You really aren't supposed to use your home oven to bake paint. It's dangerous and unhealthy. That's why most youtubers who use home ovens to do this usually setup a 2nd used old oven in their garage or work building to diy bake paint.
Yeah... 😬
Yes, please DO NOT do this. You will breathe in paint and your food you bake will have paint residue in it. This is why paint shops have paint booths.
He's done this before and I said the same thing.
yes. DO NOT DO THIS.
That's not important. But why the hell is - on the right and + on the left???
I figured this was coming… can never resist boosting a Honda.
too true
They just love to move air !!
Hondas most underrated vehicle? Sir I’ll have you know I built and turbo’ed an acura legend sedan. THAT is underrated. This ain’t that hard it’s a J series 😂
It’s super healthy to cook car parts in a food oven. 100%
It adds flavor, live a little.
*Hope you don't use that oven to cook food...*
He is a dumb ass kid with money what do you expect
Hey dude that was a great watch. BTW if you find you are having issues with power steering noises ever, there's usually 2 o-rings going into the pump that go bad + you can also replace the entire power steering reservoir itself, plus flush all the lines. The reservoir has a filter inside, I replaced it on my '08 accord when I had it and significantly quieted the system. Obviously only use Honda PS fluid too.
It was loud when I first started it after everything, but after bleeding it it quieted up. Good to know though!
Good to hear man, I wanted all the noise gone completely and my car wasn't super well maintained and even after several flushes, I still got noise at max steering turn, especially at idle or low speed. @@_Gingium_
Yup, that little set of rings was all I needed to shut up the power steering. Easy peasy.
The p/s pump inlet o-ring has an updated part number, the original is a black o-ring, the new 1 is orange
Damn Honda power steering pumps, my Tl 3.2 had a bad one
I think that the wrinkle black was a good choice! Definitely more interesting than the wrinkle red everyone has.
So happy that turbo j series is finally getting more main stream. I would love to turbo my TL type S some day and if more creators start getting into the platform it may not be too long before we see a full kit get produced.
Yeah I'm surprised there aren't any kits out there!
y’all don’t have a turbo kit?
my B15 sentra 1.8 has like 5 of them
@@UncleVenz there’s a few supercharger kits out there but with how compact the j series engine bays are I don’t think it’s been worth the r&d for a company to step in and make one.
@@jcsweet6618 that makes sense
i had a boosted 3.6 Challenger and couldn’t really fit turbos that great so i went centrifugal sc
there are kits from slickfab and from halferland performance. both are small companies that focus primarily on j series.
Oh man, I had a 2001 Accord sedan that I pulled the J30A1 and swapped in a JDM J32A, swapped it from auto to manual with a 2003 Acura CL Type-S LSD six speed manual trans, and I fabricated a turbo kit for it with a GTS3582 turbo with a GFB electronic boost controller, 1000cc injectors, and it all ran on an AEM Series II 30-6051 standalone ECU. It made 503 whp at 10 psi.
Thats really cool, ive always wanted to do that on a 4th gen odyssey but with the j35 or j37
You have fb or ig I got questions cuz I'm doing that same thing
This is the video us J series guys have been waiting for because 99% of us either dont have the funds or the time to do it. Props to Gingium!
Sup man, awesome build I have a gen 6 EU accord myself.. just a heads up - baking the paint in an oven where you also prepare food is a pretty bad idea.. the particles and volatiles stay there for AGES and get onto the food you eat (even though you don't necessarily taste it).. I don't need to tell you why that's super bad.. get a cheap old oven from marketplace to plug into a socket in your warehouse (also great for installing bearings and friction fit stuff.. you don't need a torch)
faster than chrisfix turboing his del sol
And supercharging the Mustang lol
Did he finally turbo it. Feel like I've been waiting forever
@@karlclements7642nah he pranked us with a dashcam video 😂
Is it coming?? I tot hes supercharging his prius
thats the content we all petrolheads needs, here in argentina one guy put the same engine with a big turbo in a rear wheel drive Ford Taunus and sounds incredible too
theres is a video called "TAUNUS V6 TURBO 420 HP "EL GF""
@@frann949 sounds crazy imma check that out
Another important step before painting metal parts (especially iron) is to heat the parts with a plumber's torch right before painting. Not too hot, but enough to drive off moisture and expose any residual grease, oil or cleaner left behind.
make sure to re-gap those rings if you want anything more then 350 whp! They heat up and touch and blow the ringlands to pieces. Happened to me with my turboed j30.
He won't, that will be the downfall of this build.
Now you have my attention. I have 2 of those cars. An 03 in San Marino red and an 06 in Alabaster silver, both 2 door and 6 speed. My 06 is a rare ALL OPTION car, it has the spoiler, fog lights AND navigation with carbon fiber trim and no blank swithes!!!
Heat gun with VHT is the best way. The oven trick never works.
I vouch heat gun too!
Yup and it comes out way nicer
Can confirm. Couple light tack coats with about 10 minutes to dry, and then a good flood coat and heat gun got me a great looking wrinkle black valve cover with none of the build up lines. Very uniform fingerprint style wrinkles too.
those are some fancy parts
I just bought a 2016 6-6 with 39k. I've owned a rsx-s. Still own em1. My 6-6 is a masterpiece of a car. What's crazy it's as fast as my cousins 2018 sti.
I got a black 16 6-6 too, fbo great fun daily.
Wow. Congrats man, you got an absolute gem in low mileage too! im jealous 😂
Maturing is realizing Gingium has always been THE man… man doesn’t get enough credit but it’s so cool to see how this channel has changed and grown since I started watching in middle school
Ive had great results with thinner coats using a hair dryer or heat gun in between coats to activate the wrinkle.
Great video. Can't wait to see when the turbo is mounted.
Run Royal purple oil through it for 500 miles then check valves and do it again it’ll make them valve train look new again, then go back to your original oil
The P2R guys are an awesome bunch. They used to race at my events at the old PBIR track in West Palm. Really cool to see them grow the way they have.
Sean is awesome from P2R
You really really really should do a valve clearance check, those intake valves are known to get tight, spoke too soon well done
From swaping this engine in my s2000.. youl need stronger bottom end in the long term.. built one aside . But a standard accord 2 doors. That was the rare gem we were looking after. They make really good match to supercharger too.
Should really gap the pistons rings too. How much boost are you planing on trowing at it? You can cerakote pistons and give yourself a little layer of "holly shit" protection too. But if you open the engine just built it with froged internals. They aren't that pricey.
magnesium j35/37 manifolds will definitely hellp with heatsoak/iat issues
I use the wrinkle paint a lot. Best result it to heat it up with a heat gun, first coat light and the next 2 coats heavy. You’ll get a better result using a heat gun afterwards too
I was hoping you would wrinkle paint the intake manifold as well, but after seeing it with the contrasting silver and black I think that was the right decision. this thing looks great!
It would be nice if you added a "part 1" in the title since I'm sure not the only one who likes to binge watch this type of videos to the final result.
Ain't no way. Fam, I was just catching up with the last 2 accord videos, and here's another, God is good.
The track you chose when you started taking down the power steering pump had me vibing hard haha. You have a really good music taste dude.
VHT has a deeper and better looking wrinkle if you let it dry in cooler temps (warm room). Higher oven temps will make the wrinkles "tighter" or smaller
if you really want to refresh the engine and make sure you don't have starvation issues later i suggest you flush the engine using liqui moly or BG products
Interesting to see how well that paint holds up. I tried to paint my J's manifold twice and it just wouldn't stick. Ended up giving up and having it powder coated. Then again I didn't sand it like you said lol
The before and after shots cannot be overstated. So good. So good
I love the Honda content 👌 father in law got a K20a2 swapped of the same Accord & i keep spamming him your build series 😂
The title makes me think Honda Cr-z but honestly the J30 doesn't get enough attention and this was insightful to my own turbo project (yes it's a CR-Z)
Hey Gingium I've done powder coating at home and if I can do it I think you can too. I'd say the hardest part is the oven but you can just pick up a regular kitchen oven and set it up in the shop. I used a sandblasting cabinet to get my parts cleaned up and I think I saw you had one. Only things you would have problem powder coating is rims but if you really get into it I seen people make big ovens with kitchen oven elements and regular insulation stuff you'd find in a regular hardware store
If you have the hood clearance for it, you should look into getting the intake spacer off of a Honda odyssey with the J35, it makes the intake sound so good and the throttle response is a tad better!
I’d love to see a turbo build on a 3G TL Type S or a 4G TL SH!
There are lots of turbo 3g TL popping up
someone is finally building a J series on youtube 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 i thought that this day would never come
Have you considered putting a three cylinder diesel in it?
Came out so good aesthetically! Then a turbo J series is going to absolutely rip!
Wow that oven trick really turned out cool. Would have not guessed it would do that. If you do this regularly might want to get a dedicated oven for that though. :P
Why don’t do a underside turbo ?? It would be pretty unique and the lag would be that bad because of the displacement. Anyway love your videos ❤
Apparently it's a myth that rear mount increases turbo lag. The time it takes for exhaust gasses to travel is negligible.
I think the intake location would be really bad for a daily
I have to say, Pulsar turbos are dominating the market now
You need a new oven. Do not cook In that oven now.
Nice work as always!! Quick tip, get a carbide scraper and ditch the razor blade for removing old gasket material. Just recently started using one and its so much better.
Probably the cleanest accord I’ve seen 👍🏻
If you still have time, Judging from the condition of your internals. Do consider doing and oil change with an engine oil that had high detergency or using something like liquidmoly engine flush a few times together with a few engine oil change would definnetly help with longetivity and possibilitly reliablity. As what i think an engine thats going to be reved more and run hotter in the future having a cleaner engine wouldnt be that bad off. since its simple few oil changes. Can show the before and after in video as well.
You do not need more power for the crankshaft bolt, you just need a 'Honda' socket. These sockets are thick and have more rotating mass. Has not failed me once. The bolt comes right off without the 1100LB torque monster. 😅
Relocate the battery to the trunk and put that turbo in the area from the location of the battery that will look sick
One of my dream cars since I was a yougin is a 2007 Acura TL Type-S with a turbo kit. Nice to see the J series getting some love.
I miss my v6 accord so much, glad to see someone put a turbo on the J.
Would be cool if you could get together your old daily driver builds and race them all with your new one for a video if the new owners would be down
Please when washing your engine bay cover it with something. It could possibly damage your alternator and thats obviously not good. Just a tip ! Great video btw I love watching the progress
Great video! Been loving this series. Love how it’s went from a dirty daily to a nice daily to a fucking turbocharged daily! 😂😂😂
You should valveoline restore and protect oil for the next 2-3 oil changes and see how it does cleaning the varnish / sludge in the engine and pop the valve cover off to see
YESSS FINALLY I’m hyped asf to see the accord get the turbo noises it needed 🫠❤️
remember turbo oil drains need to be 11mm id or bigger.... you can get away with 10mm id but it may not drain well enough. most turbo companies recommend 13mm
Greddy makes a period correct exhaust that you should use.
I've got a Pulsar 4849G (G25-550 clone) and it's LOUD even without the T1R mod. Pulsars seem to be way louder than the Garrett equivalents from what I've heard from others also. It's too much for a daily driver so I hope you don't regret going T1R mod haha.
Bro repaint the intake silver too and honda letters in RED. She coming along so clean man!
The work accomplished in one video 💪🏽💪🏽 excited for this! Going to learn more about my turbo setup along the way!
Very nice work. im interested to hear the v6 turbo noises too!
Underrated OG UA-cam Channel
Backyard trail builds are going to go hard. 😂
Boosted J's are so underrated. Cant wait to see the build
yeah J35 turbo with TL Type S six speed from canadia would be one of the best hondas.
did honda ever make an awd 6spd?
They did, the 4th gen TL got a 6spd on the AWD model exclusively
@@zandaughtry7936yep but the production numbers are very low. I think I only ever saw one.
@@zandaughtry7936 that would be absolute madness in this gen accord coupe lol
J35 turbos will do 800whp on stock internals lol
idk how much this generation (6th?) weighs, but with 800hp and awd it would be pretty fuckin quick
dude its so weird how many of the same cars we've owned. Bugeye, Datsun Roadster, Mazda b2600, Volvo 245 and now this Honda Accord
Looks like an awesome build. Excited to see this thing rip! Ready as well to see that SI hatch build.
If you have an oil leak that runs down the back side of the oil pan it's the oring behind the oil pump.
Busch's aluminum wash for removing grease, dirt and oxidation. Stuff works wonders.
I was just watching the whole series since I got myself an 03 sedan. So stoked to modify it as my new daily
I actually thought you’d do a supercharger on this one, but I love a turbo too so I can’t blame you haha.
This thing is so clean. He’s gonna add like $500 in value.
You ever need something coated and a fast turn around just lmk, I have some coating on my channel and actually stopped doing youtube I got so busy. Never backed up and never overpriced 👏
This has been by far my favourite build series . Not necessarily my favourite car even though I love Hondas .
Keep it jdm cars,
Simple but nice interior upgrades, custom exhaust , new brakes wheels , turbo and engine mods and a few bolt on exterior mods makes for the best most relatable build series . The numbers don’t lie 😊
You can use that wrinkle black with out baking in the oven and get the same result or even better lol I have a wrinkle black intake I did and never put it in an oven and it still looks perfect and has the texture to it
nice work. need to do this to my 08 TL Type S
gear and gasoline recommend using that Valvoline oil that cleans. this engine could benefit from that oil.
The same people that tell you not to use your oven, don't use a mask when they paint or sand. Use your oven any way you want.
i need the whole build kit asap lmaoo need mine turbo’d right now
The time has come and finally you made engine bay way better.
Hey Caleb, for a really really clean look what about a Battery relocation?
he showed that the turbo is going in place where the battery currently is 16:00
@@LXproject Oops, i didnt see that im Stupid
Seriously, 2 seconds of beauty shots after a 2min long video
I've done wrinkle paint heaps and I've only ever used a heat gun between coats and got a way better finish then that
This is my favorite series to watch while eating 😭I watch the whole vid without a beat😭☝️
After just doing the same thing minus the turbo upgrades to my j series. Also to to note my first honda reinsured me that I did everything correct. Downside I have the auto trans which is made of glass.
Gotta paint that upper intake manifold red man, match the brakes and the badge lol
You should build another Volvo sleeper to accompany the 245, maybe a 745 from the 80s
Always fun to see some unconventional builds. One thing bothers me though. That oil pan has virtually no baffling. How does it not oil starve backing out of the driveway? I don't have a lot of experience with Honda so am I missing something?
Can’t wait to see this thing running with the turbo.
Never get runs with it?
Except that one huge run on that 1 cover hahaha
now we getting serious!!!! P2R BOY! oh and found out the hard way on a j35 in a 2003 pilot you have to lift the motor to take out the oil pan. humbled me thinking it was going to be a 20 minute job.
You can tell Audrey really likes him😂 most people have to buy a shop oven to bake parts
Also please get a shop oven those fumes are really bad for you
Loving the background music... instrumental jazz ???
You should do a wire harness tuck next after the turbo
Nothing makes me smile like seeing a dirty, un-cared for engine bay get cleaned.
