Lol, the thought did cross my mind "I hope this isn't super bad." But at the same time, "but really, what's the worst that could happen?" Well, now we know haha.
I could feel the panic there! Goes to show how strong that connection is though, and how well engineered the mechanical hardware is. Nice job Microsoft. Mine should be turning up in a week.
thanks for the info. I am the owner of a SB2. didnt know there is an emergency manual release. But love my SB2 which i bought september last year with a roughly USD5xx discount + free pen + a total of 4 yrs warranty (1 yr from microsoft + 3 years from a local malaysia retailer).
Ikr, I felt an odd kind of pain watching him try to pry the tablet and base apart with sheer force. I know the attachment is really solid, so I was worrying he'd shear the latching mechanism doing that
I'm not sure why you didn't look it up online before manually prying it like that. There is a way to manually detach the tablet by engaging the mechanism with a paperclip inserted through the sides of the machine.
My heart sank so far when it first wouldn't come off. I thought I'd have to send it in to Microsoft and say, "hey, sorry I was an idiot, can you fix this?" Lol
I wish they had just made it modular, it would be great if I could put my surfacebook 1 on a 3 base for more gpu power, or use the surfacebook 1 base with a 3 tablet if you want to save weight and money if you dont need the gpu but the tablet functionality and cpu power is important to you.
Good to see your video as a warning, I actually was able to test the Performance Base with my original Surface Book i7 because my uncle got the newer one and both were compatible.... I wanted to add that if you ever find in a situation where the muscle wire doesn't want to function properly, there are release buttons on each side (one for each wire) at one of the vent holes. You need to insert a straighten paper clip on the sixth visible hole diagonally upwards and feel your way around until you can push a button for release. Then you have to try and keep that side separated while you do the same on the other side. Definitely not something for your average Joe, but you definitely should NOT try to force them out like in this video.
I have a Surface Book 2 15". Before that I had the original Book, and wondered the same thing as you when the 2 came out, but I guessed there might be some sneaky shenanigans to prevent mixing and matching.
The thing about Magnets is that they only have TWO polarities for how long will utilize the repulsion mechanism with other future surface books or even with the Surface Book 1... 🤔
Well positive thing is that most people won’t have both models. They won’t have luxury to experiment lol Great share and it showed me awesome durability. I would consider buying it now
No, but it would have been nice if you could just upgrade the base after many years or just replace the screen part if it is broken and not have to buy a whole device again.
My first thought was you already knew how to get it apart. You just needed to go get your backpack. Jokes aside, I'm surprised they didn't make them keyed in such a way that it would not work.
yeah... if i knew you were going to try that I would have told you not to do it. Daniel from Windows Central made the same mistake. You should have used a pin to disconnect it. In one of the holes of the fan vents makes the top pop up.
Because it would have made the other video longer than 30 minutes and I figured most people wouldn't bother trying it once they knew that it wouldn't work anyway. Plus, I pinned a comment to the other video for people that wanted to see it :)
The muscle wire from the tablet grabbed onto the metal nubs and wouldn't let go. But since the electrical connections weren't made, the tablet didn't acknowledge that the muscle wire engaged. That's my assumption at least.
this video is totally wrong!!... there is an auxiliary bottom around the base which allow you to detach the muscle connector. so do not do this stuff with the tool, it can end very bad...
thanks buddy. me and my bestfriend same problem. i have the surface book 2 and he has the new version in 3. just for fun he's changing the tablet on my keyboard. god! thanks so much for your primitive help. hahaahhaha
Microsoft lost a big chance! i have the surfacebook2 and i bought it for future graphic and battery upgrade instead change laptop after every 3/5 years. Stupid Microsoft u have a big business opportunity and not use it!

You should try the manual ejection next time (if there is one) which involves using a paperlicip in a certain part of the vents.
When you said... The magnets are different... I was noooo don't try it....
Lol, the thought did cross my mind "I hope this isn't super bad." But at the same time, "but really, what's the worst that could happen?" Well, now we know haha.
@@TechisodeTV you've also given us a science lesson in how magnets work 😅
My surface book 3 is dead slow and touch is not working. Any solutions?
I could feel the panic there! Goes to show how strong that connection is though, and how well engineered the mechanical hardware is. Nice job Microsoft. Mine should be turning up in a week.
Seriously, I was literally pulling with all my strength and not the slightest bit of damage. I'm very impressed with how strong the hinge is.
@@TechisodeTV and your luck that day.
same here
You didnt try the emergency release lever inside the vent hols on the bottom right? all you needed was a bobby pin not a swiss army knife.

Thanks man.
I’m sorry, I laughed so hard when you got that stuck on there. It was seriously entertaining man, thanks for posting this 👍🏻🤣🤣🤣
You don't sound sorry...
Hahaha, I'm glad you found it entertaining. :)
@@TechisodeTV It's one of those situations where it's hilarious for everyone but the victim 🤣
I was so scared for you dude!!

Have you try to turn it off and turn it on again?
The thing about Magnets is that they only have TWO polarities for how long will utilize the repulsion mechanism with other future surface books or even with the Surface Book 1... 🤔
That laptop is far too expensive to try such an experiment!
😅 😅 😂
Well positive thing is that most people won’t have both models. They won’t have luxury to experiment lol

Haha very true. And yeah, the durability of this laptop is beyond incredible 👍

you should have tried the manual pin button inside the vents on the side
Thanks for the video. This is important to know. Experience is a teacher! Have mercy!
My stomach just turned inside out watching you suffer through this. What a horrible experience!
Haha, yeah, it wasn't fun. I'm just glad it all worked out :)
My first thought was you already knew how to get it apart. You just needed to go get your backpack. Jokes aside, I'm surprised they didn't make them keyed in such a way that it would not work.
Lol, the thought did actually cross my mind 😂
i was planning on trying this very same-thing, thanks for saving me bro
As a fellow Surface Book owner, it was physically painful to watch this dude trying to force detach the thing.
Hi my friend, could you tell me if can I use the surface book 3 charger (127W) on the surface book 2 (102W)... are compatible?
I actually just uploaded a video talking about this :)
ua-cam.com/video/gd5wtKSm7NA/v-deo.html
Next time you can try using a paperclip and on the sixth hole try to insert the straight paperclip to try to unlatch the screen
yeah... if i knew you were going to try that I would have told you not to do it. Daniel from Windows Central made the same mistake. You should have used a pin to disconnect it. In one of the holes of the fan vents makes the top pop up.
Oh, wow. Didn't know that feature was there. Thanks!
Thank you for letting us know, but why you not tell or explained on the first video? (the unboxing), to prevent somebody to try.
Because it would have made the other video longer than 30 minutes and I figured most people wouldn't bother trying it once they knew that it wouldn't work anyway. Plus, I pinned a comment to the other video for people that wanted to see it :)
I bet at this point you already know but there are dedicated holes at each side of the tablet portion close to the bottom meant for manual detaching.
Was legit nervous for you.
Btw do you know if you plugged surface book 3 charger to book 2. Does that work? I mean 127w
I actually just uploaded a video talking about this :)

How does it lock, or are the magnets just that strong?
The muscle wire from the tablet grabbed onto the metal nubs and wouldn't let go. But since the electrical connections weren't made, the tablet didn't acknowledge that the muscle wire engaged. That's my assumption at least.
You can open the clamps with a few paperclips
For some reason I felt as if that just happened to me
You have to manually undock it. You will break it if you use force. Use something tiny and long to undock it from the side of tablet.
Magnets: Don't do it bro, don't do....he did it.
would na manual eject work without forcing it? using the small hole on each side?
Must have felt like a right tool
If you would have pushed a paper clip in to the 6th hole on the sides of the screen it would have released the clips.
But its actually pretty genius that they switched the polarities to prevent that from happening (at least for most cases lol)
Mine's coming tomorrow and I clicked this video with great trepidation, never owned a SB2 though so this shouldn't be a problem lol
Haha, yep, you should be all set :)
There is a manual unlock...
Thanks for that infor man dang my heart almost stopped
How annoying you can't. Especially when Surface Pro and Go can do this for years.
I thought I was watching an ElectroBOOM video 😂
So in other words only do this on the Second Tuesday of any week. Ok, got it.
Repeat that with the SB4+SB2-the magnets will fit than 😅
Hahaha, I was actually wondering what Microsoft would do for the SB4 magnets 😅
Oops! turns out cody was right in his review on msft the Surface Book 3
Imagine if there was a way to do this tho... seeing how microsoft is with windows tho this should be expected with their products.
there was no reason for Microsoft to limit people like this.
it was hard to watch, but he did that i really wanted to test, but scared
The anxiety I felt
wasn't the best thing to do put a gen 2 tablet on a gen 3 base
Microsoft should have run these torture tests for you.
How many times can we say "That's what she said!" during this video? :)
Who will put surface book 2 into 3 base, thanks man.
In that moment he knew he f**** up😂
you are too smart to know there is a hole on the side of the screen you put a needle there and the screen pops out
i weas contemplating buying a book 3 base for my book 2. im glad i didnt now!
brilliant video and it's really funny
Those are locked you are gonna break it
this video is totally wrong!!... there is an auxiliary bottom around the base which allow you to detach the muscle connector. so do not do this stuff with the tool, it can end very bad...
Thanks man, you save my money!!
This video was a emotional rollercoaster 🥵
thanks buddy. me and my bestfriend same problem.
i have the surface book 2 and he has the new version in 3.
just for fun he's changing the tablet on my keyboard.
god! thanks so much for your primitive help. hahaahhaha
This video was painful to watch. There is another one the guy inserts stuff on the ventilation holes to release the mwchanism.
You went on the brutish mode and the thing did not even get a bent/dent. Go figure the construction quality.

if you use Magnet , will be ok
