I started the Mentor Me series with the goal to try to hang around people who've done a lot more than us, learn from their success, soak in a little bit more of their mindset and beliefs, and understand how they operate. You know, the environment is so important. The more you can hang around these people, the more some of that seeps into you to make you the best version of yourself. Today, we're going to get motivated with Sylvester Stallone. Mentor me, Sylvester!
Sylvester Stallone's journey is all about overcoming obstacles and believing in yourself. He talks about the importance of challenge, the thrill of being told "no" and turning it into a "yes". From living in a flophouse to selling his dog, Stallone faced countless rejections but never gave up. His persistence led him to write the iconic "Rocky" script in just three and a half days, despite numerous agents dismissing him. Even when offered a substantial amount of money for his script, he refused to sell it unless he could star in it. His unwavering belief in himself and his vision eventually led to the film being made and becoming a massive success.

Stallone has said he paid $3000 to get his dog back, not $15,000 like bullshiter Tony Robbins claimed, apparently to embellish the story.

Love this! His story and speech has always got me. I think we are all called to encourage and light fires within ourselves and others but most of us fail to do so. Sylvester Stallone is one of the few that actually succeed to do so. The lessons from him listed are truly a guide to being a strong person...a survivor. I'm gonna make a sign depicting them to hang on my wall to read them every day. I think the parts which inspire me the most are the words in his speech about taking the blows and keeping on fighting back in life. Life doesn't discriminate in it's attempts to break us all, but so many buckle and quit. I love the hearts of Sly and Rocky. It's only fitting he played his character. He was destined to be a light in a dark world.

It's really amazing for sure, but he also said that 90% of it was just thrown away, writers have to write over and over again till they create somethin' good. The secret, as Sly said once, is to write the first draft as quickly as possible(cause that's where most writers procrastinate) and then comes the fun part where you make adjusments and tweeks your story.

“LISTEN TO YOUR GUT”
& Yes! An Edgar Allen Poe expert! I totally forgot about that. Tony Robbins first book touched on Sylvester Stallone’s expertise with Poe& it still resonates with me. I happened to have purchased a book at a thrift store for .10 cents instead of buying new shoes like I was supposed to. My mom was extremely upset about it but I remember it made it more of a treasure. Reading it cover to cover just absorbed in something that had more depth than Green Eggs and Ham (it was before 1st grade) Poe’s short stories are a dark reference but I had no way of knowing the preface back then. Your video Literally took me back to that ice cold trailer house escaping into the treasure of the book that fed me intellectually though my stomach grumbled and my feet hurt; hence the lack of new shoes.

Mike Medeavoy was head of production at United Artists when it produced ROCKY and in his memoir he says that no one offered Stallone any money to let another actor play the role. Also, each subsequent time Stallone tells the story the figure gets bigger. When interviewed for the 25th anniversary of the release of ROCKY Stallone claimed he was offered $500,000 to step aside. Other than that part I found the video very inspirational.

I went to see ‘Rocky Balboa’ with a life long friend, & fellow ‘Rocky’ fan. When the part came when Rocky spills his guts on the street to his son, it sent my eyes into a waterfall of tears; because I felt like Rocky was speaking directly to me through the movies dialogue. My friend knew it also...He leaned over to me, & put his hand on my knee and said...”Rocky is like the father you never had”...and it became gut wrenching. I still cannot watch this scene without feeling the same way I did that night in the theater, the very first time I saw it. It’s THAT powerful.
There are many reasons why I feel this way, but now that I’m pushing 50 years old, I finally understand what it takes to push past the obstacles...push past the muck & shit in my life that has beaten me down over & over again...and to stay hungry for success, goals, & dreams. I also find myself using these words when I have issues with my teenage son. He is very much like myself at his age, and I refuse to be an absent father figure in his life. He my think I’m annoying now because of this, but one day he might just appreciate the fact that I love him & wanted to help guid him in the right direction; and to not fall into the same ruts that I did without a strong father figure in his life to help him along the way.
I just couldn’t have imagined that ‘Rocky Balboa’ (& Sly in general) would’ve ended up serving as some sort of a ‘surrogate father’ to myself? It truly is inspirational how amazing this man really is. I’m not sure how many people can honestly say that ‘Rocky’ saved their life. But in my case, it’s the truth. Thank you for posting this. And as Rocky would say “Ain’t nothing over till it’s over”. Get up & make something of yourself.

Stop letting other people tell you that you are no good. My book will be released in November of this year. When I was in 6th grade I told myself I would write a book. I'm 44, and will be turning 45 on August 30th, so it took me years to realize this but it is finally within reach. I believe in myself brother. Thank you for this great video.

When I was in 6th grade, my English teacher told me that I had an incredible ability to tell stories about the things I see in the world. She would ask me to write stories, 2 or 3 paragraphs long about things around me, and then she would read these stories in front of the class. This inspired me and I've continued looking for the story behind everything I see and experience. So what do I do for a living? I help create wonderful stories while solving people's problems and meeting their real estate needs. I develop and share stories about people, homes and neighborhoods and find others who want to hear those stories. I help people start a new chapter in the story of their lives. I don't just tell stories about doors, windows, walls, floors, foundations, prices and deeds. I tell stories about experiences, dinners, holidays, community events, memories, details, people, family, goals, life, environment, past, present, future and more. I'm a story teller. Selling homes is a byproduct of this. I'm a Realtor.

Sylvester Stallone was always been my idol because of the movie Rocky. There are better talented actors then Stallone but that's not the point the point is his journey and the kind of inspiration he is.
