have a talent that I've not seen in any other painter. I've written you personally expressing my admiration for your work, and you've been kind enough to answer me, so I hope you take this as constructive criticism as I have huge admiration for your painting.

AI can be a valuable addition to human creativity, providing new perspectives, techniques and ideas for creating art. Instead of destroying art, AI promotes the evolution of art and the way we experience and create art. that's how I look at it.

Hard no. If it could be done, I'd like to see the entirety of AI burnt to the ground. Humanity needs less technology, not more. We've become silos, gazing at the world through screens and devices. And now with AI "art", is the exercise here to see just how much of the human process can be stripped away? I'm an illustrator, I find the entire thing straight up vile.

We all have become materialistic, and we forgot about our natural beginnings, "nature." I'm glad my youngest daughter still plays in her room and uses her imagination without devices.

I’m in the middle of this and Christopher is talking about losing authenticity to please our audience and that folks can tell when we’re not being authentic. Andrew, you also talked about getting off the hamster wheel. I’ve been there and I think many of us who have an online presence end up there. I do believe that social media re-wires our brains in a bad way. It seems to create FOMO in me pretty easily when I’m scrolling too much. Andrew, I do enjoy your long podcasts and demos because it causes me to sit down and concentrate on what’s being said and shown for a time. I get myself a mug of coffee and plan to listen or watch intently. It’s relaxing. I’ve got to get back go who I was a decade ago. Love what Christopher is saying about getting into nature without being connected.

I create commissions of people's past and present family together, and a great use for AI I've found is image enhancement which has enabled me to use really old photos as reference photos that were previously too blurry to see any detail. I always go back and forth with the client to make sure it still looks like them, as the AI enhancement does have a way of 'deadening' faces. But I definitely think it can have some positive uses. It will never replace real human connection, which I think is what we achieve when creating a piece of artwork with our hands and souls.

mentioning 'reset' and 'everything settling into place' in the same sentence unsettles me:) - part of being human is chaos, spontaneity and synchronicity - we've lost so much of this since the advent of the internet and mobile phones, let alone ai - we used to tap into a 'flow' - you'd go out as a teen without perhaps knowing if your friend would be there - maybe you'd bump into someone else and have a crazy unexpected night...now...well...you know the rest. I feel sad for my kids that they never experienced the world like this. Great chat btw - really enjoying these.

I think the same as photography, AI will never replace real handcrafted art. But it could be another tool in the toolbox if used wisely. I experiment with MidJourney and find it useful to create quick sketches from my own reference photos as the foundation. You can then use these, as one or part of the series of references used in the creation of an artwork. Important that these tools, including photography, are not used as the foundation to teach art. Once a student learns the foundations of drawing, composition, and masters the techniques of painting then one can add these tools without compromising their own creativity. Same for any other tool that uses AI. For example, writing and text-to-voice tools can be also useful for people whose primary language is not English, to enhance their products. Again, without relying entirely on the actual AI application, but just as an additional tool.

Articulate, authentic … you both are so appreciated by sharing your experiences and thoughts! Artists of your caliber should have patrons who support those creative endeavors so your time isn’t wasted on the marketing side. This was the BEST video ever for me!! I can relate. I’ve been painting for 60 years!

As time goes on, it just gets harder to sell real art. People would sooner buy prints and it doesn't matter if it was actually painted by someone or computer generated, now we compete with AI. The powers that be are destroying everything including creativity. You can now take a photograph and with a click of a button, it can be made to look like a painting...

I think you are absolutely correct. We should lean into our humaness. I think the danger of AI in art is the fact that humans will use it in unethical ways. Meaning they will become vampires that will suck the lifeblood out of artists work, reproduce it, steal it and make deep fakes. It needs regulation but I dont see how regulation can happen quick enough to protect artists incomes. Many peoples income will be impacted by AI. Hopefully the love that artists have for just the physical act of painting, finding the ' catch light' from an image, mining out the beauty and enhancing it with the craft of painting is something that will remain a treasure. Its like the synthetic diamond thing. Would you give the live of your life a synthetic diamond ring?? The problem is. . .how do you tell the difference?

  • @susanspeedy5532
    @susanspeedy5532 Рік тому

Another thiught on AI. It will make Universal Basic Income a absolute necessity as so many jobs are going to evaporate. U BI will free humanity from a lot of soulless slavery shootme now jobs. This will give humans a guaranteed income to free them up and do the thing that makes them happy and joyous, like painting, sculpting what ever. This has got to be goid for sales as thebest way to become sensitive to artisticbeauty is by trying to produce it yourself !

Hey Andrew thank you for doing this interview I really got a lot out of this I have connected with Chris and he's really nice person love his work. I am just wondering if you have thought about interviewing Mark Waller, He is a true master of water painting if I have ever saw one. I hear a lot of the idea "next level " on here about painters. Well if you decide to interview Mark, I guarantee you, you will not be disappointed bare in mind I haven't asked him about this. I just think he is a modern day master.

As an artist I hear alot of people mentioning “connections with the story of your art” what if your art literally doesn’t have a story? What if you simply like to create weird surreal and creepy things because it is just what you enjoy? Not all of my pieces have this “deep meaning” and story behind them. Its very rewashed broad answer to the questions related to how to get started with selling your art. There has to be another answer lol

I think it’s a huge subject. I think it’s a marmite subject. You love it or hate it .I personally think it can be used for great things ,but also could soon get out of control on the human input. When people on the cutting edge are frightened of where it could go . You have to be alarmed. And will it mean the end of human labour. And will probably be used in warfare. A machine has no feelings or limits if it self teaches.

Chat GPT puts some really fast bodies of text in front of you, however, this puts you into "edit" mode, and takes the "writing" mode away from you... For me, editing is the part I dislike about the writing process, and if I did not write is to begin with? Yeah, screw that. So writing will not change for me. Using image generator is more like taking an image to start with, or finding some reference, I can take that and use it as a part of, or as a guide to make my own sketch, or to produce a painting from as a sketch. Same but totally different work flow and feel for me.
