    Lovely recipe but it's strange for me to have no spices inside μελομακάρονα have never had any that don't have cinnamon, clove and nutmeg in the dough. It's that deeply spicy flavour that makes them so lovely. And additionally having a stick of cinnamon in the syrup would be worthwhile...I suppose maybe people don't like the deep fragrant flavour of them?

    • @DimitrasDishes
      @DimitrasDishes  2 роки тому +11

      I agree with you. Love those flavors. All except the nutmeg 🤭 the topping is very flavorful but of course, feel free to add a teaspoon of cinnamon and a quarter teaspoon of cloves to the cookie dough for an extra kick. Cinnamon in the syrup is also delicious! Enjoy!!

    • @paolaarletty6525
      @paolaarletty6525 2 роки тому

      That’s a great question. As someone who is always altering baking
      recipes, I would say go ahead and substitute the olive oil for butter if you like or do half and half because I sense the olive oil will add a lot of “melt in your mouth” moistness and softness to the cookies. I assume any lightly flavored oil should work well in this recipe 😊 I will be trying to make these cookies, but will definitely cut out a lot of the sugar, I’m envisioning. Should still taste decadent, specially with the syrup poured on top.
