Hey Frantic, if you don't like the cab overhang, change the loco from a 2-6-0 to 0-6-2. In other words, if you move the unpowered wheels under the cab. My favorite loco is going to be the Norfolk and Western #611 Class-J.
My favorite engine? A mix between the PRR T1, the SP Daylight, BR52, and BR-01. Cool und utilitarian. I haven't gone into designing it yet, but I'm calling it the 6-8-4 Outlaw. The name goes with my ship naming convention, where Destroyers are named for famous naval personel, light cruisers after oceans, heavy cruisers after naval battles, battleships after various stellar objects, and carriers after natural disasters. It dont float, so it's an Outlaw. First engine in the class is called Arthur Morgan. In all seriousness though, my favorite engine is theSouthern Pacific (SP) GS-4 Daylight locomotive. Because she was built locally..only 15 minutes up the road from me infact.
IDEA: how about a steam locomotive based on the titan-size soviet steam locomotive class AA20? it's wheel arrangement was 4-14-4, an absolute chonker steam locomotive for it's time, although not as chonky as the challenger and big boy of the united states.
I think its 2-6-0T 2, two leading wheels, six drive wheels, and zero following wheels and the T stands for tank engine. Also it would be cool to use golden pipes on the outside as a decoration
You should attempt to build the UP 844 steam locomotive it's a 4-8-4 wheel setup. In other words 4 Guide wheels, 8 Drive Wheels, And 4 Following Wheels. The tender you will have to search and see how it looks. Excellent job on building this by the way!
My fave locomotive is either the big boy or the Erie 2-8-8-8-2 triplex locomotive, which is like a big boy but rarer less well known and so much beefier with 3 sets of drive wheels instead of the big boys 2 sets
well my favorite steam locomotive is hard to find. i love so many designs so let me narrow it down a bit. *clears throat* i like the kind that uses fire, and uses pistons to move 🙃i would tell you but my one comment would literally fill a Terabyte of information on this topic lol. love the new locomotive frantic and look forward to more!
The 2-6-0 type was known as a “Mogul”, at least here in the States. My favorite steam locomotive has gotta be the New York Central S1-b “Niagara” 4-8-4.
Fun fact: the locomotive Thomas the tank engine is based on was in essence a testbed intended to prove that steam could accelerate as quickly as electric and diesel locomotives, as a result it's small size utilised oversize wheels more like a larger locomotive, while it prooved it could do the task the lack of tender made it impractical for subways and longer distance travel in general, while the larger wheels were going for many turns in shunting yards locomotives it's size typically worked.
my favorites the southern pacific ac9, its the only partially streamlined articulated locomotive with a 2-8-8-4 wheel configuration, sadly none survived the change to diesel
Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 Big Boy. Yes, That is the actual name. It has two sets of articulated drive wheels, designed for super-heavy freight duty, mainly coal hauling.
Personally I prefer the PRR T1. Theoretically could have beat the Malard’s record, but was such a pain to maintain and operate that it was never tested before they were all scrapped
The a4 Mallard is actually the exact name of the locomotive, my favourite a4 is Sir Nigel Greasley. My all time favourite engine has to be a 3f Jinty or a Caledonian railway 812 otherwise known as Donald and Douglas from T&F
You’ll want to monitor the condenser temp. If its too high it won’t condense efficiently and you’ll need a 2nd condenser. 190 temp is what you’ll want for the firebox and the boiler will want to be ~120 or likely even less. You can use a lever or keypad to adjust these on the fly. Obviously higher is better for quicker startup, I use a logic gate to switch to the lower value once there is pressure.
@@GimbleOnDew they condense steam into water that can be turned back into steam. Recycling it instead of relying on a large tank of water. Although you make a good point, unless Frantic is traveling to the Arctic the space requirement and overall headache of condensers vs a large water tank may not be worth it.
I don’t have one favorite locomotive I have a lot but I’ll list 5 I hope it’s ok 1.The flying Scotsman, 2.The UP Big Boy, 3.the classic E2, 4.the 20 century limited, 5.the 0-4-0 saddle tank that’s 5 of my favorite locomotives.
My favorite train is a Union Pacific big boy locomotive and a Norfolk and western class A steam locomotive Also imagine frantic puts that on workshop for people
Not sure how it is in the game, but generally for real steam locomotives, smaller wheels are better for power and traction, larger wheels are better for speed :)
Those little Pusher things that you added they're called buffers it would help the train stop it basically and help the train shunt cargo and stuff but there would be like a spring in there in real life there would be
Favorite locomotives:BigBoy 4014 mallet E2 tank engine My Locomotive that i made out of lego A 4-0-4 (the 4 is the main wheel) 884 which i call Grey union
hello frantic i think you should build an american steam locomotive next in stormworks because you dont need to hide all the pipes in the locomotive or blend them in since most american locomotives have exposed pipes and that will make it easier to make and not mess up. and my favourite locomotive is the Newyork Central Niagara locootive.
you really need to go stand next toa steam engine... they are huge, even little 2-6-0T and my favourite Loco is the Black Prince 9F, I'd also space out the drive wheels a block or two
It would be UP 4014( Union Pacific Bog Boy) The big boy or 4013 is a 4 - 8 - 8 - 4 wheel configuration and is the largest steam locomotives in the U.S.A.
hey frantic i made this train called mickey and minnie's runaway railway train used a 0-4-2 design instead of an 0-4-4 design because the 0-4-2 makes more sense check it out on the workshop
Something I do not enjoy about these new train wheels is how it forces me to put the steam train wheels close together, but some locomotives in real life have the wheels farther apart.
The extra pressure needs to get out of the system that is why the train and also the ww1 warship explodes idk if you did something in the ww1 warship to let the pressure out but that's basically what happens. The way you did it slowed down the rising pressure for 1 second at the moment the valve opens to cool the heat into water
I can't believe the devs just forgot to add the rps connections onto the large steam train wheels like how do you completely overlook something so important?
well when your designing a whole new category of parts for days and nights on end it can be tiring and frustrating to find EVERYTHING in one shot lol. i know it seems like such a simple thing to miss, but then again neither one of us have ever modeled something like that.
@@railmastergaming yeah I know and it is clear that they made it quick due to the embarrassment they probably had after the last steam piston update and I know that game has its problems(I've had several instances where I would spawn in and my game would crash unprovoked but I go back in and it's fine) I've been playing on off literally since beta and I've seen its highs and lows. and I know stormworks is a very special game and has some major goals and I am very passionate about what the devs are up to and I only want what's best for the game

I thought the same thing. Good idea 👍. I like narrow Guage steam locomotives. I also really like the jnr d51 (Hiro from Thomas)
It would be an 2-6-0T (pronounced "Two, six, oh, tea") the T stands for "tank" short for tank engine
Isnt it a 2-6-0T?
@@willsen8908 yea
You are right but also W is
@@Dafoodybois2828 When I wrote the comment I hadn’t watched the whole video so it was an 0-6-0 at the time, I‘ll edit it now.

the union pacific big boy 4014 is my personal favorite since it holds the world record for the biggest locomotive built and still in use.
cute little 2-6-0 train ya got there frantic :) My favourite steam engine has got to be the Union Pacific 'Big Boy' #4014 4-8-8-4 locomotive

BTW thanks for telling how the reversing part works.
My fav loco is the stephensons rocket, its a super early locomotive
My fave locomotive is either the big boy or the Erie 2-8-8-8-2 triplex locomotive, which is like a big boy but rarer less well known and so much beefier with 3 sets of drive wheels instead of the big boys 2 sets
Except it had no traction because the last set of drive wheels was under the hopper, and it required too much steam.
:( why you gotta ruin my dreams of defying physics
