We all know why. This series was never meant to entertain. It was more like one of those time share scams where they lure you in with a vacation...but make you sit through a prolonged sales pitch. This was always social engineering and programming first and foremost. Theyve now openly admitted it with the casting director saying her casting decisions were to sway the "unconscious bias" of the viewer. Adapting the material was never an objective, much less a priority. I hate Netflix for their crimes against art and literature. I hope these people lose their livelihoods over this.
Very well put. Yeah the casting director with her intentions of swaying the unconscious bias is scary, to be honest. I just hope the majority of people won't buy into this mess.
Wait they kill Rience?! Isn’t Ciri supposed to be beating the shit out of Cahir here? Oh no they flipped his character. The Nilfgaardian fusion sword dance is gonna be funny to watch though 😂 In the books Geralt does come upon Cahir, beaten bloody by Ciri and spares him, after she has ran to the tower and used the teleport. And that’s when Vilgefortz shows up to ragdoll Geralt.
Hah...they probably know the show is 'finished' subconsciously ;). But jokes aside, I am surprised that they get rid of Rience already, with the books there was this ironic echo to Rience death, as he once said that he would kill Yennefer with "these very fingers" and when Ciri has the edge in the brilliant scene on a frozen lake ice skating while slaughtering enemies at the end of the Tower of the Swallow, she...ice skate slashes through Rience fingers as he holds onto ice and the lake swallows him up :)...well I guess this badass scene will never appear now,....in any case the show mght not survive long enough to reach that point in story haha, of course more serriously, we know for sure there WILL BE season 4 and possibly 5, which fills me with dread....season 4 especially, as Baptism of Fire is one of my favorite of witcher books I feel pain at the very thought how they will butcher it!!!!!
The only word that comes to mind is "Why?" Not in the sense that I'm dismayed at the butchering of the story -- I stopped caring back in season 2 -- but in the sense of "What the fuck is going on? I feel lost and confused. Is this what dementia feels like?"
I totally agree with you about Fringilla why is she fighting with nilfigard the emperor literally imprisoned her and almost killed her (she could of been poisoned) also she heard about the mage party at the bar granted doesn't explain why she was stupid enough to go to a place she betrayed
Did those people just mention the conclave or did they mention the planned attack and who was involved, because the people leading the attack, Francesca and Cahir, are surprised that she’s with arrives them
I agree there’s a lot of problems with this series. I will say the complaints of too much Yen and Ciri haven’t read the books. Most of that is actually book accurate. There are actually lots of chapters with no Geralt. The problem is they still don’t have him do enough in the big battle. He does a lot of killing in that battle before he fights and losses to V. And obviously them trying to tie up storylines they started that aren’t in the books waste lots of time
Yes, Yen and Ciri are big characters with lots of book time, though Yen isn't in the later chapters of Time of Contempt, but Netflix is taking that way farther and sidelining Geralt to do it. It's still legitimate to criticize Netflix for focusing on the women even from a book perspective. But Geralt does have the most book time overall. Ciri isn't in Last Wish or Seasons and Yen is barely in those 2
Did they at least bother to explain a sudden transformation of Vilgeshmuck (who lost to Cahir) into Vilgefortz (terrifyingly powerful mage), before/during his fight with Geralt? "I was hiding my true powaaarrr for years!!!" or something?
With complete rewrite of the elven plot and Francesca's role, hell her role in the coupe would make a lot of the writing problems disappear if it was done faithfully to book! Francesca being the only pure blood elf in the human Brotherhood of Sorcerers and becoming a traitor (here the show could have explored more, have her inner conflict on one hand her human colleagues on the other the fate of her race and so on) she also is opening the door to the underground dungeon through which the Scoia'tael of Isengrim Faoilitiarna go in, she working with Vilgefortz and Nilfgaard...hell if done right it would have been compelling but the whole of the Francesca story as they written in the show is garbage fanfic!!! The Yennefer bringing in the sword she is basically taking that role from Dandelion/Jaskier, who brought Geralt his swords in book! Hell the change with Francesca also removes the whole subplot of Yennefer getting turned into figurine by her!
No. No, no, no, no, I refuse to believe Episode 6 is this bad. No way. No freaking way lol! I won't believe it. Come on! Edit: I finished watching the whole 2nd half last night. Jesus... it's worse than I thought! No wonder Henry elected to leave. This is terrible!
Alzur have the Alzur's Thunder but it was a difficult spell that none of the mages was able to replicate, the closest thing was Triss in the end of the books.
@@HollywoodScholar - I'm just super confused how we've gone from one quality to another in the show. Going back to Season 1 where Yen taps into fire magic at Sodden Hill, that scene worked so well. Thanedd Coup is such an iconic event in the entire story, really it should have been split into 3 episodes that were super detailed, and the season should have ended with it. Ok, admittedly for a session of the Witcher tabletop rpg game I made a Witcher character who, instead of carrying two swords, uses a staff with shortsword blades on both ends (acting mostly as a staff/spear), so I may sound a little hypocritical when I say that the Nilfgaardian joint swords thing is a pretty dumb combo...
I don't know how the mages fought decently with a variety of spells in the battle of Sodden Hill & now the only spells they know is shield and push. WTF. Episode 6 of Season 3 of the Witcher could have been very good instead of just ok but the writers are so lazy that they just refuse to put any effort into their jobs
season 3 character arcs & characterization of the Witcher is really bad. its a sad waste of time. they turn GERELT into a side character in his own show. his action scene are good but the show barely focuses on him , which really a shame because Gerelt is a captivating character as always. i thought the writers might have concentrated on his character more but as usual the Witcher writers are clueless. they turn Radovid into an annoying LEX LUTHER type of character from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. the writers turn Emhyr var Emreis, The White Flame Dancing on the Barrows of his Enemies into an incredibly bland boring character. his dialog is the worst. its completely takes you out of the show. As for YENNEFER , she failed to apologize in any meaningful & significance way to GERALT or Cirilla for releasing discount baba Yaga , taking CIRI to Cintra to be possessed , YENNEFER doesn't show any guilt for the Witchers who died in KAER MORHEN or anything. YENNEFER does try to shallowly & half-heartedly apologize to GERALT for maybe a couple minutes in one episode if you add the total up but it lacks substance & any type of conviction at all. As for YENNEFER apologizing to CIRI for taking advantage of her trust & getting her possessed , they have a one minute conversation about it. I'm honestly not sure because it went by so fast that I can't even say that's what the conversation was about. Then the writers just hand wave the situation & nobody brings it up again period. As for YENNEFER actions in relation to the plot season 3 , it was established in almost the whole franchise that YENNEFER doesn't care for politics [ in the games YENNEFER only cares in relation to saving other people, in the books YENNEFER is not that good at politics & you get the gist that among the mages of the north Philippa Eilhart & Vilgefortz are excellent at politics by comparison to YENNEFER & she only cares in relation to her magic school or saving someone , even in season one of the show's YENNEFER leaves politics behind her early. So because season 3 focuses on a GAME OF THRONE LITE version of Thanedd Coup YENNEFER character really suffered from the bad writing especially after her character assassination characterization of season 2. Yennefer’s actions in The Witcher season 2 make some of her best moments in season 3 feel unearned and very hard to believe. a montage isn’t enough to make viewers fully buy that Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer are a family. It gets irritating after a while. CIRI trains with magic & different ways of fighting for a bit but its so so to me because she gets interrupted repeatedly so I don't think of her as a great fighter. A good one but not outstanding. A problem with her character is that the writers are trying to portray her as a great physical fighter instead of a person who uses agility , flexibility, magic swordsmanship to kick ass & Freya Allen looks thin & tall , in other words not a strong physical fighter. I wouldn't mind if they actually made improvements on the source material but all the so called improvements were even worse than fanfiction.
