Honestly I need a solo version of this from the girl in the purple dress. Her voice is soooo rich and beautiful. (The others are great too but. A song like this truly just needs that sort of depth you feel me)
I know I'm 3 years late to the comment, but look up "Eabha McMahon" for her work - she's incredible. (Her "How Can I Keep From Singing" rendition will leave you in a trance)

@@getorganizednotpianoized239 I like that it sounds more melancholic because of that :) I've always found the previous version to be VERY joyful for a parting song lol.
I agree. I saw these four in Portland several years back and they were amazing. What sets them apart is having a contralto. Now, if they would only bring back Hayley they owuld be perfection..

Of course, this is a traditional song, and they left out everything after the second verse. "If I had money enough to spend And leisure time to sit awhile, There is a fair maid in this town Who sorely has my heart beguiled. Her rosy cheeks and ruby lips, I own she has my heart in thrall, So gently rise and softly call, Good night, and joy be to you all! Oh, may you drink and not be drunk And may you fight and not be slain A man may court a pretty girl And perhaps be welcomed back again But since it has so ought to be By a time to rise and a time to fall Come fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be with you all!"
I love their great voices and harmonies ... I listen this song still in 2024 and this song will be evergreen with Celtic Woman...Greetings from Serbia 🙂
I'm English, 1/4 Polish ( my Gran) and my mum's uncle was Scottish. but don't have any Irish relatives, however I've always felt like somewhere down my family tree I do, just a feeling I've always had, hoping to get there one day too.
I like *the previous recording* of this song better because it's faster. Some songs sound better in moderato than in adagio. I am very picky. The one from 2012 is not quite as slow as this one.
@@getorganizednotpianoized239 It's great that you have an opinion, but do you have to tell everyone in the comment section that it's too slow? Seriously, dude. Nothing to it if you know what you're doing, and they do. I've performed in front of hundreds with a Grammy winner. There are no nerves so long as you know your shit. That being said, Celtic Woman absolutely is beautiful to see live. The recordings are not lies. They sound absolutely incredible in concert. This particular performance is great, as are most of them. They are charming, tell little stories about some songs, and I still say whomever the violinist is at the time doesn't get enough credit for floating around stage playing so well. Regardless of that, the singers have incredible harmony, each can sing amazingly as an individual, and none tries to overpower the other. Live is only different than what you find on UA-cam in that it's just that much more powerful.

Delicious version beautifully presented and such lovely girls to add to the mix then when the pipes come in the sound is complete excellent version of a great song
I'm so glad they put this up again. This version of this song has kinda affected every aspect of my music performances and instructions since I came across it the first time and the thousand times after. I know, weird. Getting a little choked up over here...
By far, this is the best version of The Parting Glass ever made. Great job my Celtic Ladies! Yeah, and to all the thumbs down, may your arses be parted by shards of glass!
This song is over 200 years old?! The sound quality is so good!

Exquisite voices, better than a lot of mainstream pop singers.
Bigly better.

This is one of the finest musical performances I have seen and heard on UA-cam.
Then you haven't heard one maiud by Karliene? This is crap!
Yet another incredible number by this most gifted group of angelic musicians.

And all the harm that e,er I did
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall

and gather as the evening falls
And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Fill to me the parting glass
And gather as the evening falls
And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all

But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
So fill to me the parting glass

And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
