Dude, this guy is gonna go viral. I knew you had something special when we exchanged texts about it. Great educational animal.
Thanks buddy! He’s pretty awesome.
Still waiting on that "viral" thing 🤣🤣
I’ve been seeing a trend in snapping turtles as pets 0.0 I just found a hatchling too!
He is so friendly! I love him!
back when i was a child on a local market they use to sell that kind of turtle, i didnt know what it was and if it was dangerous. tbh i like it how this one its so frendly
I know, right?! Snappy is so friendly. He’s very unique!
I love watching any reptile being allowed to make choices and do what they want
I LOVE SNAPPY!!🥰 (note: Common Snapping are the most underestimated reptile species, in my humble opinion… they are very intelligent animals, & learn & remember their owners & surroundings! Many also enjoy interacting & like the attention!!😊😊💚) •••GREAT video, & very informative, to even experienced keepers!!•••
Thank you for watching and for your support!
They also understand words...and they do recognize their owners
Snappy & Gizmo should hang out
Incredible turtle, my snapper is like a puppy they are such an amazing species.
That turtle shell ring is awesome
Love to see where you house the turtles. Especially the bigger ones like snappy. Snappy seems to love a walk in the yard!! Thanks for the education. Love love love to see this in Indiana!!
Thank you! Yes, I’m going to be doing a video in the near future showing all of the aquatic enclosures as well. I haven’t had time yet, as there is so much to do prepping for winter. Stay tuned!
I love it when turtles do their classic: stand still, stretch out their neck, check surroundings and slowly do a 180 and go the other direction. I've only had a Red Eared Slider, but I'd kill to raise a CST from a baby.
I love that too! And CST’s are amazing creatures.
of course hes a goodboy
Thanks for taking such good care of Snappy
I trust what this guy says. He has the hat of a wildlife expert
Exactly! The knowledge is in the hat 😉
Where is the Chelonian Ranch? Thanks for taking care of Snappy
We are located in Indiana. The ranch is private home. Thanks for watching our videos!
Years ago, I rescued a huge snapping turtle from a multi lane highway...it was a hot day and it was really mad. I have no idea how I did it, but I ran across 4 lanes to get him away from the concrete barrier
Thank you for looking out for our shelled friends, but remember to be careful and not put yourself in danger ❤️
@@chelonianranch I would do it again if the situation presented itself...I have moved so many turtles off the road over the years
Beautiful turtle 🐢
I think I also have to always handle my cst so it will be like snappy, a friendly snapping turtle.
I will admit though, there are still times where I don’t fully 100% trust him, but he has never bit me.
LOVE the rings…. Especially the TURTLE shell!!😊💚
Thank you!
EH?!?! what a coincidence this is my first time seeing this video and I have a baby common snapping turtle named snappy who does not even get defensive when I take him out the tank. 😁😱
I love Snapping Turtles! I still don’t 100% trust Snappy since I didn’t raise him and accidents can happen, but he’s always been a good boy.
Wow, My best friend, I liked the video very much, thanks you for sharing, stay safe, stay blessed
Thank you!
Mine is exactly that size. He calms down after being out for a few minutes. Loves climbing all over the place.
Snappy loves climbing too! Our smaller snapper (who is very defensive) loves to climb too. I think the species in general loves to climb.
@@chelonianranch yes! He free roams the one room he's in. I'd find him on top of all sorts of things, just hanging out without a worry. Very personable too. Sometimes follows me around. Can't wait till he gets full size. Will be fun, lifetime pet👍. I have a 27 year old Alligator Snapper(Female). Total opposite of my Common lol!
Pretty Guy
Thank you for giving the facts straight, they only seem very agressive when taken out of their aquatic environment and interacted against their will, its fun to see quite a few videos online and from divers in fresh water environment where huge snapper are very friendly and only seem inquisitive !!! Your snapper is beautiful by the way, his face is very cute ! He reminds me a lot of other famous youtube snappers (namely Tank and Gizmo) , what a good mannered terrapin.
Absolutely! I’ve even been walking in the creeks and have stepped on a snapping turtle inadvertently, before, and it never bit me. They’re usually quite docile when submerged in water.
Такая хорошенькая, пухленькая!💞💞
Да! Благодарю вас!
Yes! Thank you!
When I was kid we had a brook at the end our street named blackbrook and we used to fish it all the time. Well one time I get what I thought was a huge snag but was slowly coming to shore so I figured a log or stump but it ended up being the biggest snapping turtle I ever saw! Normally when we'd catch a Snapper we'd get it to bite onto a stick so we could unhook them and set em free. Except this guy would not bite the stick no matter what! It got to the point where we got braver and braver and eventually I started petting his neck, then his head and eventually unhooked him by hand! He even opened his mouth for me(which scared me at first but he just held it open while I pryed on the hook) once unhooked we got so excited and got all the neighborhood kids. We ended up getting a Rubbermaid tub filling it with water and put it and him onto a wagon and took him to show all our parents. They couldn't believe it either except my mom. She said he must have been a pet who got released or just had been caught by so many kids he knew the routine by now. We named him Big Earl The Snapping Turtle and after that we saw him all the time! He'd bask in the sun right next to us while we fished and we'd always feed him a couple sunfish. It got to the point that when we started fishing we'd see this giant head pop out of the water, look at us then submerge again and all of a sudden the fish near the shore would freak out then he'd come climbing out of the water to sit next to us. God I miss my childhood and Big Earl!
This is such a wonderful story! I love it! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
I have always loved snapping turtles! How old is Snappy and how much does he / she weigh? Have a great day🐢
When snappy was surrendered to us, they said he was born before 2020, but I’m not exactly sure of his age. I’ve been a little behind, preparing for winter, so I haven’t had a chance to weigh him yet. I will post an update once I do. Thank you for the comment!
Not,,She,, is a Young Male around 3 to 4 years old .
Very interesting and informative. Cute Snappy
Awesome video. I find all Snapping Turtles fascinating
"if they bite down they can actually go -down to-* the bone in your finger"
*Through
Look up traumatic snapping turtle injury
It depends on the size of the snapping turtle. I have heard where they’ve gone to the bone if they are large enough.
Yo, very informational, love to see it.
Thank you! I really appreciate that
Nice turtle!
Thank You
I wonder if he is looking for his first owners?
So he like the other snapping turtle name Gizmo
My snapping turtle is the exact same way
Love it! Would love to see a picture of your Snapper!

@@chelonianranch I have a snapping turtle too
fascinating beautiful animal 🙂
Thank you!
Ours was called snappy but my wife call him happy instead. Ours let us pick him up often and we talk to him often. Ours darts after the pellets during game feeding time. We learned they love warm water and are more active in warm water. We take ours out in the sun during summer for bathing.
I take Snappy out to get sun during the warmer months too. He’s currently on a diet right now since he’s overweight and can get out in the yard at this time of year (January).
@@chelonianranch the other owner wanted to kill him to keep the shell but we could not allow that so we keep him in an unused bath tub with warm water with large rocks to hide under. They are very smart and know when we are around for feeding time.
Oh my lord a snappin Turla
I mean I love turtles as much as the next turtle nerd, but let's talk about those rings! Someone gets me!! You can love chelonians and be jewelristically fashion forward at the same time 😎
Haha! Yes! Each piece has a special meaning to me. Thanks for the comment ❤️
Mine is the same way.
I love snapping turtles! what diet do you give this guy? great vid
Thanks! Snapping Turtles are awesome! We have a creek near the ranch so I have an abundance of Bullfrogs, small fish and crawdads that I stock up and feed him. Working on gathering enough for the winter months since he stays inside during the winter.
@@chelonianranch that's the same thing I do for my hatchlings! A friend found three babies in his pool and gave them to me. I let on go and have two in a tank in till I can give one of them to someone who knows how to take care of him! Can you tell if it's a boy or girl when they are babies?
@@JamesOrcutt1 Not without knowing the temperature they were incubated at, and even then, it’s not guaranteed.
🌿
Nice turtle man! I catch one like this on the side of the road and i got to run around to catch it cause she wanted to bite me ,,,and when i catch it ,,she scratch my hands and arm so bad ,,this are so strong
I have to be careful with Snappy as well because his legs are strong too and definitely scratch.
Alligator snapping turtle 🐢
Niccce
Thank you!
@@chelonianranch welcome i have on in my indoor pond on my page u can see him
You can't put them on their back or hold them that was you can kill them that where their lungs are I have a turtle
Thank you for the comment. While you are correct, that their lungs are located at the top of the Carapace, most turtles would have to be on their back for extended periods of time (hours) in order to cause any harm. This, of course, excludes, very large turtles and tortoises.
How old is he
If you hand me a Snapping Turtle named SNAPPY, Ill immediately think he snaps allot so don't know if you did that on purpose haha
Lol, that makes perfect sense! That was his name when he was surrendered to the ranch. I always keep the names they were originally given upon surrender.
he realy is not agresseve like most snapping turtls I have a big one in my crick and I named him Jerry🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢
i'v always wanted a pet snapping turtle from the pet store or rescue wild ones from bags and i did once and we sent him to the nearest wild life sanctuweary😘😘
I have one too his name is bull he is 4 years old I got him when I was seven and I’m ten now
He’s aggressive
Snappy is so cute!! 🥺
Right?! We love him! 😊
