Dubai or Canada | Does it make sense to migrate to Canada if you are well settled in Dubai?

  • To start with, the comparison is not fair. Comparing a city in a small country in the Middle East with the 2nd largest country in the world, itself is not a fair comparison.
Its a fact that Dubai represents a dream destination for scores of migrant workers across the globe. The charm of all kinds of creature comfort being available at the snap of fingers is itself a huge draw. It also sits geographically pretty in the middle of the absolute West and the Great East.
However, it is not a destination but rather a transit stop as it does not allow for permanent residency of citizenship in most cases.
On the other hand, we have Canada which is now amongst the most desirable migration destination. It boasts of world-class education, free healthcare, and old-age benefits to its permanent residents and citizens.
Both regions are on the opposite ends of extreme weather - a factor that matters in a lot of family debates when making their migration decision.
This video discussion takes the above comparison into a constructive and relatable debate and we will talk to people who have lived in both countries to share their perspectives and experiences with regards to weather, life, job, safety, security and benefits.

Enjoyed the video, ( I am also Egyptian like Hani)
I was raised in UAE and worked in Dubai for 6 years before moving to Canada in 2018. I lived a comfortable life in Dubai working for a large regional company and lived in the outskirts of the Dubai (E611/ Al Khail Road) in an affordable apartment in Dubai Sports City
My problem with UAE and GCC in general is that you can really enjoy your life there while looking under your feet. Once you start thinking about the future and the probability of being laid off for any reason, losing your health insurance benefits, ability to pay rent, auto loan, etc you find that it is a wise decision to AT LEAST give immigration a try! I started by applying for Australian PR (thinking why would I go live in the North Pole 😃 ?) but it never worked out for me and I am glad that I took the steps to apply for PR (so now I don't regret not trying that path). Later I applied for Canada PR and moved to Canada and I am very happy with my decision. There are some things in Canada that money can't buy.....
On the other hand I enjoyed my time in Dubai, I miss the good food (halal America!) and the excellent highways (Canada roads are full of salt 😃)
If you are getting a good salary (AED 30K+ and your company covers housing and schooling for your kids) then stay in Dubai but in the same time apply for immigration. How many people lost their jobs in Dubai during the pandemic and wished they had a PR somewhere in the western world??

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am having comfortable salary in Dubai with family and three kids. However now I am double minded to migrate or stay in Dubai since there is no benefit for unemployment or schools etc in Dubai. How would you suggest me to stay in Dubai or Migrate to Canada is best choice ? In Dubai job is not guaranteed and if you lost job there is no assurance that you will get same salary range.

    You think exactly like me😀
I exactly express the seasons’ bit like you did, and despite doing well in dubai my heart yearns for Canada and this is something one can only feel and not explain! Somehow our PR is just not moving and we are exploring other options to immigrate to Canada! AIPP or investments!!

If you are young and you go to Canada its one of the Greatest country in the world.
More over if you go there without a dream don't go you have to obey the rules, you have to educate your self, the first five years goes fast you have to work hard, and be patient the weather is a challengeThere is no difference between immigrant or citizen you enjoy the same rights, you vote and you are equal to the citizens. You have to be serious and see it as a mission and create love bond between you and your new country.
I am proud Canadian I live in Uae because of the weather
