I went looking for the best cover of Barbara Lewis' glorious "Hello Stranger,' and my search ended here. Thank you Samantha for your very worthy cover of a truly great song. How does this video not have a million views?
Okay I've seen a variety of this lady at various venues doing this song and this is by FAR the best mix the best everything of this song. Whoever set it up in the studio and mixed did a fabulous job. The musicians were great and Miss Fish pours out her heart. Wonderful stuff you guys.
KVMR played this around 5:00 pm-ish today and I had to look it up to see who she was. I always loved Barbara Lewis version, but I must say, she does an excellent job!! Kudos to you Samantha and your wonderful band of musicians!
I like her guitar work, and this arrangement is great. She is an amazing player, and her restraint on this song is so perfect…not too much and not too little. It must have been tempting to work in a real shredding guitar solo but she just gives the song what it needs, and the results are wonderful. Her vocal is (obviously) great as well. I have watched several videos with this lineup from 2018 and the whole crew was terrific. Thank you for posting this and sharing it with us all. So nice to find real artists who play and perform live and are so legit. Keep it coming!!
Not a chance. But I do love that y’all love such a great song.. but when you listen to the original, the magic is in how they did it exactly the way they did it back during those times. So so beautiful.
🌸🌻🌸just heard this and I LOVE it so much💘 so soulful and compliments the original by Barbara Lewis, which I love too. I keep re-playing this and dancing. Sooooo good 💖🌻🌸
Well, you have a fan on a Scottish Island, Samantha! UA-cam sent you to me 1 month ago from Daryl's House. I've got you on all day/night. Can't believe that I didn't know of your brilliance. This Scot has paid Amazon £14.00 for your 'Chills and Fever' CD. The rest of my 'newer music' collection comes in at (about) £6.00...You're worth it!
Found it! Been looking for a live version of this song where her guitar work matched the subtlety and delicate beauty of her studio version on Chills and Fever. And this is the best one yet. Also from this same session, check out No Angels. Exquisite.
But it works and works beautifully. Maybe Barbara Lewis’ studio just tossed her a microphone keyboard and drum sticks and said you got like 30 minutes and she produced one of the most amazing songs ever so Fish with her vast arrangements really gives witness to the brilliance of Lewis IMHO but I’m just a dorky White guy from Chicago.
This almost blew my mind as a fantastic cover of Barabara Ann Lewis's great song which I thought could not get better than the original. Now, I am not so sure.

Great version. If not heard[?] have a listen to Yvonne Elliman’s outro

Different vibe, but you should check out Julia Holter's version of this song.
I like Yvonne Elliman's, myself.
But I love the guitar playing in Samantha's.
Smooth, polished, soulful, and live!
Goddamn.......first heard this when I was....well 1963 ish....thanks for lighting up the sounds and memories so sweetly!

Just a totally amazing cover, hitting all the right spots. Bluesy and smooth. How is this cover not WAY more popular? boggles me mind!!!
It just proves that if you have real talent you don't need an exotic recording studio.

Jesus Samantha, that was so beautiful that it brought me to tears.

I really like this studio version of “Hello Stranger” you can hear what a great voice she has. 😁

GO GIRL ! SAMANTHA YOU HAVE YOURSELF AND SURROUNDED BY REALLY REALLY GOOD MUSICIANS. ALWAYS A WINNER KEEP SHINING WINNERS !
Excellent. I dig it deep. Even though they took the chew-bop outta the chew-bop, chew-bop baby.
Samantha giving it the Al Green touch on this song!
Yeah Al Green. That's it. I couldn't put my finger on it. Nice job.
Zo Mooi !! Great all the way !! Knap " Hello Stranger" ??
Samantha mostruosa. Che voce.
love her voice
what a surprise. didn't know she could go there. beautiful guitar work. nice arrangement. she made it her own but the essence of the song is there.
Now thatz Perfection......
This girl has super talent wow go Samantha and the band too. That bass player !
2 people here don't know a darn thing about great musicianship... Love You Samantha
Great ensemble work. SF is a hard working versatile muso.
I love how she moves.
You know what I love most about this lovely young lady? No tats!!
Bingo!

She cool.
This almost blew my mind as a fantastic cover of Barabara Ann Lewis's great song which I thought could not get better than the original. Now, I am not so sure.
She is a hot foxy lady ...I wish she would come to Asheville
Love Samantha's rendition. Only thing missing is the "shubop shubop my baby."
pleez show-up in my city_dont want you being a stranger!
❤
Shoo wop shoo wop my baby ooo.
Hey man what’s with the camera man....stay on the star
Heavens to Mercutroid!!!! The way she skips between voice and guitar at the end.
Smoke in.....
Life is too short for so many tangled wires on the floor, did Sam join in untangling them all 😀
Musics good plus she's hot.
Great tribute to Barbara Lewis.
Best version is By Carrie Lucas
Listen on utube
WOW! Is she smoking hot!
Samantha is way amazing and what the heck....camera man totally ruined a special thing....sucks what ur sid
go be d'jazz girl
Not bad.
She has a great voice but IMO the backgound vocals are missing and that does not do the song justice.
The beauty of the original Barbara Lewis song was the monotone male backing vocals. Can’t quite explain why but perfectly beautiful.
The worst I have ever heard this song saying is by you by the way Bobbie Jean says hello
Good but too much of a departure..almost a different song altogether..
What ur doing....ur not the star and the horns aren’t either....u ruined this.
I like Barbara Lewis heck of a lot better
Dude mistake
Heeeere fishy fishy fishy!
Man that cover sucked...........What a disgrace to Barbara Lewis. If you're going to do covers don't slaughter it.
Shoobop Shoobop!
Uhhh, no, just no...
Noooo nooooo , its a horrible version.
very good but prefer the original with the other vocals in harmony. Good job.
