    Fun fact, tomato horn worms are super hard to spot because the match the color of the leaves. But at night, if you use a black light flashlight, they glow a beautiful bright blue which can easily be spotted.

      If the wasps have embedded their eggs in/on them, the hornwoms are VERY EASY TO SEE because they look like fat green worms with rows of white tubular projections on their back. Yuck!

    I have never heard that daddy long legs are the most venomous spider. That is ridiculous! I have a ton of daddy long legs but that is probably because I have a lot of ants. Ants grow aphids for their sap. This year I found 4 red lady bugs in my garden. It made me so happy

    I am raising cherokee purple, cherry, better boy, and beefsteak this year in northern KY. Here is a tip if anyone wants to propagate tomatoes and save some money. We break off the suckers and put them in water to root. After a couple weeks they're ready to plant out.

    Stuck in an apartment. No garden. Just a few herbs. In the past I've grown blackeye, snow, pigeon, and sugar snap peas, black and Lima beans, mostly grape variety tomatoes, pumpkin, watermelon, nopal, and papaya. If I had a yard, I'd be focused on gathering good organic material for compost here in Zone 11b.

    This is off topic but people need to know. The reason for the shut down of water to the farmers in Idaho is so they can use the water for the cobalt minds in Idaho. They are suppose to start drilling for cobalt the 24th of this month. Why do they want cobalt you ask, it is for the batteries used in cars. Now what is more important to us, farmers or cars? We all need to make calls and put a stop to this nonsense.

    QUESTION...about 2 years ago, I put compost on my garden. Unbeknownst to me it was not done breaking down. I did let it set over the winter because I got started too late. Last spring, I planted tomatoes. They lasted about 2 days before they died. My neighbors daughter is into agriculture told me the nitrogen and it killed the plants. This year, I planted tomatoes again but even now, they are only about a foot tall and are starting to fruit. How can I get the nitrogen down for tomatoes????

    • @Anamericanhomestead
      @Anamericanhomestead  20 днів тому +3

      I highly doubt that the nitrogen levels from that 2 year old compost are effecting your plants. I suspect its something else. I would try picking up a bottle of fish fertilizer to mix with your watering and watering your toms in with that and see if the growth doesn't pick up. Its also possible that you have some GRAZON mixed in with that fertilizer and it can take 3 years for that to go away. ALWAYS be sure to ask if the fertilizer came from animals that are fed hay that was treated with GRAZON. Around here that is not a problem. But in other places, Grazon is used by farmers growing hay.

  • @cs7717
    @cs7717 20 днів тому +1

    Please don't tell people in the hot desert not to water every day. Unless you live in 9% humidity and 120° F, you have no concept of how plants are thirsty and desperately need water. You can kill your tomato plant in one day if you do not water it in our heat. In Vegas, there is a well-known tomato expert who waters her tomatoes five times a day for a few minutes each time, otherwise, they die and or fail to produce any fruits. There are real challenges to growing in the desert that someone living in 15% humidity and a cool spell of 100° will never understand.
