Completely recommend this book and I'm not a person that loves to read but this book caught my attention right away. James Garfield should never be forgotten
I really enjoyed this video. I've often wondered why hasn't much been written on President Garfield and President McKinley. I want to get this book soon. Thank you, John
Wonderful book, learned more about Garfield, Bell and Arthur than I would have imagined. What our country would have been like had Garfield been President for 1 or 2 terms...
Just finished listening to audiobook of this title. Highly recommend it. I learned so many behind the scene facts in this book about Garfield and those involved in the aftermath of his assassination.
Great book and I echo the previous posters in saying that it provides a lot of interesting facts about James Garfield, Alexander Graham Bell, Charles Guiteau, and other major figures who are sometimes lost in the shuffle of the Gilded Age. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
@escargotitbro It's too bad he died as result of medical malpractice. I think Charles Guiteau had a point when he said that at his murder trial. While he shot Garfield, in my opinion, that quack Doctor Willard Bliss was just as guilty as Guiteau, if not more, due to his arrogance AND incompetence! In fact, Bliss should've been sued and had his license revoked. It would've served him right, too! I wouldn't have trusted him to treat a scratch much less a gunshot wound without expecting him to bungle it up!
The Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor, OH (near Cleveland) is excellent: Informative, inspiring, and historical. I highly recommend visiting it.

I need to get her book for my Mom. We are (were) related to Garfield.
Destiny of the Republic is one of the finest books of presidential history I've encountered. Garfield is the best man to ever serve as President.
Perfect last sentence--you're right!

Happy 189th birthday
I get a Kennedy vibe from Garfield, in a good way
