I fly out of Red Deer and late last summer my friend and I had the exact same experience. Final for 35 in a Mooney and saw what looked like a moose, turned out to be the same runway patch you saw! Tower said that they couldn’t see it either when we asked them. Surprised they haven’t put a note in the tower so the controllers know what’s up.
No way Ron! That’s too funny! I thought I sounded crazy when I said it looked like a moose. Glad you saw it too then. (Please don’t take my medical away TC). Lol link up with me on Insta and let’s keep in touch! I fly in there all the time!
I like BB GUMPS. Nice and simple and covers the major items. I was taught the classic BUMPFISCH. Brakes, Undercarriage, Mixture, Pitch, Fuel, Instruments, Switches, Carb heat, Hatches & Harnesses. Still found myself flying a Caravan and wasting time saying "Carb heat - err not required" to myself lol.
Thanks Jake! I appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed it! I find having the approach plate on there helps some of the new pilots follow along, especially student IFR pilots! :)
Thanks so much!!! That makes made my day hearing that! Well I’ve got lots more aviation cookies baking in the aviation oven so stay tuned!! Haha do you fly as well? :)
@@EvanLuft oh glad to hear that, i cant wait :) yes, i finished my cpl ( frozen atpl) in august last year, but covid made it almost impossible for low hour pilots to get a job. at least i am working as cabin crew on the A330 right now and have nice layovers on tropical beaches. better than nothing i guess. our chief pilot said i have good chances to get a job on the 320 fleet in the near future. fingers crossed. greetings from germany. stay healthy
thats is some cool stuff! where do you fly out of in germany??? That is a beast of an airplane! One day... one day... I'll maybe bounce one down the runway haha. Still havent been to germany but lots of other countries in Europe and Asia! I am currently studying for the ATPL. Omg its been over 14 years since my commercial and I feel like I am flunking already haha!
@@EvanLuft out of FRA :) oh good luck with the exam ! i passed it and you have a lot of real world experience, which certainly helps with the questions. will be a piece of cake for you. i am sure about that. so u are planning to fly the big birds?
@@jojojoman78 haha I will find out soon enough. Honestly, doing the flying I am now has opened a whole other world of aviation for me. The adventure flying aspect. I don't know if I could get this with any airline unless it was a northern airline. But eyes are wide open. Right now I look at every airplane as a "man I'd like to fly that at some point" haha
Great video. Love the IFR approach. I wonder how many others had the same experience before the airport did something about that big tar patch. Is it still there?
This is so badass!!! I can’t wait to take my discovery flight! I can’t to take my daughter on a flight one day when she’s older. She’s only 22 months old now but one day I bet you she’ll wanna fly too 😊
Hey Dean! Thanks a lot!! :) on this airplane they only have an ON and OFF position. They don’t have a HI and LOW idle position like in the king airs. :)
Watching you for a bit dude and I love the videos. Are you ever going to get ATC audio in the vids? I love the current set up of explaining the flight, but it would be sick to add in the audio when ATC talks with you as well. Again don’t lose the format you use it’s the best I have seen on UA-cam!!
Thanks a lot Callum! And yes, I have the setup ordered to record through the gopro :) so when I get that in I will start recording ATC. And on the first video I will call you out as the one that convinced me to upgrade my setup! :p :) thanks for the support man! :)
At 12:03 you mention that they are four blade props which made my brain.exe crash. After a quick reboot I realised why that happened. My brain could see that it was three blades spinning even though I consciously could not.
You are right! I made a mistake and forgot that this airplane only has three blade props. All of the other Cessna conquests that I fly actually have the four blade props on them :p this is one of the very few left that have three blades :) good eye!
When on approach you mentioned you had 4 blade props, but when you landed they were 3, was the end of the video from a prior landing at the airport? Nice looking Conquest by the way, My dad worked his way up to the 414A same cabin but slower
Actually, I forgot that this airplane has 3 blade props. I fly 2 other conquests with 4 blade props so I unintentionally said 4 blades in this video haha. All the Same footage from that flight. This airplane actually has the 3 blade though lol. :p
In a few of your videos, you mention doing a "BB GUMPS" check. Nothing wrong with that - I do something similar. However, what seems odd to me is the G and the U (you say they stand for 'gear' and 'undercarriage'). What are you doing differently between those two items? It's been about 25 years since I was in primary flight training, but anytime I've been taught to use a GUMPS check, it has always been "gas" and "undercarriage." To me, 'gear' and 'undercarriage' are both referring to the same thing (landing gear, a.k.a. undercarriage).
Thanks a lot!! Typically I can get 255 to 265 true at 22k. But pulled back for max range its 240 or so. Never need to do that though as it has range for over 1200 nm. Its a great airplane. This one has the three blade props actually in this video. Most of the other ones I fly have 4 blade props which are quiter too in cruise.
Awesome video!!! very interesting. What video editing program do you use? I would love to get into making a few good videos a year. I have a vans rv6 that i think i could make some interesting content with!
Great video! I’d have done the same thing - better to be safe in this critical part of the flight, the landing. Just posted a video of my flights into four US airports - one of them uncontrolled, which I don’t particularly like (one plane was landing from the opposite direction, and they were not on frequency!)
muy suave el aterrizaje muy bien, esperaba un campo corto para no pasar el charly pero esta bien. Soy prolijo y eso es mas valioso que la nafta jaja por lo menos en el primer mundo jaja
Yes, you are correct. And somehow through many years it has evolved in my brain to be g-gear and u-verify gear is down in the side mirror. But now that you mentioned it, I will probably find a way to incorporate that haha
You are correct! I don’t know why but over the past 10 years, I have somehow morphed it into gear haha. No idea why. One of those natural things that I didn’t realize happened hahah :p

The old bird doesn’t couple too well so…. Manually pitching with the pitch wheel on the Cessna 1000 autopilot. Haha I find it tends to chase the glide slope at times so I just manually fly the pitch.
Since it's a towered airport, would there have been time to ask tower what that was so you could continue the approach and land on the first approach? Good videos tho so thx for doing them
Thanks Rod! We actually did ask the tower but for some reason they were saying they couldn’t see anything on the runway at all. It was strange. Now we know why haha
