And thus, the 2009 Major League Baseball season has officially reached its conclusion, with the Yankees securing its 27th championship and first since 2000. Big thank you, SW561, for providing us with the highlights of this memorable season. See you all in 2010!
Even though I haven't commented a lot on the last five years (minus the 2006 regular season), thanks SW561 for covering just about the whole first decade of the 2000s. For the Yankees, it would be 15 years before they would get back to the World Series--which they lost to the Dodgers. The Phillies would not reach the WS the next two years despite acquiring Roy Halladay. Then, they went 10 years without making the playoffs. When the Phils did get in the mix in 2002 as a #6 seed, PHI rode it all the way to the NL flag before succumbing in the WS.
He only needed two to win Game 3, and to your point Boston didn’t have the pitching beyond Pedro to make a series of it. The Sox had their chances in games one and two but no one was beating New York in ‘99.
Game 4 capped off a notable Sunday for FOX: Eagles/Giants, Brett Favre’s much anticipated return to Lambeau, and the last time to date Sunday Night Football avoided going H2H with a World Series
I felt like I was on cloud 9 as a Yankee fan after Game 6. I had my chest out and proudly strolled through the hallways of my school knowing my favorite sports team on the planet was the best at their sport. There’s really no better feeling than that. I wish I had experienced it again this year, obviously that didn’t happen. I hope I get to experience that feeling again sooner rather than later.
As of the end of the 2024 season, only four teams have won the World Series on the first season of their new stadium: - 1912 RSOX (Fenway Park) - 1923 Yankees (Yankee Stadium 1) - 2006 Cardinals (Busch Stadium 3) - 2009 Yankees (Yankee Stadium 3) Yankees also made the World Series in 1976, but lost it. The 1976 season was the first season of remodeled Yankee Stadium (AKA Yankee Stadium 2) So the Yankees have done it twice, almost 3 times, that is if you consider Yankee Stadium 2 to be a “new” stadium. Cleveland had a chance in 1994 with their new stadium first season, but the strike

If this WS had gone 7 games, then it would have fit perfectly with the timeline of when Mark Walhberg had that encounter with Derek Jeter in the movie "The Other Guys" In the 2010 movie, Jeter and Walhberg had the encounter with each other before game 7 of the World Series in Yankee Stadium The Other Guys came out in 2010
2009 was the last season for both Damon and Matsui as Yankee players, as next season 2010, Damon will play with the Tigers while Matsui will play with the Angels.
Both Yankees and Phillies have not made it to the World Series in 2010s Decade. Last World Series Appearance for the Phillies until 2022. Last World Series Appearance for the Yankees until 2024.
Phillies in the offseason will acquire Roy Halladay in a trade, so now the Phillies have a trio of Hamels, Halladay, and Cliff Lee. But then the Phillies for some reason then traded Cliff Lee to the Mariners in the offseason. Lee will return to the Phillies for the 2011 season
Cliff Lee had a weird career. Drafted by the Expos, was part of the infamous Bartolo trade that landed the Indians Lee himself, Grady Sizemore, and Brandon Phillips. Then he was on the Indians for many years, but left off the 2007 postseason roster (the only time they made the playoffs in his time there). Then traded to the Phils, wins both starts in the WS, although that would be the only 2 games the Phillies won that series. Then traded to Seattle in the off-season because the Phillies acquired Roy Halladay. Then traded to the Rangers at the deadline, and loses both starts in the WS. Then signs with Phillies, and was good, but got unlucky, and injuries ultimately ended his career.
The game 4 steal attempt by Damon was a classic NO NO NO…… GO GO GO moment
And thus, the 2009 Major League Baseball season has officially reached its conclusion, with the Yankees securing its 27th championship and first since 2000.
Big thank you, SW561, for providing us with the highlights of this memorable season.
See you all in 2010!
Alex Rodriguez: finally a champion
Game 3 saw history made: the first World Series under review
And the first regular season review happened with AROD as a hitter as well, back in 2008 I think.

I saw some of your comments on some older videos--are you from the Bay Area?
@@EvanEscher Yep. I live in San Jose.
@@cdelano81 oh cool, I'm from San Jose as well. I don't live there anymore, but I spent the first 24 years of my life (excluding college) there.
Burnett and Teixeira, the two big hot stove free agents, came up big when they had to in game 2
In a way it seemed almost fitting Pedro’s final career games were in the Bronx
And he could never beat the Yankees in a big game.
@@Surfer041He did game 3 of the ‘99 LCS
@manofdef yeah with like 10 runs of support, and they still lost the series

Yankees had Pedro's number!

Better days when SNF let the World Series take center stage.

Same here, Judge needs to help his case especially.

I had a great time watching this World Series! That was awesome!

I feel like AROD and Damon had bigger clutch moments in this WS than Matsui did
But Matsui's numbers were something else and he had that game 6
A rematch of the 1950 World Series
The Yankees won the World Series on 11/4, going 11-4 in the playoffs, getting their 114th win of the season.
_In the end, the Yankees were indeed Pedro’s daddy._
It all comes full circle
To think that would be Pedro's final game as well.
