Very informative. Well done. One tid bit: The MF combine shown @ 2:27 is of a newer vintage than the A series Gleaner. That MF combine has the current architecture with the engine sitting parallel to the rotor, which is driven thru belts, whereas the axial style combines of the Gleaner A series, and contemporary MF axial combines, were driven thru a hydraulic pump/motor system.
I enjoy the many different brands who mfg agricultural machinery. Allis Chalmers was a huge company making equipment for industrial sectors. Much history in this video. Can't wait for next presentation. Be Well BTP
Another great video BTP. Really enjoy your documentation of the history of these companies and their origin. If you ever get a chance, would love to hear about the Deitz Air cooled diesel engines.
Thank you BTP. Now i know what AGCO stands for. Very good information as always. Must be a little wet in parst of the fields corn trash does not stick to dry tires lol.
We had a cleaner g it was a awesome combine and we had a d21 allis Chalmers I can drive that tractor 24 hours a day I love to hear the sound of that tractor
The information you at more or less 10:00 is interesting and it let me wonder where does Deutz Allis future in the history, was that later years, thank you for a great video on the Gleaner Combines
Another great video. I love Gleaner combines. I wish they would have kept making them out of galvanized steel. This model I never have liked. Dident care gor it's round looks. I love how Gleaner still is a square body machine, It just looks better in my opinion. I grew up riding in a N6 when they were released. I loved the sound and riding in that machine.
Great Video BTP! If memory serves me correct on the C62 you could choose between the two unloading auger designs. It would of been nice for AGCO to offer it on the A series.
very informational, thank you for this video. I like how you explain the history of this machines. Most of them you´ll never find here in Germany - as the Gleaner combines. AGCO only sell MF and Fendt combines here. A little question: do you know the brand the of the header at the A86?
Thank you for watching. Allis-Chalmers sold Gleaner combines that were painted orange in England in the 1960’s. I believe that is the only place a Gleaner has ever been sold in Europe. The A86 is running a Challenger corn head.
I know wich you mean, I saw pictures of these - but I didn´t knew that they were sold in the UK. A Challenger header - I could have come up with that too, the color fits. Thx for the info.
Shout out for Andrew Hourigan in New York they have a large Dairy Farm with JD's he works on his equipment takes you through day to day Farming and issues.... they have a new 8700 JD chopper and his daughters run the chopper and work on the farm... Hope BTP don't get mad for me saying this
Off the subject here but what is your opinion on the new 700 John Deere combines compared to the 600 series and also the caseih??...they do better job of harvesting ?..less loss ?..are the quiet ??
Another cool video.. Forgive my ignorance. But what was AC's reasoning for the duel pipes on the turbo-ed tractor? When all the other builders, at least the ones I know of, used a single pipe for turbocharged tractors unless they were V-8's. The link you left for the tractor takes me to 4 John Deere's planting. However, I found the 4W-305 video and see it has twin turbo's which answers my question. Love the old large AC iron.
Thank you for watching. I will check the link. The 4W-305 and 8550 before used an AC engine. My understanding the way the turbos are set in the engine they added two pipes to match them.
bigtractorpower the 4w-305 has 2 heads on it even though it’s a straight 6 engine. So it has to separate exhaust manifolds which leads to the two exhaust stacks.
Yeah Gleaner has the most apt name for a combine as back before spray and big machines people walked the fields picking weeds and pulling diseased plants and they were "Gleaners"
According to gleaner man , gleaner transverse will way out cut a gleaner a series. I talked to a farmer in northeast Iowa that had 90 bushel green stem soybeans on a regular basis, he would travel 5.5 mph with the A86 n, 40 ft. draper, the transverse, s97 that he got to replace the A86, would do 3.5 mph with a 35 ft. head. Maybe the farmer should have done a demo with the S97 before he let the dealer sucker him into getting a transverse when he could have gotten a new Massey 9565. The new Massey"s don't thresh as well as the A series or the transverse , but maybe Gorden cylinder bars would fit the rotor since it was a copy of the rotor put into the Case Ih 7010-8010 and 9010. The Gorden bars make a big difference on Case IH rotors's in cutting down on un threshed grain getting past the short, poorly spaced bars.
I was noticing the Challenger cutter head. Do all AGCO heads interchange with all AGCO combines. Are there any other brands that will match up with an AGCO cutter or draper head.
The AGCO built heads will fit across AGCO combines. I have filmed a few Gleaners running Massey Ferguson Draper heads and Challenger corn heads. As far as another brand like a MacDon or Geringhoff adapter plates are needed.
Gleaner was part of AC from about 1955 to 1985. It became part of Deutz-Allis in 1985 and in 1990 when Deutz-Allis became AGCO the brand name transferred again.
@@bigtractorpower Interesting,my old neighbor bought a brand new one back about 1970-71,he had no real issues with it either,it was a very reliable piece of equipment according what he said about it.
@@4gauge10 gleaners were great conventional combines and probably cut the cleanest with the least yield. The n series had their set backs at the start but got them sorted out out before deutz bought out allis. When deutz took over issues returned when thet tried to change the engines to air cooled and other parts. Alrhough when agco took over they used the cummins in the r series which made them a great combine to operate. Even for today an r 72 gleaner is hell of a combine.
It sound's like the cab door is open? I've rode in other makes of combines & they don't seam as load in the cab! IH & Deere are much more comfortable to be in.
Did Agco buy or require Massey Ferguson back in the day and keep their product line? Like the design internally of components or did they merge the brand name into the company and discontinue MF design.
Massey is part of AGCO. This is a Massey combine and to expand sales it was sold as Massey, Gleaner and Challenger in the United States. It was also sold as a Fendt in Europe and Valtra in South America. .
Well it all depends on region and geography. The farms here in Kentucky have fields as small as 5 acres and as big as 1,000 acres. One farm in town has a 3,000 acre field.
Both good machines and both class 8 combines. The S88 is a generation newer than the A86. An S88 holds 390 bu. Vs. the 350 on the A86. The S88 cab has more tech and features because it is newer.
Camel Tanker the gleaner is different, it is only the A series. It is a Massey Ferguson combine. Agco was trying to make one universal combine. So they designed the A series combine. It is a Massey painted gray and says gleaner. The gleaner rotor runs side to side. Every other combines rotor runs Parallel to the feeder house. My family runs a gleaner and we compared it to the A series and it is basically the opposite of a normal gleaner combine. Thanks.
These machines move like nobody’s business. I’m very impressed.

You're always so very thoughtful making sure that our experience is as immersive as possible ... love ya for it !
Thank you for the comment and watching.
Love the Gleaners. One of the beat paint schemes that I've seen.

a C62 could have both the Massey version (8680) could only have the turret.

People make fun of Gleaner and Agco, but it's funny there is a lot of Agco products out there in the field yearly.
AGCO makes impressive machines.

Gleaner was the only company to offer both natural and unnatural flow rotary combines
They sold the Gleaner S77 in Eastern Europe and China as the Massey Ferguson T7. I have not had chance to film one.

The MF 9540 you show is a 2012 or younger, and is a redesign combine mechanism is different then this a86 the real comparision was a MF 9895
The motor on the 9540 is a 7 cylinders 9.8L, rotor drive is a belt vs hydro, bigger rotor, new cooling package V design, better cab insonorisation
He got duals on that for compaction. Cause it doesn't look like it would need much power for that 12 corn head
Most class 8 combined have duals for traction and to reduce compaction.
Nice !

You have that right. Top notch combine.
Yeah Gleaner has the most apt name for a combine as back before spray and big machines people walked the fields picking weeds and pulling diseased plants and they were "Gleaners"
When you buy a gleaner it’s your for life, we call them a boat anchor lmao
I film all brands of combines. I find the Gleaner produces the cleanest sample and leaves the least amount of grain behind.
Yes it international puts it in the tank instead of behind lol
