We had one back in 1986-88. Pretty solid machine. The weld that holds the shaker dispersion plate tends to fail. Engine is built for a lifetime of service. Old school quality.
That's a neat machine. We have one ourselves. It works well. I do wish it didn't vibrate so much but that's the nature of sickle bar mowers. I also wish it had a bigger gas tank because it runs out of gas quick and it had reverse. Reverse is really handy. Ours starts on the first pull too except when its warm. Idk why. It probably needs some carb work. The engine has a horizontal shaft as well as a vertical shaft to run the sickle and the drive wheels in case you didn't know. Its a really cool mower. Great review!
I recently bought one of these. Needed work but I got it all back together. Runs good. My question is how do you get that thing to back up? Whats up with that? I'd appreciate any ideas you have. Thanks!
I am a disabled vet and got one kinda like your . But someone had replaced the engine with a 5 hp honda 160gc . the throttle control is only on the engine and when you start it the blade work. The blades stay on all the time. I wish I could have a way to fix it .
ncrdisabled Submarine vet - that's unfortunate sir.. My only suggestion is possible running a brake cable from throttle control to the handle, but it would require many custom parts and homemade pieces.
Matt, I have one I inheirited from my father. Works great, even have spare blades that he had bought. The bushing on the pitman arm is shot. I googled it up and found nylon bushings for Troybilt pitman arms for sickle bar mowers but they seem to be a different style. Do you have any info on where to find the older style pitman arm parts?
I am trying to locate the Cutter Control cable from right handle to cutter assembly. Troy-Bilt part GW-P-406735. It states unavailable. Any crossover part number available? Thank you.
We are manufacturer of sickle bar scythe mower in China. If you buy our machine,we can sell the individual blades. Please contact me by fredxucn@126.com.I can offer you more about it.
@@geraldtakala1721 Yeah, I bought a set of blades on eBay a few years back and replaced 3 of them. Now I have another broken one and can't find the rest of my kit. Figures.
Can you tell me where you might have found a model/seriel number or data plate on your mower? Looks just like mine but I have had no luck finding any info. Thanks
Mark Schlageter I don’t have access to the machine anymore, but I remember there being a nameplate riveted on the side I believe? I had looked up the company and found a replacement blade but it was pretty expensive
***** - I did some digging and couldn't find any information in it... I'll have to take a look at the mower and see if I can figure out exactly what you're talking about. Thanks for watching
sxecrew Thanks for getting back to me. My husband was working with the mower and the blade stopped. What he found out the spring that holds the tension fell off. He has the manual but he says it shows the part but not the location. He sees two "pegs" where the spring possible sits. If I can ask...when you have some free time, can you take a pic of it? That might help. Again, thanks for any assistance...Terry
I got my engine unfroozen and I cleaned carb .Works and runs great. The cutting blade disengages when lever is released but drive wheela are stuck pulling.?

Model/Serial number should be located to the left of the oil drain.
can you provide any information on the engagement spring as far as location of it?
