The women's business attire with the shoulder pads and limp tie bows on the shirt were far from my favorite but i would do it any day if it meant I lived in that cultural time in America! I can relate to this so hard, except for me it was the mid-90's and on Sundays I'd go to Burger King after church with my mom and I'd get a breakfast sandwich and the Tropicana OJ in the little carton with the hole for the straw (OJ always tasted better out of the carton especially as a kid). Afterwards, I'd hop on the toy set they had set up in the big indoor playroom while Clifford the Big Red Dog TV show was on the little CRT up in the corner....better, simpler times.
It's funny how often a new video drops right when thinking I could go for old commercials. Notice those Slim Fast ads don't give any sort of number for how much weight they'll supposedly help you lose in a week. There's something charming about that 80s cheesiness.
Weird i'll get pissed & throw a fit if UA-cam shoves an ad i can't skip in the middle of a video, but then i'll watch multiple half hour videos of nothing but commercials & stay entertained. Nostalgia goes a long long way.
Man, TV really took care of us back then, it loved us, and nothing was more comforting than being all cuddled up in a warm bed with the TV on. The TV was always right there looking out for me with its wholesome commercials that depicted a bright future. It reminds me of better times when I had friends and family.
That's ok. I think my nephew who's 15 is growing up in the here & now making it the best time. I can give you reasons why the 80's are trash. I grew up in the 80's.
Cheers to a time when you would play in real life with your friends and not online in some video game and that’s how we learned about pain and what to do and not to do riding bikes playing tag and other games outside in the sun. Lol.
It's always interesting and comforting to see the world from this perspective since I was still only a baby. While my parents, who migrated from Haiti, we're busting their butts to keep the family fed. Hearing their stories always makes me appreciate their journey and sacrifices. & The American dream could not have been more alive. So seeing these commercials reminds of all of that.
That's awesome that you recognize and appreciate their journey ❤🩹 Same with me, my parents arrived from different countries in the early 80s, and it still amazes me how they adapted to life here after living disadvantaged lives. Sometimes I play these comps in the background so they can reminisce :)
That Discovery Channel magazine ad at the end .... remember when they actually showed educational programs? Just like TLC, Bravo, and A&E, they've strayed so far from their original content that they might as well change their name to something else.

I was still a kid but I remember going to downtown with my mom and everything was just so big and clean. We would go there just to go shopping and eat. Thanks for the memories. In the St. Louis area we had a local 80's & 90's "commercial celebrity" just pass away. "Becky' the Queen of Carpet" She was always flying on a magic carpet in front of the green screen. Gonna miss those low low discont prices she delivered.
I wonder what people back then that were buying the Miser GE light bulbs that saved a measly 5 watts would say in a few years when compact fluorescent came out and only used 13 watts and now when you can get a 60 watt LED equivalent bulb that only uses 9 watts.
