It was July 13 th 1981 at the Dr Pepper music festival in New York City on the piers over looking the Hudson River , Emmylou opened The show with “hello stranger” the sun set on the horizon hot orange she danced around with the black 200 Gibson like tornado with Statue of Liberty off in the distance. It was spiritual event in my life one that I will always remember. The hot summer night ended with a cool Breeze off the water, l drove the hour ride back home to the mid hudson vally a changed man! Thank you for posting this video. And thank you. Emmylou Harris. And all of the many band members ,Managers, producers And agents . A FAN AND FRIEND STEVE. GARDNER
When Ricky Skaggs joined Emmylou shortly before this, he was joining "the Hot Band" which was and IS considered the best back-up band ever assembled. Ricky was shocked that they didn't know the "rules" and Harmonies of a bluegrass band and had to teach them. This is some of the tasty results.
Saw Emmylou at the garden state arts center in 1986. The bands instruments got lost or stolen the day before , so they played on borrowed instruments....still, sitting on the grass under the stars on a warm evening was something I'll remember forever, had a crush on Emmylou for yrs before I finally saw her....
@@strawberryseason The song was originally recorded by the Carter Family in 1938, back when most cities had streetcar lines. I'll place an inquiry with the trolley car interest group and see what comes up, although it's quite possible that it doesn't apply to any city in particular--songwriters didn't always strive for geographical accuracy--the real Wabash Cannonball never went anywhere near the "lakes of Minnesota."
I'm so glad that you posted this song with Ricky Skaggs and Emilou Harris. Someone else had a 1979 version that had to be removed due to copyright violations. I hope this one sticks. I'm going to put it in my favourites.
Great moments in Paris. I have a copy of the French television video. I wish i posted it, but don't mean to get no trouble with the copyright. One thing bothers me: They didn't show us Albert Lee's and Frank Reckard's fine guitar solos from close.
Now that is real country music...Ricky and Emmylou epitomize real country music
The rock version is way better then water this
❤😊
Ricky nails the first line and sets the stage for the rest of the song, superb in every way
Thanks for making me rewind & replay.
He kicks it off perfectly! Check out the band behind them, huge grins on the kickoff.
Years ago, middle of the night, bad time in my life, this comes on the radio-first time I ever heard Emmylou! Became an instant fan.
Wow so much talent in one stage, this is country at its best
Real Country Miss Emmylou Harris! ❤

Ricky Skaggs had/has the absolutely perfect PERFECT voice for country music
She sings as effortlessly as average person speaks.

There are lots of country songs about trains, but this is one of the few that mentions streetcars. A beautiful lady singing a wonderful song!
When I hear it, I wonder which southern city they are referring to. Which of them has street cars?

@@DNRY122 Thank you!
I love this song and others of this ilk that start very simply and build to a vocal and instrumental cacophony of the most excellent kind.
❤ I use to be a strung out drug user in the 70s. I loved listening to her so much she helped me to get off IV drugs I love her❤
They are so great together. Love It!!!

It's my favorite version of this song including all the Carter Family ones so that's saying a lot for me.

It's one of my favorites.
She's beautiful :)
I don't listen to many female country music singers, but I like this one song by her, very harmonizing. ❤
The world was just better than. In every way imaginable.
Ricky Skaggs has the greatest voice for this just epic!
Is that Ricky Scaggs? Boy there good! ❤️🤗
That move she makes at 1:04 just gets me. Love that woman.

Diese Musik liebe ich.
Oh my this women sure is something, she should of wore jeans more often!
Glad she e finally dumped the long country queen dresses.
@BigBoiJC
Yep, its Albert!
It makes me remember THE DUKES OF HAZZARD
Sweeeeeet
1:02 ELH boogie
Hard to pick between this version with ricky skaggs and the rodney crowell version both grouse.
Gram is smiling ....
@ragtimeD The rest of the band was a bunch of hippies who hung around Graham Parsons. Not to say that is bad, in fact it is good!!
Je suis d'accord mais la qualité d'auteur-compositeur chez Emmylou Harris est constante au fil des années.
I DO believe that's Albert Lee next to the drummer...can anyone verify this?
Yup, that is the great Albert Lee!
Effortless Natural talent. No contortion to get the sound.
Best guitar player is frank ricard on mandolin. Want proof listen to luxury liner. Lee took over for Frank when he left to ba lawyer
Wooooaaa!!!! Who's that guy who sing? He sings much better than Emmylou.
Yeah, right, and you're better looking than Rock Hudson
la 1ére fois c'était pas à l'olympia plutôt...
