It appears you enjoy the "boring videos" that some people may think why? I like to see the tools of your trade and the fact you preserve something that is old but probably works better than some new machines. When living in Indiana we had some oak flooring milled by the Amish and got to see them use machines just like yours but used waterpower to run them - interesting. I really am impressed that some people don't just toss out old things that still work. Thanks for showing the mechanics of the planer, very interesting.
Old line drive shops like that are super interesting to me. Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO actually has an old shop like that running off of a water wheel and they make and sell furniture built in there. Perhaps a better word than boring at that point in the video would have been "uneventful." Up until all the adjustments were needed the video was basically just messing with bolts and moving things. Kinda felt like an oil change 🤣🤣
Pretty impressive machine, Caleb! Looks fantastic! 😃 That's a fantastic upgrade indeed! I would love to find one of those cutting heads here in Brazil, but I've never seen something like that around here. But, well... Who knows about the future. 😊 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! It definitely cuts really nice! Way better than the old knives did. I actually ordered it from China.. doubt I could find anything local either. Stay safe!
It's all cast pieces running on a cast rail with significant down pressure. Any inconsistency among individual links on the belt is made up for by the fact that stock is in contact with several sections of the belt. I haven't noticed any issues with waviness.
Caleb I have a Wadkin planer from the early 1900s and I hope to put a helical head into it to replace the blades which are currently in the machine. Can you please tell me where you purchased your new unit from as I'm struggling to find out who can make or stocks these for my planer. As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.
@@YouCanMakeThisToo thanks Caleb, out of curiosity what's the process. I presume that once I remove the old blade unit I give them the complete breakdown of the dimensions?
Nice walk through on the machine. Can you refer the company on Alibaba that you used? I have a very old Oliver that I have been looking to upgrade, but just like you, I have seen replacement heads over $8K for my machine. Keep up the videos!

Those machines are a treasure today, no doubt about it. It's fantastic to see one running, instead of collecting dust at some exposition.

Great to see a tool with history kept in proper running form. Good on you for putting in the time to keep it in shape. 👍
That was fun. Love learning about old machinery like that
Glad you enjoyed it
Fascinating mechanics from the industrial age. I was awestruck with how they could develop this back in the 1890s.
Right? Crazy to imagine is was all hand drawn, models and forms constructed.. and then cast. All manually.
The beast! Great video.
Thanks!

Glad it was relatively uneventful, Caleb! That planer really is a monster!!!
It's a joy to have!
Nice job! One thing, what rpm is that head spinning ? Usual speed is about 5500rpm, and it seems that you have lower rpm.
3750, same as the Woodmaster I was using before.
How does the conveyor maintain "flatness" ?

@@YouCanMakeThisToo thanks, inetresting machine, now hybrid with top motor and head tech ;)
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
Thanks!

It was a company off of Alibaba.com, I can't find the link to them anymore. There's several on there that'll do custom heads.

Simon, we make custom cutterhead for various planers and jointers. Email the sizes of your cutterhead to sales@sheartak.com.
That's a cool machine. Who is the manufacturer? You just don't see machines like that anymore.

I think it was Strongtech or strength tech, something like that.
I bet that was a kings ransom
It was actually only $1100 plus shipping. Not that that isn't a lot of money... but a lot cheaper than what I expected for what it is.

Wow not bad at all
Wow that’s cheap as hell when you figure the shelix for a 735 is like 500
@@YouCanMakeThisToo wow! That sounds like a steal. I got one for my 15in planer and it was almost that much.
In all honesty, no one cares what you say, just Diresta it
