Hey, I'm the Geordie you met at Blackpool the other day (it was awesome meeting you). Glad to see you enjoyed your visit, I do like where I'm from. In my 25 years living here I think I've seen the swing bridge moving once, it's definitely rare these days. Somewhere on UA-cam there's a documentary showing the machinery that moves the bridge, if you're interested.
First of all, I really enjoyed the video and the information contained therein. As a point of interest, the High Level Bridge was featured in the iconic 1970s gangster movie “Get Carter” when a scene that included Michael Caine was actually filmed on the bridge.
Can't wait to see more of what you think of Newcastle. Also the sage (big slug on gateshead side,, concert hall) is actually pronounced like the seasoning.
Living in Newcastle I'm also a bit loopy about bridges (as I am theme parks and coasters). It's great having these on my doorsteps and there has been some interesting proposals for new bridges over the years across the tyne in Newcastle and even further down towards the coast (Where Shawn was on the Metro). The Tyne Bridge is due some maintenance work soon (long overdue) which will also give it a much-needed lick of paint. Expect it to be covered in scaffold for a few years in the near future.
14:45 , I'm a gateshead local; I've never seen the glass buildings used very much apart from the controls, I think the idea of a gift shop is brilliant
Hey Shawn love your vids keep going i was so happy when u liked my other comments I was jumping up and down my sis was not bothered but I was like dude are u crazy keep going bye 🤩
Lovely to see you in my home town Shawn! Did you know - Newcastle is one of only two cities in the world with 7 bridges - the other one is Gateshead! 😄
Great volg Shawn I've lived in and around Newcastle for over 50 years and only seen the swing bridge open twice. Nice to see the bridge hotel one of my favourite bar's
My home. I love it. You should see it at night when it's all lit up, it's stunning, Shame I didn't bump into you, I'd have took you into the Sage and given you a tour of one of the best music venues in the country, it also has even more spectacular views from there too.
Hi Shawn, I reckon the best pub from which to see the bridges, especially in the evening, is The Free Trade Inn near Ouseburn . Great vid mate. Take care.
Thanks vor sharing. Very informative. I wondered if any visitor can criss-cross the 7 bridges in one visit by car? You did that by walking which is actually fun and lovely. Likewise, I would love to see those two bridges swing and tilt respectively.
Some of the bridges aren't open to cars. The Millennium bridge is pedestrian / cyclist only. The High Level Bridge is bus / pedestrian / cyclist only with the upper deck for trains. The King Edward Bridge is only for trains.
Really cool vlog! I live just 40 minutes or so away from the Quayside in this video! I actually live a ‘stones throw’ away from the River South Tyne which connects to make the river in this video! Did you visit the Discovery Museum? Its a free attraction across 3 floors and is FULL of north east history, and is packed with interactive elements, including a model of the red swing bridge which you can operate! Its just round the corner from the central train station!
When your next up in the North East i would Recommend Durham cathedral and castle and beamish open air museum. I recommend Penshaw Monument in Sunderland. Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough. Hartlepool Maritime experience. Bamburgh castle in Northumberland,Berwick Upon Tweed, Alnwick Castle and Gardens. Chillingham castle. The coastal villages of Amble and Alnmouth and High force in Teesdale.
You nee to visit some of our local places ie Alnwick Garden, Alnwick castle, Cragside, Bamburgh Castle to name but a few. Millennium bridge is nicknamed The Blinking Eye
hi shawn great presentation of my local towns bridges. they usually run the millennium every day but not sure of the times. unfortunately there isnt much river traffic now but they sometimes swing the swing bridge on heritage days. not sure when the next one is though.
Nice video. But I think the first bridge isn't all bad, it has some grace, it is the most minimal. It crosses the river with a single span, a feat of modern engineering. The surface is splotchy and detracts from its appearance.
Shawn, when you come back to Ohio, you need to check out the Air Force Museum at Wright Pat in Dayton, OH. It's free and chalk full of aviation history. If you have time...
Great video, my favourite cycle ride is to Newcastle (from Washington along the old Durham Road) and along to Tynemouth along the river. You mentioned the quayside but at one time it would have been a busy dockside area. Google old photos of Newcastle quayside to see what it was like.
Hi sean i live in Newcastle upon Tyne and have a Brilliant picture of the Olympic rings on the Tyne Bridge if you send me your email I can send you the picture so you can have it as your starter page of the video and i can get some videos of the Millennium eye and the swing bridge moveing
a worked on that metro bridge over the tyne and on the byker viaduct bridge, copy from the byker viaduct, the byker viaduct bridge was the first of the stressed concrete cantilever bridge in the world that shows how much u know, swing and the high level are unique the rest are crap, the tyne bridge is not the same as the sidney bridge the radius is different and different stress calcs the tyne bridge is crap compared to the swing and high level, u know nothing about bridge building
Very informative and really like your upbeat commentary

Really enjoyed this video, I'm from the north east and you've taught me loads about the bridges I didnt know very interesting

@@TheSanbrookeAdventures hii
The Tyne Bridge is stunning
Can't wait to see more of what you think of Newcastle. Also the sage (big slug on gateshead side,, concert hall) is actually pronounced like the seasoning.
Thank you!
And it's now been renamed "The Glass House" since Sage stopped their sponsorship
Fantastic opportunity
Interesting vlog Shawn !! I also have an interest in bridges and seeing this makes me want to visit Newcastle, can’t believe I have never been before

I’d certainly make sense to have it as a gift shop/exhibition about the area!
@@TheSanbrookeAdventures it's a lovely place!. Gutted I missed you!
Love the hat mate, I got the hoodie from Blackpool pleasure Beach, ride was incredible
I have recently moved to Newcastle, you have inspired me to take a walk down by the river!
I’d recommend it!
You should have made it a nice round ten by including the Ouseburn bridges which are equally spectacular!

Great video. I was there in November 2017. A wonderful city, very picturesque. The bridges were impressive.

Great volg Shawn
I've lived in and around Newcastle for over 50 years and only seen the swing bridge open twice.
Nice to see the bridge hotel one of my favourite bar's
Thanks for the info!
Redheugh bridge is allways usually off limits to high sided vehicles whenever its windy due to bridge being quite exposed
Great stuff, welcome back to Tyneside. Some more trivia, the High Level bridge had a staring role in the legendary film Get Carter.
Thanks for the information!
Enjoyed that
Another great AdventureShawn Vlog Shawn 👍🏻
You were looking at the 3rd Redheugh Bridge.
good vid

Even coming away from Newcastle down towards the coast to the likes of Tynemouth it’s quite nice which not a lot of people from other places realise
There looks to be so many wonderful areas to explore around surrounding Newcastle!

Sony AX53!
Great to see you Shawn on Wednesday night on the swing bridge. Hope our directions to Tesco were good!
It was great to see you. Thanks for the directions!
Worked with a Geordie who called it the 'Red-hewf' Bridge.
We were lucky enough to see the millennium bridge open when we went. Hope you went in the Tate modern next to the sage! Very informative vlog.
Thanks for watching Angela, I did indeed!

Love the Video Shawn. If I'm being picky though, you pronounced sage wrong 😂
Yep, say it as you would say "sage and onion" :-)
Very interesting!! only been newcastle once briefly... as being from wales is a long way. i have met princess diana however.

My neck of the woods. More north east vlogs on the way?🙂🙂
There is indeed!
Newcastle is not your neck of the woods mackem
are you ever going to The longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the US

The glass boxes next to the Gateshead bridge has nothing in would be good for a little shop etc !
It would indeed, seems like a waste!
You are awesome buddy
Thank you!
Shaun you missed out scottswood bridge a bit further up
I just wanted to cover the 7 main bridges in this video!

So the first bridge is the British Version of the George Washington Bridge, which carries US 1 and US 9
Forgot the Scotswood bridge
Abit of a take on the sydney habour bridge us the time bridge
They were actually made by the same architect and the Tyne bridge was built first
Yippeeeeeee adventure Shaun is back. What a shame about that graffiti. 🤦🏻♀️
It is indeed

Sage.......as in Onion
