- Let's calculate the charge enclosed by a cylinder placed in a non uniform electric field. Since a cylinder is a closed surface, we can use Gauss's law to help us.

Net Φ = Φ₁+ Φ₂ + Φ₃
= -EA (θ = π) + EA (θ = 0) + 0 (θ= π/2) = 0
Thus , Q enc = Net Φ × ε = 0 × ε = 0
