I’ve never heard anyone mention this principle, but it makes perfect sense, I’m surprised this isn’t talked about more often
Agree 100%
Makes so much sense
It most definitely needs to be talked about more often. It’s no fun getting fatigued n cramped up when you want to play for a while. I’ve been there.
I was basically thinking the same thing! Great lesson here!
Yea, not sure if this is true, but I’m definitely gonna try it out.
You're a genius Sir. I spent a lot of time trying different tensions before I got it right for me. So I thought I'd check my oedal against your method and sure enough my pedal is exactly the same as you describe here. 👏🏼
Your concept would help you in all other things, you're the type who would go out of your way to experiment and tweak to get something better :)
Thank you so much!! I had a bad car accident 2 years ago and lost my drum set in the process.. came back and was no where near my old level of drumming after huying a new set. I got frustrated! I didnt have my same speed or control!! But now that i saw this it reminded me that being comfortable depends on how you set it up!! Now im flying ❤ thank you so much!!
That's awesome to hear!! So glad you got back into drumming after your accident though. That's true passion really :)
Thank you sir. Now I know how to set my double pedal properly.
CHeers hope it helps!
Thanks, I’m struggling to set it correctly. Good timing
Factory settings are the ticket
This is amazing!!! I've never heard anyone break it down like this!! Thank you!!
Thank you!
Thank you!!! My 5 year old daughter love playing drums, tips like this will help her play longer!!!!
Wow she's blessed to have you as her mom who's so encouraging!!
Amazing method man. Ive never really had a problem with setting mine, but always wondered how people play with how theirs are set. This kinda made it make sense to me now. Good good stuff man
It's just how I like to do it. I'm pretty sure there are many other ways that suit people of all types and styles too!
@ArtOfDrummingHQ yeah theres so many different preferences but id never though to set your leg on a scale to see how heavy your foot naturally sits. That was a million IQ move right there haha
Thank you! I’ve been looking for a good method for finding the sweet spot for spring tension!!👏👏👏
Hope it helps you!
Good advice. George Kollias also stated that he sets his spring tension so that he can rest his foot on the pedal and the beater stays just off the head.
He's a monster at the pedals. Didn't know he does it this way too, thanks for sharing!!!
I love your videos dude. And youre a killer drummer. 🤘
You're super kind 😁 thanks!
This kind of thing is really important to know. I had no idea how to position the beater with the springs and always had bruises on the top of my right foot. Way too loose. Much love MAD RESPECT teacher. Thank you for explaining this ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Glad it helped! Appreciate the kindest of words!
Amazing! I can't wait to try this!
Let's go!!!
I like this concept.
I really needed this. Have been trying to play quick strokes and found the pedal being too loose. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
This solved my problem. My drum head was loose at home and when I went to practice on a friend’s kit, his drum head was super tight. So I couldn’t do fast doubles anymore because the rebound was crazy. Just loosened my spring tension and I should be good! Thank you!!!
Cheers! It can be frustrating playing on multiple different pedals. But it also gives you a much better understanding of different pedals and settings :D
Did I just watch the most useful kick pedal video ever?! Thanks for the tip!
Hope it helps you!
thank you! as a beginner i really need more niche tips like these!
Glad it was helpful!
FINALLY…someone who talks about this!!!! Thank you sir, will be applying this!!!!
Let me know how it goes!
yep! this is perfect
The difference in people's amount of weight they place on the foot is drastic. This will help out many!
Yes that is the most important takeaway here. You got it !!!
I have never thought about that. Nice.
Cheers!
This is one of the best ways to explain how to get the proper tension. I love it. Ty
Cheers! Hope it gives you a fresh perspective to experiment with!!
Thank you definitely makes a lot of sense. And I recently have debated reducing my Spring tension. This is the answer to that question
I feel every pedal can be quite different, but the concept I use is the same. I hope it helps you though!
😮😮 Omg wow best way I've heard it explained 😮😮
Thanks!
Gonna try this! Love the idéa.
Have fun!
Thanks great info.
You helps so much.
Very helpful. Thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Incredible!! Thank you for making this, that makes so much sense.
You're welcome, hope it helps!
Thank you! I had not though of this at all
Hope it helps you with your drumming!
what a great and informative video!
Glad it was helpful!
WOW! Thanks so much for this tip
Happy to help!
Thanks!
Ohhhhhhhh myyyyy lorrdddd, I have been trying to learn drums I got a kit from a friends dad which had been sitting for a few years and the bass drum has been the hardest for me because I have to curb stomp the pedal. This is gonna make it so much easier 😅
Hope this really helps!
Your a legend man
You're too kind 😌
This is one of the most useful UA-cam videos ever! Thank you!
Cheers!
Thank you for this!
My pleasure!
Thanks for that🥁🥁🤟🏽😊
Cheers hope it helps!
I wish i had known this when i used to avidly played drums.....
Always wondered how to properly set that up. Thank you 👏
Happy to help!
Perfect explanation. Love you brotherman!
You're welcome! Cheers!
Mmm This is interesting, I had never thought about it.
To more experimentation!
Omg, ty so much, im a beginner drummer, it's a very useful advise!
Hope it helps!
Very good advice. Very useful
cheers!
This is a fantastic hint, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you 🙏
Welcome!
Most useful video ever!!!! Thanks a lot for this info!
My pleasure!hope it helps!
Great video. Wish there was more of this stuff about pedals!!
Cheers!
I didint know that was a thing thank you
Cheers!
Thanks for the tip man appreciate it I’m new to drumming
Happy to help!
Thank you. We are gonna try this
Experiment and tweak afterwards to your liking :) a little goes a long way in the long term
Nice!!!!!!
Hope it helped!
Thank you for sharing this.
My pleasure!
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Golden information
Thank you
THX for this instructive Video. I have Big & Heavy Legs further complicated by a right Leg shortness of 1". I can onkt play Heel Down, no way can I lift the leg to play in Heel Up /Toe strokes. But adjusting the spring tension does help to improve Kick Drum Play!!
Cheers, glad it helps! Sturdier pedals(unfortunately more expensive) can help you too if your legs are on the heavier side. Feel free to ask any questions in the future as well. I'll be here
Brilliant. Very logical. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Heck yeah I’m gonna try this and I’ve been drumming for 45 years
That's awesome!! Let me know how it goes
@@ArtOfDrummingHQ I did it and it’s SO much better. Thank you!!
Great stuff. 👍 thanks for the clear explanation
Glad it was helpful!
Mahalo! This is excellent information!
Glad it was helpful!
Good example thank you 🙏
My pleasure!
Thankyou very usefull information
Happy to help!
bro wtf, i've always played with almost full travel with the pedal each time. Gotta try this
Hope the experiment goes well!
I literally didn’t even know this event happened 🤣
Now I know why my 10+ year old paddle, rusty and belt driven, doesnt work consistant for me hahaha
I just need a new one and use this method, thank you
Nice bro
You got it!
Bro just gave us a hack 😂❤😊
😂💯
You my good sir just got a subscription from me
Welcome to the channel and thank you!
hmm , also good seating height is important, good job!
Totally agreed 💯
Interesting concept. Sadly I just had knee surgery and I’m unable to test this out.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Smart..
From Meet The Beaters, here's "I Wanna Hold Your Feet"
Very interesting and helpful video! Any tips for drummers that play heel up?
Same, but you can try the test with your heel up where you'd like it :)
Hey man! How do you adjust your spring tensions? Do you put the same tension on both sides or do you adjust depending on your foot ? Incredible content by the way!
It looks like they only weighed one foot in the video. I'd say adjust both to the same tension.
Adjust both using the same method. But this will give you lighter spring tension on the left slave pedal of a double pedal because most slave pedals have more resistance due to the connecting shaft rod. Hence both sides will not be the same tension, if you want to use equal force for both pedals.
Cool concept can’t wait to try this. Also what beaters are those? I need a new set and those look cool. Bought a new set of pedals and the beaters are crap. The rest of the pedals are like new condition
These are ahead switch kick beaters. They are sponsored so I didn't specifically went to get them. Beater weight and length affects momentum, so play around with them and see what works for your style and technique :)
@@ArtOfDrummingHQ cool thanks
For getting back to me.
What if i like to rest my foot on the pedal while pushing the pedal all the way down? Wouldnt the beater always be on the head no matter what the tension is?
Yes, the tension can give you a harder or easier time then. More tension, you press harder = more energy used throughout = Holding you back from your real potential. Unleash the beast
When you say rest your foot on the kick pedal is that relaxed with weight like how it is on the hihat ? This sounds like an awesome tip
Totally relaxed. This method gets you playing with lighter tension than normal and you will need time to adapt especially if you were quite heavy on the tension.
OMG
👍
Where has this information been all these while ?!!!
Haha cheers!
Thank you for this, dude!
When you rest your leg on the pedal, are you also pushing down with your feet, or are your ankles "neutral"?
Neutral. The 2 finger spacing is just a rough idea. The weight support concept is important. Tweak to your pedal and experiment a bit!
@@ArtOfDrummingHQ OK, well, I was just wondering.... When I keep my ankles neutral (no tension at all), I don't see any difference in beater-angle when I loosen or tighten the springs... So I keep my calves contracted while resting my leg on the pedal. There is roughly 1 finger between the beater and the head. Seems to work for me (had to loosen the springs a bit)
💯💯💯
💯🙌
What kind of beaters are you using? They look unique.
They look backwards lol
Best explanation but end of day you could be a quad monster and none of this matters
Probability of being a quad monster is not high. Probability of being able to adjust your pedal settings 100% 😉
Hi you teach drumming
I play toe so my beater is always resting on the drum head if I’m playing.
If that works excellent for you, it rocks💯
That's only part of the equation. What about pedal board height and beater position?
My problem with being able to go fast enough is my legs are too fat 😂
I play heel up exclusively.. there is way more weight on the pedal this way, should i consider the same way to adjust spring tension?
I play heel up exclusively too. Because you are usually more tensed while in constant heel up. it also makes sense for the spring tension to not impede you. But it's also slightly different for everyone. Just ask if you have enough support with this spring tension, or what if you reduce it a little and still get enough support. Or what if you raise it and get more support, how would that feel over a week? You'll eventually find your ideal
Hi there some how I feel comfortable playing like you but when I lift my heel up and push it down to strike the hit is so powerless like the beaters almost don’t bounce out of the head and my beaters are a bit far back than normal and spring tention is a bit high otherwise I wouldn’t even get a decent rebound out of the pedal, I really don’t know how to explain this I’ve spent months trying to tweak the pedal to my preference but Jesus Christ I can’t get it to work
What pedals do you have? Pedals can vary quite a lot from each other ua-cam.com/users/shortsyOH2w_qLHVA?si=MwsHoWLck_ZUKwaU towards the end of the video shows a difference
Me and two other drummers at my church use the same drum kit week to week. Is adjusting the spring tension this often bad for the pedal?
I don't think so, although I'm not a pro, so take this with a grain of salt.
Springs are metal, they are built to be used and abused. Adjusting the tension does not compare to when you're actually using the pedal itself.
Ain't bad, unless it's a really cheap pedal. Don't worry about it :)
Hi, I was wondering what earbuds you use?
I use the KZ AS16. Best bang for buck in-ears in the market.
😲😲🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
🙌💯
What are the pedals you are using in this video?
Pearl demon drive
Why do you change the spring tension here (how fast the beater comes back), instead of just putting the beater further away from the head?
Beater position will change the sound on an acoustic skin. You want a good sized body, fix the beater height to your liking, then adjust the spring.
As well as having the beater height be longer will give you a more powerful punch.
Thanks uncle roger 😊🙏
😉💯
110
My feet are both exactly 21 lbs lol
Wouldn’t it be better to have both tension the same? To develop equal strength/balance in both feet? This will also promote correct posture and avoid hip/back pain. Just a thought - I’m not an expert at all.
dude did you actually think he only talked about the right pedal here? seriously?
Hey there's gonna be a few more parts explaining the different factors, stay tuned!
