Great reaction and really interesting analysis. The Kami Band here were Leda Cygnus (blue guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar), BOH (6 string bass) and Hideki Aoyama (drums). The 'Mischiefs of the Metal Gods' intro is only played live since the Kami Band are just the live band. On the album 'Rondo of Nightmare' is a stand-alone song without the intro. On the studio recordings we only know for certain of Leda of the Kami Band being involved in some songs (he wrote the arrangements for another Su solo 'No Rain, No Rainbow' and he played bass and possibly guitar for 'Arkadia' ... there may be more I don't know of).
⚡ / 🔥 😱 🔥 That was great. I love the breakdown. This performance is my standard answer to anyone who says that BABYMETAL aren't really metal. : ) Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) has a penetrating clarity to her voice that makes it perfect for heavy music. Without having to boost her volume she can still be heard through the drums, bass and guitars. This song had it's world premiere the previous night. Su was just sixteen during this performance.
"Has he got sheet music up for this?" Actually, what you saw there was a display monitor/tablet. I do not know what was on it but I am guessing it was the set-list and perhaps a visual metronome for the click-track he was working from. Hideki IS a human metronome!! While it is common, as you noted, that when there are two guitarist one will take lead and the other provides rhythm, Babymetal is pretty famous for its duel Lead work. Leda and Takayoshi work very well together. Thanks for noting that!! More Babymetal Always!! Put your Kitsune UP!!
@@ChaseCarneson Yeah, a lot of Babymetal songs have backing tracks for certain effects (like the background piano in this song, or the "scream" they use for Su on "Iine"), so they drummer usually has a display where they can see what the backing track is doing. This is a random sidebar, but there's a very funny clip of another J-Rock band called Scandal, where they have a song with a tracked effect, and the Drummer forgot to count the tech off before the song and has to stop them to restart the song after a few seconds. Using backing effects seems very common nowadays. ua-cam.com/video/jzMpLiouxYE/v-deo.html
What he said. They obviously have a huge show (she came up thru the floor, Rose 10ft higher, & spun independently of the band), so there are tons of timing issues and manipulators, lights etc. My guess is Hideki starts the synchronized computer cues for each section of show. Playing 15/8, 5/4, 3/4, &4/4 in the same song, having a backing track makes it MORE. Impressive to me (I’m in loose bands that are ‘good’ at recovering after someone can’t find the 1 in straight 4/4). BabyMetal and Gacharic Spin (aka Doll$Boxx, chaotic mashup fun) helped me get over the hangup that it should all be live. I think the radio effect was prerecorded (tho the sound changes prove nothing), some of her screams, all harmonies, and sometimes the other girls’ parts are tracks too. (Did anyone mention that she’s 16, the other two 14, when they had this two night solo stand at Budokan, most prestigious venue, almost 15000 seats, with the best metal backing band available?!) But so what, the show is fantastic, and their individual talents all shine, no weak links, enhanced experience... took me decades to get over it tho, then I realized, EVery big band does it, it’s just a matter of extent, and whether it’s a coverup... those guitarists are not even the best in BabyMetal’s stable, Leda went first, Isao on 8strings can hang, and mini Mikio Fujioka R.I.P., who is golden guitarist(Ohmura)’s instructor, did Allan Holdsworth and Adrian Belew tributes. Boh on the 6string bass in the other hand, (except for slap? hmmm) is as good as it gets. Side note: Gacharic Spins founders went to school with drummer Hideki, and are asked to be host band for golden guitarist Takayoshi Ohmura’s annual birthday concert jam, which usually includes this whole “”Kami Band”, “band of gods” (Ohmura is also known for formerly being Marty Friedman’s sideman, and for his signature line of pink glitter ESPs) Mikio screen left (his last live band performance), Ohmura center, Boh & Hideki, ladies are Gacharic Spin. A little explanation as to where the other 2 girls are at. Su-metal has a total of 4 solo songs, 2 featured in each of the first 2 albums. And the other girls, Moametal and Yuimetal, collectively called Black Babymetal as a subunit of Babymetal, have 4 duet songs. Also, 2 in each of the first 2 albums. Black Babymetal songs are usually more harder and aggressive metal. During their earlier concerts, Su would perform 2 solos and Black Babymetal would perform 2 songs. Also, the Kami band would also perform 2 solo intros. Besides the "Mishief of Metal Gods ", the Kami band would also perform an instrumental intro to Catch Me If You Can, and more recently to YAVA! also. The Kami band also wrote an instrumental of their own written by Takayoshi Ohmura and Mikio Fujioka (who passed away in early 2018) called Hill of Wysteria. If you like the Kami band guitar work, then check this video out. ua-cam.com/video/1AfZH_xdIXE/v-deo.html
I love your breakdown critiques. Most of us BM Fans jump from one reaction to another. Your's provides musical technicalities l've never heard. Please do more! Subscribed!
The part where you say there's an effect added to her voice, everyone thinks that, I did too at first until another singer in a reaction pointed out that she has the mic pressed to her nose to mimic the lo-fi effect without her having to try and alter her voice at all as she sings, and then when she brings the mic away she's back to her piercing clearness.
@@saundrawilliams8037 Disagree . . This performance in the earpiece differs slightly from the studio track . . then there is actually is a slightly flat note in the chorus coming off the effect. That would indicate she does not use auto-tune (at least not here) .. Su is not often off pitch, but it happens (even to a goddess . . lol) . . but you really have to go looking for them. Here is Su's in ear mix. . ua-cam.com/video/nDao9r5knqc/v-deo.html . . .If she was using the backing track, why would it not be in her mix?
@@CHRISCONTEPSS I've listened to it again and still feel that there's a distinct difference between the sounds of each part, especially after she comes back in after with Yura yura. I'm not a sound technician or professional, so I could definitely be wrong...but as a singer, I just don't think its plausible (especially with the way she's got her head tilted). And again, it just sounds too clean. I know Su has the pipes and skills to sing the part and do it better live than not, but in this situation (and with hearing the ear audio)...still sounds like backtrack to me.
I like your reactions very much. I'm not a musician and English is not my mother tongue, so I don't understand all the technical things you say, but it's obvious that you explain really well, and because of that, I have a new look at these songs that I like so much., thanks a lot, Chase
On Su's voice in that interlude, it isn't an effect at all. I just watched a singer explain it. Go back and look at the mic, the angle and placement, it's on her nose, it's picking up sound through her nose. Pretty cool. What a talent.
Yup, that effect is probably one of the coolest things I've seen out of a vocalist in a long time and most people don't get it. The camera-work doesn't help; it's too far away to tell that she's pressing the mic to her nose to get that sound.
@@seouIsonyosound Yeah cause she does the same effect on the studio version. Duh. It's their hallmark; other than vocal stress because they are live, they are pretty consistent in their sound and they rarely deviate from the studio sound formula. And I am sure.
So far one of my favorite BM reaction videos! Your facial expression after ever Kami solo says it all. Su is 100% singing live but they do sometimes layer effects over her. One thing you might not know is that the kami's solo is actually a ritual to summon Su 😀😀😀
"Where are the other girls?" - In every concert there are songs where Su sings solo so the other two girls can take a break and there are songs where the other two girls sing and Su takes a break such as with GJ! Another great react full of very informative insight. As for pre-recorded bits, almost no one sings live without it these days and the labels are always tinkering with official videos that go out. I do hope you will continue to react/review Baby Metal. No two songs are alike. They like to experiment. Some of the stuff they have done: 1. Performed Pain Killer and Breaking the Law with Rob Halford of Judas Priest (the two side girls Yui and Moa played the guitar in Breaking the Law) 2. Performed Breaking the Law with Chad Smith from The Red Hot Chili Peppers 3. Performed Road Of Resistance with Dragon Force 4. Performed one of their songs Gimme Chocolate with Skrillex 5. Sabaton from Joakim Broden joined them on their song Oh Majinai 6. Alisswa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy and Thai rapper F. Hero joined them on songs on their recent album 7. One of the members of Korn snuck on stage to play with them. Can't wait for your next react. Would like to suggest Legend of 1997 Head Banger.
And Marty Friedman is an OG fan of theirs, so much that their guitarist was his lead guitarist. Here is the video with him and Takayoshi Ohmura (babymetal guitarist) sick guitar battle ua-cam.com/video/yNhN8f7lop4/v-deo.html
thank you for saying "one of the members of korn" it's very common that people say "they played with korn" and no, just one member from korn, they think that other dude was a member from Korn too but he isn't.
"Mischiefs of Metal Gods" (as is the correct title) is the intro by the Kami Band :) It is only played live and not part of a studio album. "Rondo of Nightmare" is one of Su-metal's solo songs, that's why Moametal and Yuimetal are not on stage.
nice. really like the way you analyze the technical stuff & pay attention to the details. not many's do that now days. so, thank you. basically "Mischief of Metal Gods Intro" is a ritual performed by the god of guitar, bass & drum to summoned the Metal Queen Su-Metal. bcoz in this song hers human soul been trap in the repeated nightmare. The Kami Band in this show are : - Leda Cygnus (1st guitar solo) in the past usually play with 6 string (like on this video), but now used 8 string. - Takayoshi Ohmura (2nd guitar solo) always play with 7 string. last year during the show "BM Metal Galaxy World Tour in Japan", both him & Leda was play using 9 string guitar. - B.O.H (6 string bass) - Hideki Aoyama (drum). his brother & father also drummer. his father (the legend Jun Aoyama) is consider as one's of the best drummer. no wonder why he's like "The Human Metronome",.. LoL the others two member (YuiMetal & MoaMetal) was resting backstage eating tomatoes & hamburger. and they performed duet as "Black.BabyMetal".
Board patched her through effect send and then out. Actually sounds like fx send level pot crossfade between the active channel and the FX loop, there's a bit of overlap where you can hear the change between coming off the effect. But she sings it.
They can have the computer running the click track to have another vocal track feed to the FOH through the board. That way, it will be consistent every time. But it works either way, very hard to tell but I feel that they used a vocal track, the transition was too good.
one the reason why me like Babymetal sound specially Su vocal because she had the talent of the " Old School Vocalist " type , you know ... a vocalist that can sing without any help from modern tools. one day if they want to release the Unplugged or the Orchestra version of their songs their fans will goes wild .... literally.
> one day if they want to release the Unplugged or the Orchestra version of their songs their fans will goes wild .... literally. I just say it: "Akatsuki - unfinished version"...
YES! I've been waiting for this one. Thanks for another great reaction/analysis! Babymetal is an absolutely excellent band! I think some people take what they're doing as a gimmick, which is a real shame, because there is so much real talent there. Other musicians have collaborated with Babymetal, and they've always commented on how professional they are. I would recommend you check out more Babymetal. I'd really like to see "Headbanger" (Live Legends 1997) and "Catch Me If You Can". Those are really good starting points, though it's easy to give a huge list (so much of their catalog is fantastic)! It would also be interesting to see what you think of "Pa Pa Ya", "Distortion", "BxMxC", and "line!" because each one is absolutely unique.
Really enjoyed how you break down the song and explain whats going on. Great reaction. Hope you do many more babymetal reactions. They never dissapoint. 👍
Moa and Yui are just resting. They will have just spent a while intensively dancing. When they did Black Baby Metal that gave Su a chance to rest up, as did the Kami Band’s intro.
Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar) said this song is most difficult among Baby Metal songs play with. He thinks Sue metal(singer) is seriously genius singer, because she sings perfect even such difficult song.
Great reaction, Chase, thank you! Babymetal uses backing tracks in many of their songs for keyboards (both piano and synths), percussion, growls and sometimes even for the 3rd guitar. Also there are some pre-recorded voice harmonies, screams and in this case the effect-overlayed vocals. But from what I've seen (and what I like a lot) Su never tries to trick you with that, she may pretend she's screaming/singing just for the show but then she usually takes away her mic or stops lip-syncing (like in this performance) before the pre-recorded sound actually ends. And still she may scream for real in some other song. Regarding your further Babymetal reactions I have a small list of suggestions: _Headbanger_ (Live 'Legend 1997' 2013): ua-cam.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/v-deo.html _Ijime, Dame, Zettai_ (Live at Sonisphere Festival 2014): ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html _Akatsuki_ (another Su's solo song, Live at Budokan 2014): ua-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/v-deo.html _Kimi to Anime ga Mitai_ (Kiba of Akiba cover, Budokan 2014): ua-cam.com/video/Tl1URUWFsO4/v-deo.html These are quite old performances but UA-cam tends to block their newer live videos. And best Babymetal is live Babymetal, not only for the show but sound wise also.
That version of Kimi to Anime go Mitai is a little pearl, I love it, all the girls did incredibly well in that song, both with the singing and dancing parts.
Cool that are you diving into some more technical stuff. I love Takayoshi Ohmura, the second guitarist. He does not only have incredible technical abilities (you‘ll have to check out his picking technique at some point), but also a great feeling for tone and melody. I like how he moves his leg along with his bending right at the beginning of his solo part, it shows that he really feels it. And I love his looks as well, he is both handsome and badass looking in his facepaint (saying this a heterosexual male). I‘m pretty sure the vocals in that quiet middle part are prerecorded, as are the piano and synth sounds. Personally, I‘d prefer her doing it live, even if it might sound less perfect. One thing that really struck me only after dozens of times of hearing the song is the insane rhythmical correlation of the vocals and the piano during the beginning of the second verse (starting at 10:56 in your video). I‘m sure that must be hard to do for Su. BTW, there have been leaks of what seems to be her ear monitor tracks, they feature a voice that counts her in when there are rhythmical changes etc coming up. Pretty interesting to me (no idea if that’s a common thing when playing to a click track). The song is their darkest one lyrically, it’s about a person being trapped in a nightmare. They feel something coming towards them through the darkness and try to hide, but in the end (during that quieter part mentioned above) they give up and ask the mysterious presence to at least reveal itself once before the end. It may be my favourite song. The melody is dark but hauntingly beautiful, and the music supports the atmosphere perfectly, as do Su‘s emotional vocals. I can feel the desperation in her voice at the end. Needless to say that everyone else’s performance is pretty flawless as well. Fantastic song! BABYMETAL have a few Su solo songs and a few that feature only the other two girls on vocals, they call the latter „Black BABYMETAL“ (at least until Yui‘s departure). This allowed them to get a breather at some points during the shows. Perhaps it’s the reason why their shows seem to have gotten shorter since Black BABYMETAL is no more.
Excellent work mate. Finally someone who actually does some analysis and genuine 'reaction' rather than just say 'that was awesome!' Some proper thought and communication into why you thought/felt what you did. Great stuff.
I really appreciate all the technical aspects you are pointing out in your reaction videos and that you are picking up on all the little details. Keep up the great work, you're quickly becoming one of my favourites to watch. If you'd like to see another Su-metal "solo" performance, you should check out Akatsuki: ua-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/v-deo.html. Or, if you feel like seeing a Black Babymetal performance (which is the other two girls without Su), maybe Onedari Daisakusen would be a fun one: ua-cam.com/video/VQ9qBj_KqR8/v-deo.html Either way, great job mate.
Great reaction and analysis again. Thanks! Yes, the "Mischiefs of Metal Gods" intro is great and showcases pretty well all kami band members skills. "Rondo of Nightmare" is what we call a Su's solo, so Yui and Moa are taking a well deserved rest in the backstage. My suggestion for today... I feel like... "Arkadia": ua-cam.com/video/7wgOVFc1z-8/v-deo.html Enjoy!
Just a little addition: one of these 2 links is better in audio and video quality than the YT's one: bittube.tv/post/3ffe669a-a514-4f14-b064-0c1f0a337792 streamable.com/izrjcn
"The waning moon shines bright, but there's a gloom of rampant madness. I hear laughing all around. It bares its fangs and its eyes gleam. There's no escape. It flickers, appearing and disappearing in my mind. A nightmarish rondo keeps repeating. The light of dawn is so far away, I have no choice but to run through the darkness." Hi Chase! Good reaction! Rondo of Nightmare is a song about a girl trying to escape from... something. We don't really know what it is, and part of the song is that we never really find out. When Su puts her head down and sings softly she's pleading with, whatever it is, to at least show itself before she perishes. As with all nightmares it never gets resolved. Su has two solos on each of the first two albums, while Yui and Moa (as Black BABYMETAL) have two duets on each of the first two albums. They do this so that during performances they can each give the other a break. The "Mischiefs of the Metal Gods" intro is not on the album or part of the song, it's just something they do live. Usually during live performances there is somewhere for the Kami's to play solos. Before "Rondo of Nightmare", "Catch Me If You Can", and recently "Kagerou" is usually when they'd do it.
I love the "technical" approach you have, especially for the guitarists! Thanks for that little retrospective. Definitely gonna subscribe. What or who you didn't see in that performance was Mikio Fujioka (R.I.P.). He was known as a guitar virtuoso. He regularly switched with Leda Cygnus, die guy who had the first solo. He was technically one of the best ones you'll see anywhere in my opinion. You should also watch Akatsuki (ua-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/v-deo.html), there's super awesome musical and vocal stuff in the live versions. Amore is also pretty awesome vocally and musically, but there's no live version up on UA-cam as far as I know. Only compilations. The same can be said with Tales of the Destinies. I saw in other comments that your Road of Resistance video got taken down, that's always my first recommendation. No Rain, No Rainbow is pretty cool, that's probably the slowest Babymetal song (ua-cam.com/video/pDgqo6fcliY/v-deo.html). If you want to delve more into the black metal/death metal part of Babymetal you should listen to Sis.Anger (ua-cam.com/video/BZLZcoWZKN0/v-deo.html), which is by Yuimetal and Moametal, without Su. It's probably the hardest song if you exclude Babymetal Death, which was mostly used as the intro song, because of the similarities in Japanese pronounciations of death and desu. And then there's The One (ua-cam.com/video/TZRvO0S-TLU/v-deo.html) which is their anthem to their fans. But it's in English and I think that because she didn't speak the language very well at that time she can't really make use of her complete repertoir because she's not 100% comfortable with it. But the show to the song is always the awesomest. From the new album I would suggest Starlight, which is a tribute song to the aforementioned guitarist who died in an accident, but there's also only fancams and studio version on UA-cam, because it's so new and they want to sell BluRays and DVDs. To your "she got some power" comment: When the management "hired" the Kami Band they asked the Producer if they should play a little quieter for her. And the producer simply said "give it all you got". Apparently the band was pretty impressed by little 14 year old Suzuka when they heard her perform with them, because she effortlessy sang over them. To the question of the recording: that was recorded. She "skips" these melodic parts often (sorry, don't know the real term). The parts where her voice is altered or the part in Gimme Chocolate with the "Too, too late, too too late, P, P, come one!". Don't know why they do it, probably to have the song as much on the album version as possible? She could easily sing these parts live.
I'm almost 100% certain that the second pre-chorus is lip-syncing cause it sounds exactly as in the studio version, but they don't really try hiding when they do it. I'd love to see you react to Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere in 2014. It's one of their best song instrumentally speaking imo, and it's a very fun and emotional song. The title translates to something along the lines of No More, Bullying, Forever.
I would agree with you, but then at the same time, if you look carefully you can see her wording the words. In that position, I would think she wouldn't bother to try because it is so difficult to see her lips and face. If you were there watching it live, there would be no way to see if she was lip-syncing, so it would be kind of a wasted effort on her part. It COULD be that they used this live recording AS the song in the studio version and just did some minor changes here and there. Regardless though, it is an amazing song, and she is in my mind, one of the most talented singers today. I'm always excited to hear and see new material from Babymetal.
@@jeremyboynowski3784 I hope we're talking about the same part first of all. I mean the part where everything is blue, she tilts her head down and you hear this cool effect on her voice. That audio is from the studio album, and this show happened soon after the album came out. I don't mind it btw. I think I was just informing the reactor. She doesn't lip-sync much currently and it's only for some cool vocal effects. The bridge and outro of Gimme Chocolate is another example.
@@aamiw99 yes that is the part I am referring too, although I didnt realize that the studio recording had already occurred. However, I still find it strange that if you look carefully while her head is tilted you can see her wording the words. Also, I did not mean to imply you are showing Su any disrespect or slight. I know pretty much as a fact that all of us fans are hugely protective and respectful of anything she does.
@@jeremyboynowski3784 yes, but wording the words with her lips without actually saying them out loud while recorded audio is playing is literally what lip-syncing is. I'm just basing what I'm saying on the audio, which is 100% the studio audio. They used to all lip-sync at the start of the band too, then Su started singing with loud playback, and then to whatever we have now which is pure awesomeness.
I do not know for sure if Su is singing the quiet part live or not but I assume she is. With added vocal affects of course. The reason I assume she is singing it live is because, normally during recorded parts, she moves the microphone away from her face to make it clear that its playback. Plus there's no reason she can't be singing it. I am no expert so I definitely don't know that for sure.
She is, just mic effects on it. She is fully capable of singing it and a recording would be worthless, why wasn't time on the timing of a recording when she can just do something she can easily do on command live.
@@jason7120 I think so too. Not being an expert, I go with a general rule. If I, a terrible singer, can sing it then Su, a professional, should be able to sing it. :)
@@jeffschreifels8651 She is capable, but I am pretty sure that is a recording. There are other times they use recordings like the opening scream of Ijime, Dame, Zettai (if listen it is always exactly the same), and Babymetal Death is all recording as well. They don't need to do this because Su is easily capable, but for some reason I am pretty sure they use recordings in those instances.
Oh man I love watching guitarists get into Babymetal. The Kami Band is insane. They have multiple members that rotate through, and have unfortunately lost one of their members recently (RIP Mikio). Takayoshi Ohmura (the second solo) is actually the lead guitarist for Marty Friedman's band, so you know he's got chops. If you liked the solo, check this out: ua-cam.com/video/MSuhBPl_laM/v-deo.html
Really glad you reacted to this, you have better reactions than most, because you are knowledgeable about it. As they say: play to the song. Yes, Babymetal is a live experience, doesn't matter if it's a big show like this or a stage at a festival without any special lighting, etc. They bring it live. If I had to make a suggestion: Tales of the Destinies is the most complicated Babymetal song. I can give you a link, so you can react to how it was performed proper. But your reaction most not include the video itself, we can use a 'link&sync' method (you do a countdown and we open the video in an other window and we watch at the same time, if you stop and rewind/start again, you need to do a new count down for the 'sync'). Or the studio audio/abum version is possible too. Or a crappy 'compilation video' here on UA-cam, where you can hardly see much and will just be very confusing but their will be parts included from fancams and even other songs.
Best reaction and deep analize of performance, i would you suggest "Tales Of The Destinies" its another prog metal that i love, they are very similar to Dream Theater in there
That was a great react. Honestly LOVED how shocked you looked after each solo, but the best part was how much you broke down each aspect of the show. Lots of information given that someone like myself, a non-musician), really appreciates. I can hear that they're great and what they're doing is impressive but I couldn't tell you in a million years why. Lol gonna stop rambling, loved the vid
On the radio effect and your Q (13:13).. another reactor answered this by catching what most of us did not see right away or perhaps just too ignorant to tell. Su placed the mic right up her nosetrils, cup her singing hand around - very must like you demonstrated - as if singing through a tube. And voila! the mono effect with many of the frequencies is "filtered" thus resulting to that harrowing, mesmerizing voice variation. SU apparently produced that all by herself. SUpercool ehh?
Loved you insightful comments. Subscribed. I would actually love to hear your analysis of Tales of the Destinies, as it is very proggy, but maybe Ijime Dame Zettai is a better suggestion as it was the moment most of the metal community seemed to accept Babymetal and realised the talent behind the band and that they were here to stay. That one performance was a huge turning point for Babymetal.
To me that bit where she whispers does sound pre-recorded because of how different her voice sound in that part specifically, this concert has also some post-production so there's that as well. As for the band (they are called 'kami band') this is my favorite line-up, the first guy with dark blue guitar is Leda Cygnus and he has other bands and projects aside from Babymetal, the guy playing the golden guitar is Takayoshi Ohmura he has played with Marty Friedman and think he alos has other bands he plays with aside from Babymetal. The bassist is Boh and Hideki Aoyama is the drummer, and they are all very good and skilled. There's other members they use for the band depending on who's available for tours and stuff like that but this line up is what I think must people recognize and likes the most. The only notable member you don't see here is another guitarist called Mikio who passed away 2 years ago on an accident, he was also a regular member of the band very skilled and also very liked by the fans. The intro isn't part of the song and is listed as a separate track in the live album of this concert and they do often make this type of intros for other songs like 'Catch Me if You Can'. This song is a Suzuka solo, she has more songs like this one and some people prefer this style because it allows her to showcase more what she can do as a vocalist, it also gives a more serious and darker vibe as she has a powerful voice and much developed and with more body than the other two, whom to be fair only do back vocals. The other two members also have songs without Suzuka and while not having the vocal skills they can still hold their own when they are required to act as a duo. The three girls have enough charisma, energy and stage presence to perform in front of huge crowds so I think is clever they have different dynamics to deploy during shows. You get to see the girls perform with the kami band backing them up, then you get to see them perform separately and you also get to see the band having the spotlight for a bit. For other songs to react there's another Suzuka solo called Akatsuki, this song has strong power-metal vibes and the music and instrumentation is also very good and rich in resources.ua-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/v-deo.html Then for songs featuring the three of them Headbanger and Ijime, dane, zettai are also very popular and liked among the fans, like Babymetal classics so to say lol. ua-cam.com/video/P9miB6jKLRw/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html
Rondo is one of the Su solos. They don't tend to play them anymore, but they used to give Moa and Yui (when she was still part of the band) a song or two off and have Su sing Solo (ballad based songs with a more theater-like presentation), followed by Su having a song or two off and having Moa and Yui play black babymetal songs (playing a lot heavier on the cute side of things vocally with some killer crowd interaction). It might have been a way to give the girls a break so they could catch their breath while avoiding doing an intermission type break, nowadays they just do the trio songs for the 45m-1.5 hour shows (depending on venue). They are honestly the most fun band I've ever seen live, the fan base is incredible. Mischiefs is an intro that they put in front of songs in their live shows, it is not on an album unfortunately. They do have two mostly instramental based songs on album though ("Babymetal Death" and "In the Name of." Babymetal Death is a pun based introduction song ('th" isn't a sound in Japanese and so they mispronounce 'desu' (for this purpose translating to 'I am') to make it sound like death. In the Name of is a song introducing the 'dark-side' of babymetal from the Apocrypha storyline. If you can, always watch live versions of their songs, the energy is amazing, plus they don't get super over produced (a problem I have been finding in Metal in general on albums). There is also a clear progression in Su's voice that is fun to see.
Thank you fr the 'desu' comment. I had to do a whooooole bunch of searching around to figure this out. I think part of the problem is that if you turn CC on it mis-translates it as 'death' in English. Euro-centric fans are used to "I am (name)" where some? / all? Oriental languages use "(name) I am". Similar to the practice of using surname before given name e.g. Mori-sensei addressing Su as Nakamota Suzuka.
Since they originally come from the Idol scene, there is a lot of prerecordings going on with the two other girls. Su herself sings live as far as I know (maybe not in some really old videos). Su is amazingly talented, but remember she is very young in a lot of these videos. Now that she is a bit older her voice grew and now the talent and hard work is coming through more and more. I personally like it more when she sings alone, but thats up to tase I guess. You can see more of her vocal prowess in No Rain No Rainbow which I absolutely recommend. Also PaPaYa is more recent and very interesting (and WILD). PaPaYa actually was my personal introduction to them. I am fairly new to Babymetal myself, so if I say anything wrong here I hope someone corrects me EDIT: I personally dislike the live videos in the UK where they are very young, the audio is kind of shitty and Su's voice is better now than it was in 2014(?). I always try to find recordings of more recent shows.
I don't agree with this at all. Su could always sing. She's no more less live now than she ever was. She was always 95% live. What does the UK have to do with it? I think you need to watch this. Suzuka Nakamoto - Voice Evolution (2006 - 2019) ua-cam.com/video/9cw27bQ9zv4/v-deo.html
Are you talking about ijime dame zettai live at sonisphere 2014 ? C'mon, she nailed that song there ! The only shitty audio is Glastonbury and it was 2019.
@@autohmae - Ahh, you're probably right about that. I didn't think about backing track. But she did a lot more dancing back then. It wasn't an issue of ability. If she ever sounded bad it was on the album tracks. Not live. Sure she sounds better now. But it's pretty much what i would expect from how she sounded at a very young age. She always was a great singer for her age. A lot of her improvement has simply been her vocal chords maturing.
really digging your channel. Your knowledge of music and actually giving feedback about the song puts you above so many reactors. Babymetal is incredible. I have 3 suggestions for your next song, sis anger for a yui and moa duet, megitsune for all the girls, or akatsuki live for more solo su greatness. keep the videos coming.
love your reactions, i like your enthusiasm of the music and song structure, babymetal astounded me when i first saw them and you have lots more to come. Id really like to see your take on muse or early genesis.
What an analysis! Definitely subbing. I recommend Road of resistance live in Japan. It’s a collaboration between Babymetal and Dragonforce’s guitarists
A hauntingly beautiful heavy metal waltz. If you want to see some time signature fun, check out Tales of the Destinies, BABYMETAL's homage to Dream Theater's Dance of Eternity, which has 108 time signature changes. ToTD one ups DT by adding overlapping time signatures, vocals, and dance. Would be particularly fun to do them back to back to compare, but would be a long video.
This song is off their first album. Keep in mind that when they were recording their first album, they were very young. In their early concerts, they performed that first album in its entirety. Off that first album Rondo of Nightmare and Akatsuki were Su-metal solo songs. Meanwhile Yui and Moa (Black BABYMETAL) also had two solo songs. This worked out great in their early live shows, as it gave each of the girls a break from this obviously exhausting performance. Interestingly enough, none of these "solo" songs are a part of their current set. I think the last time they performed this song live was in July of 2017.
In the older shows, with the original 3. Their sets included solo songs from Su, and duo songs from Yui and Moa (aka Black Babymetal). Powerful solo ballads from Su, and fun crowd hyping songs from Black Babymetal (see 4 no uta and GJ!). But with Yui gone (or the fact the girls are women now)... you rarely have those anymore.
That middle part, I believe that is a live vocal with an effect. I watched a differetn concert the other day, and the effect wasn't as well timed and held over a bit when she picked up the melody again. She has some amazing things she can do with her voice - should check out From Dusk to Dawn. She was only 16 here, her phrasing always impresses me.
hello from Japan !!! 😊 You understand Su is great,😊 Su is so big singer her voice is so wide and ddy in heart,💘 many people crying. hear Su voice, (I DZ, NR NR, etc.…)
I'm pretty sure the part where she sings quietly is a recording. Su just does a very good job at pretending to sing that part but it's not sung live. Generally speaking when BABYMETAL use lipsync they do not try to hide it. They want you and the audience to know it's playback. On the montage of this video they did a good job leaving you wondering wether this is live or not. Loved your reaction by the way Chase and already excited for the next BM :). The two girls are having a break while Su is on one of her solo songs. The two girls have their own duets where Su takes her own breaks and prepare for her own solos. It's a way to get a breather for the girls who are dancing and performing for up to 1 hour and a half. The part where Yui & Moa play their duets songs is called "Black BABYMETAL". BBM songs : Song 4, Onedari Daisakusen, GJ! and Sis Anger Su solo songs : Rondo of Nightmare, Akatsuki, Amore, No Rain No Rainbow
Wrong, but that's okay. She is perfectly able to sing it without imperfections. A simple mic effect is all that is needed. If you don't think Su is capable of reproducing this like she does with everything else she does, in many times a pure copy of what she has done before sorry to hear that. She can do a lot with her voice, always have she does it live with BxMxC throwing her voice to give an autotune effect like in the studio version.
@@jason7120 If you have ever watched the other night of this Budokan concert on the DVD you can clearly see that it's not live. I do believe she can pull off many great things, including this, live, especially if there is/was a voice effect timed for this moment. I'm not a BABYMETAL amateur at this point. But I do believe this bit is pre-recorded. It probably doesnt STRICLY HAVE to be, but it probably is. I'll be glad if you manage to prove to me that this is sung live. I see all reasons to believe it is not. As much as I love Su and as much as I know what she's capable of, that doesn't mean BM is flawless. Su is human unlike the lore says and she does have voice cracks here and there as any artist would. Just go have a listen to the Tokyo Dome Tales of the Destinies, the first time around when she has to go very high on the "destinies" part, her voice cracks hard. On the Bluray, in postproduction they obviously tampered with it. All I'm saying is, I don't know if this is sung live 100% but if I had to bet my life on it, I would definetly go the backtrack route.
@@jason7120 I am a big BM fan, but I agree with dem0n that that portion of the song is recording. I have noticed upon many listens that they tend to use recordings whenever there are parts of songs with big effects on it. Examples being this song, parts of Gimme Chocolate during the part they pretend to play the flute (or something like that), and in the time they played From Dusk Till Dawn.
Yes, it's pre recorded, like MOA's rap on Da Da Dance (she sings the chorus) indeed they don't pretend it's not, it's made pretty obvious and you can tell the difference. I think the only song where they use effects on the mic is Distortion, so far. She definitely sings Shanti without any added effect, which is amazing. In BxMxC the very high notes at the beginning are played on instruments, later in the song, she is the one singing them, again you can tell the difference, part of the chorus is pre recorded too. Unfortunately after the departure of YUI, MOA alone can do so much, indeed she choose to focus on her great dancing skills and while she still sings her parts especially in the older songs, SU has to rely on pre recorded tracks for background chorus here and there in the new stuff, BxMxC included. I think they still use some tracks with YUI's voice as a layer in KARATE.
i like their live videos much more as her voice is "deeper" as in the music videos, it sounds jut better for me xD maybe also because sumetal is just such an amazing singer, nothing against band maiden bud their studio songs sounds much better then their live concerts
12:56 you know that effect on her voice, that part is when she is in the well after being chased by something in her dream. Because she was chased she didn't have the energy to run anymore and hid in the well. So the effect on her voice is the sound she makes because of being in the well :-)
I really like her solo songs, they aren't as heavily choerographed and the songs give off different emotions than the rest, being more dark or sad while the songs with all three are usually happier. On the first two albums at least. Third didn't bless us with any solo performances but there's quite a few more serious songs still.
I remember Yui and Moa mentioning on one of the MV commentary tracks that Su improvs a lot of her solo choreo, and that they both really enjoyed seeing her moves.
@@0okamino And of course their choreographer Mikiko has gone on at length about what a special dancer Su is. "She doesn’t memorize choreography by counting the beat. Instead, she memorizes choreography by hearing the music. In general, people learn choreography by counting rhythms but she doesn’t. She’s got this groove in her body, like nothing I’ve seen before. And this groove comes from her intuition."
great reaction! too bad your road of resistance video got taken down. would be great if you do a reaction to the song Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014 next.
Interesting tidbit I found from another reactor to this song, at minute 12:19 of your reaction when she goes into that singing in a tube kind of sound, she is actually achieving that effect by pressing the mic against her nose! I'm sure the guy in the sound console does turn down the EQ because you can hear how it hits when she resumes normal singing. I thought you might find this interesting. My wife says hi (she is also from SA).
Excellent reaction and analysis, keep up the Babymetal. If you haven't done Akatsuki definitely give that a go, (live of course) it's another Su solo. Alternatively if you're looking for something SUPER complex, have a go at 'Tales of the Destinies' there's a live version at Tokyo Dome (crowd of 55k) or even the recorded version works too.
I love the concept of the band. The musiciands are amongst the best I've heard lately, specially the bass player. I get that being "Baby Metal", the vocalist would have the traditional nasal high pitched voice so popular in pop or tradicional Japanese music. But it IS the vocals that kill it all to me. It's like having Nightwish musicians playing and instead of Floor, Britney Spears is in the vocals.
Su solo.. Waiting for her solo career. Its gonna happen babymetal fans. Sorry. She has a beautiful voice. She's a teenager here. She's gotten even more powerful and polished. Saw them twice and her voice is amazing live.
Not only amazing, but sublime. Something about her voice transcends excellent technical or ultra powerful singing, something pure and fearless that connects her emotion to your heart....dunno even know how to describe, but all the fans are here because Su is just so special and made this thing work.
Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar here) did an analysis of the guitar rhythms of this song in one of his tutorial videos. Maybe someone has the link. If I find it I will add it below.
There are so many reaction videos out there on Babymetal songs, but yours is certainly one of the more rewarding ones. Some have a hard time getting past the whole kawaii metal thing, but experienced musicians quickly recognize the skills on display here, and you articulate the technical aspects very well. Very informative! You mention in passing that you appreciate prog metal for its use of tempo changes, right? Then you should absolutely give Tales of the Destinies a listen! It can be a bit challenging the first time you hear it, but you seem like just the right person to get what they are doing. Several of Babymetal's songs are sort of homages to various genres or bands, and that one is clearly dedicated to Dream Theater. It's an exercise in technical mastery, and a small miracle that they actually manage to pull it off live as well! When you say that this is the best vocal performance you have heard from Suzuka, I'm glad to inform you that this is far from her most impressive stuff. While many praise her free, powerful and flexible voice, her great range and clear diction (which is so excellent she often gets accused of lip-synching), I think she stands out more because of her versatility. There's a lot of basic J-Pop singing, of course, but her enka singing is remarkable, and the carnatic singing in Shanti Shanti Shanti really surprised me: ua-cam.com/video/gQnG_T7kbtY/v-deo.html Same thing with the pitch shifting rap in BxMxC. It's done digitally on the album (and sounds awful), but she does it herself for the live performances (and this during a 90 minute show that would probably exhaust your average marathon runner): ua-cam.com/video/wCDFzmrDYKw/v-deo.html And the very energetic and lengthy performances is also the reason why Rondo of Nightmare is a solo piece. There are a few songs throughout each set list where either Su or the other two girls get to catch their breath a little :-)
Well. The bands are Gods. Hell, it's in thier name. They're call Kami Band, literally translated to God Band in Japanese. You need to check out more Babymetal
She does the effect is not a recording, it is a technique that she applied to make it sound like this. I also thought that it was indeed that they placed his voice, or a recording, but it was not like that, in other videos a musician's reaction he also realized and commented that a technique that can be done without the need for effects. for the position of the microphone and something else I don't remember.
at first i thought that an effect was used on her voice in that quiet part, but if you look closely, she puts the mic right up to her nose and when she sings, her voice comes out kind of muffled. shes actually amazing.
I'm not sure of this but I read somewhere that in the part where Su sings the bit before that last chorus, she had the mic pushed up against the side of her nose (you can see that in the video) and she was actually singing. And that it gave the kinda lo-fi sound. Nasal resonance they said.
Gotta love Su's solo songs. They seem more mature than many of the other songs. Yui and Moa also have a few songs without Su. They're more child like but totally rocks. This makes their repertoar very dynamic and I love that about them. No songs are the same.
Doesn't seem to be too many people making other babymetal suggestions, so I'll offer some - 'Pa Pa Ya' - the official video is the album audio played over a real live performance of the song and is really good. 'Ijime, dame, zettai' - 2014 sonisphere live performance 'Legend of 1997 headbanger' - live performance of their song 'Headbanger' 'Akatsuki' - budokan live performance, the other su-metal only song from the same album as Rondo of Nightmares If you want to listen to a Moa-Metal and Yui-Metal song I'd suggest 'GJ' (not sure if there are any live performances on UA-cam other than a compilation) or 'Sis. Anger' - there is a live performance of this. And finally 'Iine' - not sure if there are any standout live performances to be found on UA-cam but the official video is really good, and a personal favourite song. None of these suggestions are particularly original, lots of other people have reacted to them, but there's a reason, they're the best performances. Glad to see you reacting to more babymetal, your understanding of music and astuteness is really refreshing.
Oh and yes that was Su singing that haunting little solo melody and not a recording. There may well be some effects on her voice at that moment but it is also a singing technique that you find a lot in Japanese music where the sound is pitched high in the nasal cavity as opposed to from being driven from the chest as it were. After the guitars and drums had the chance to show off their chops this is the singer showing off her own skill range.
While Su was wowing the crowd with her vocals, Yui and Moa were downstairs doing their homework
japanese schools no joke lol. gotta get some maths in.
What, really? Or was it a joke?

Awesome. Glad you enjoyed!
Finally an intelligent reviewer!

That was great. I love the breakdown.
This performance is my standard answer to anyone who says that BABYMETAL aren't really metal. : )
Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) has a penetrating clarity to her voice that makes it perfect for heavy music.
Without having to boost her volume she can still be heard through the drums, bass and guitars.
This song had it's world premiere the previous night. Su was just sixteen during this performance.

Actually, what you saw there was a display monitor/tablet.

Side note: Gacharic Spins founders went to school with drummer Hideki, and are asked to be host band for golden guitarist Takayoshi Ohmura’s annual birthday concert jam, which usually includes this whole “”Kami Band”, “band of gods” (Ohmura is also known for formerly being Marty Friedman’s sideman, and for his signature line of pink glitter ESPs)

No, it's recorded. On the live album you can hear her draw a breath while the effect vocals are still fading.
There's also a vid up from Andy that has Su's earpiece audio..its clearly backtrack.
@@saundrawilliams8037 Disagree . . This performance in the earpiece differs slightly from the studio track . . then there is actually is a slightly flat note in the chorus coming off the effect.
Thank you so much for the kind words and support, Lopez!
The camera-work doesn't help; it's too far away to tell that she's pressing the mic to her nose to get that sound.
are you sure? cause when you listen to the studio version they sound identical.
@@seouIsonyosound Yeah cause she does the same effect on the studio version. Duh. It's their hallmark; other than vocal stress because they are live, they are pretty consistent in their sound and they rarely deviate from the studio sound formula. And I am sure.

Some of the stuff they have done:

And Marty Friedman is an OG fan of theirs, so much that their guitarist was his lead guitarist. Here is the video with him and Takayoshi Ohmura (babymetal guitarist) sick guitar battle ua-cam.com/video/yNhN8f7lop4/v-deo.html
thank you for saying "one of the members of korn" it's very common that people say "they played with korn" and no, just one member from korn, they think that other dude was a member from Korn too but he isn't.
Sadly only in concerts up to 2018. From 2019 there are no more Black Babymetal songs to give SU a rest, so the concerts are a little bit shorter now

The Korn/baby metal concert was amazing I was there for it. There is even a small clip with him as he gets his makeup done.
THIS shows Su at her best. with a gothic rock opera style/ Wow! no one around like her. a unique talent.
Very much enjoyed your technical take on this. Great reaction and looking forward to more from you 🤘🦊🦊🦊🤘
Much more coming. Thanks for the support.
"Mischiefs of Metal Gods" (as is the correct title) is the intro by the Kami Band :) It is only played live and not part of a studio album.
"Rondo of Nightmare" is one of Su-metal's solo songs, that's why Moametal and Yuimetal are not on stage.
Kami means God/spirit/ghost, they were burial garments.
So it's the mischief of the band :-)
Su is a soprano with a C4 to G#5 and practices her breath control endlessly so she can sing and dance too.
nice. really like the way you analyze the technical stuff & pay attention to the details. not many's do that now days. so, thank you.
basically "Mischief of Metal Gods Intro" is a ritual performed by the god of guitar, bass & drum to summoned the Metal Queen Su-Metal. bcoz in this song hers human soul been trap in the repeated nightmare.
The Kami Band in this show are :
- Leda Cygnus (1st guitar solo)
in the past usually play with 6 string (like on this video), but now used 8 string.
- Takayoshi Ohmura (2nd guitar solo)
always play with 7 string. last year during the show "BM Metal Galaxy World Tour in Japan", both him & Leda was play using 9 string guitar.
- B.O.H (6 string bass)
- Hideki Aoyama (drum). his brother & father also drummer. his father (the legend Jun Aoyama) is consider as one's of the best drummer. no wonder why he's like "The Human Metronome",.. LoL
the others two member (YuiMetal & MoaMetal) was resting backstage eating tomatoes & hamburger. and they performed duet as "Black.BabyMetal".
Thank you for the support and such an awesome detailed comment. Appreciate it.
Chase Carneson has discovered the BabyMetal awesomeness.
👍🦊🇯🇵
I sure have 👌🙌
@@ChaseCarneson Absolute coolness.
Wait until you see them live yourself, they're awesome.👍
Board patched her through effect send and then out. Actually sounds like fx send level pot crossfade between the active channel and the FX loop, there's a bit of overlap where you can hear the change between coming off the effect. But she sings it.
Thanks for this. Makes sense. Appreciate the comment
That's live, easy for the FOH.
I think it's recording. The part sounds exactly like in the studio version.
Yeah, tape. Suu stops lip syncing just before coming back in with the chorus.
They can have the computer running the click track to have another vocal track feed to the FOH through the board. That way, it will be consistent every time. But it works either way, very hard to tell but I feel that they used a vocal track, the transition was too good.
one the reason why me like Babymetal sound specially Su vocal because she had the talent of the " Old School Vocalist " type , you know ... a vocalist that can sing without any help from modern tools.
one day if they want to release the Unplugged or the Orchestra version of their songs their fans will goes wild ....

Thanks, Dex. Really appreciate it. Much more coming soon.
Regarding your further Babymetal reactions I have a small list of suggestions:
_Headbanger_ (Live 'Legend 1997' 2013): ua-cam.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/v-deo.html
_Ijime, Dame, Zettai_ (Live at Sonisphere Festival 2014): ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html
_Akatsuki_ (another Su's solo song, Live at Budokan 2014): ua-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/v-deo.html
_Kimi to Anime ga Mitai_ (Kiba of Akiba cover, Budokan 2014): ua-cam.com/video/Tl1URUWFsO4/v-deo.html
These are quite old performances but UA-cam tends to block their newer live videos. And best Babymetal is live Babymetal, not only for the show but sound wise also.
Thank you for watching and supporting. Nice insight here.
Chase Carneson My pleasure! The amount and quality of analysis that you provide put your reactions to a rarely found level. Keep up the great work!
This is the best reaction I've ever watched, very detailed. can't wait for the next reaction, good job.
Really appreciate that. Thanks for the support.
Excelente! The Best song by BabyMetal! ...and She is singing on a platform 10 foot high!
Cool huh?
I really appreciate all the technical aspects you are pointing out in your reaction videos and that you are picking up on all the little details. Keep up the great work, you're quickly becoming one of my favourites to watch.
If you'd like to see another Su-metal "solo" performance, you should check out Akatsuki:

Thank you for being patient and supporting!
"Arkadia": ua-cam.com/video/7wgOVFc1z-8/v-deo.html

"The waning moon shines bright, but there's a gloom of rampant madness. I hear laughing all around. It bares its fangs and its eyes gleam. There's no escape. It flickers, appearing and disappearing in my mind. A nightmarish rondo keeps repeating. The light of dawn is so far away, I have no choice but to run through the darkness."
Hi Chase!
Before "Rondo of Nightmare", "Catch Me If You Can", and recently "Kagerou" is usually when they'd do it.
all hail our Queen!!!!!!!!!!!!
Catch me if you can is one that really shows off the chemistry of the girls.
Thank you so much for the support and awesome insight here. Appreciate it
Really cool reaction. I liked how you add in a lot of information that a lot of us who aren’t as knowledgeable of music might not catch.
Appreciate the support and glad you're enjoying them.
Again.. excellent reaction .. nice work.
Thank you so much 😀
Another Sumetal solo song you'd enjoy is Akatsuki. It's a brilliant display of her singing as well as the Kami bands abilities

I love Akatsuki, she puts so much energy in that song...
For sure. Thanks for the recommendations.
@@X1xone SU was just so good that we all thought it was recorded
She could easily sing that part, but I think they avoid using effects on their mics, at least they did with now an exception, Distortion.
Best reaction and deep analize of performance, i would you suggest "Tales Of The Destinies" its another prog metal that i love, they are very similar to Dream Theater in there
Oh nice one. Thanks for the support and comment.
lit and fire performance by kami band and su-metal
Nice one, Willem. Thanks for the support. I'll add it to the list for sure.
For other songs to react there's another Suzuka solo called Akatsuki, this song has strong power-metal vibes and the music and instrumentation is also very good and rich in resources.ua-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/v-deo.html
Then for songs featuring the three of them Headbanger and Ijime, dane, zettai are also very popular and liked among the fans, like Babymetal classics so to say lol.

Yeah me too. Thanks for all the detail. It's very much appreciated.
Is he ready for DEATH Legend 1997??
I think yes.
You have to let him know that DEATH is more performance art as there is no song and no singing.
dono mybe not yet :D
@@markyg236 no problem, because it is intentionally mispronounced it often gets misinterpreted.
I am fairly new to Babymetal myself, so if I say anything wrong here I hope someone corrects me
EDIT: I personally dislike the live videos in the UK where they are very young, the audio is kind of shitty and Su's voice is better now than it was in 2014(?). I always try to find recordings of more recent shows.
I don't agree with this at all. Su could always sing. She's no more less live now than she ever was. She was always 95% live. What does the UK have to do with it? I think you need to watch this.

@@Dragon-Believer I would say she has improved her breath control a lot in all that time.
really digging your channel. Your knowledge of music and actually giving feedback about the song puts you above so many reactors. Babymetal is incredible. Awesome. Thanks for the support and reccomendations, will take a look at those.
love your reactions, i like your enthusiasm of the music and song structure, babymetal astounded me when i first saw them and you have lots more to come. Id really like to see your take on muse or early genesis.
What an analysis! Definitely subbing. I recommend Road of resistance live in Japan. It’s a collaboration between Babymetal and Dragonforce’s guitarists
Thank you so much for the support. I actually had ROR up but it got taken down. I'll look at re-uploading
Not a Babymetal fan, but I like this particular song and intro. Great observations, I'm very impressed by your musical knowledge.
You understand Su is great,😊
Su is so big singer her voice is so wide and ddy in heart,💘
many people crying. hear Su voice,
(I DZ, NR NR, etc.…)
BBM songs : Song 4, Onedari Daisakusen, GJ! and Sis Anger
Su solo songs : Rondo of Nightmare, Akatsuki, Amore, No Rain No Rainbow
Suu actually stops lip syncing that verse early to get set up for the chorus to come back in. Can be seen more clearly from the original video.
The closest we got on Metal Galaxy was 'Kagerou', which used to be a solo song. : )
Absolutely love this reaction. Would be great if you did Akatsuki live Black Night.
Next song "AKATSUKI" live budokan black night too.
great reaction! too bad your road of resistance video got taken down. would be great if you do a reaction to the song Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014 next.
Will look at cutting it up so that it stays up.
Yeess
@@ChaseCarneson can you upload it somewhere else too? might be less of a hastle
I love your reaction and analysis!
I'm leaving a sub!
Appreciate that Ricardo.
@@ChaseCarneson
This is a sumetal solo, she has a couple songs solo, the other girls have also songs for them selves.
1997 death. I enjoy your commentary and analysis. I’ve learned from you.
Thank you 🤘
Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar here) did an analysis of the guitar rhythms of this song in one of his tutorial videos. Maybe someone has the link. If I find it I will add it below.
That would be awesome. Lookin forward to it.
@@ChaseCarneson here you go: ua-cam.com/video/jSziYQGH9Qg/v-deo.html
These drums, man. Come on, it's just sick. Hideki Aoyama must be running a marathon every single time he's behind the drums.
you didnt notice he is playing a 7 string .. great reaction!
There's a lot of basic J-Pop singing, of course, but her enka singing is remarkable, and the carnatic singing in Shanti Shanti Shanti really surprised me:
ua-cam.com/video/gQnG_T7kbtY/v-deo.html
Same thing with the pitch shifting rap in BxMxC. It's done digitally on the album (and sounds awful), but she does it herself for the live performances (and this during a 90 minute show that would probably exhaust your average marathon runner):
ua-cam.com/video/wCDFzmrDYKw/v-deo.html
And the very energetic and lengthy performances is also the reason why Rondo of Nightmare is a solo piece. There are a few songs throughout each set list where either Su or the other two girls get to catch their breath a little :-)
Well. The bands are Gods. Hell, it's in thier name. They're call Kami Band, literally translated to God Band in Japanese. You need to check out more Babymetal
5:14 "Of course..."
I love your deeply analytical reaction.
We are babymetal.
at first i thought that an effect was used on her voice in that quiet part, but if you look closely, she puts the mic right up to her nose and when she sings, her voice comes out kind of muffled. shes actually amazing.
Check out “Tales of the Destinies”. It’s basically a BabyMetal tribute to Dream Theater. Too many time changes to count, outstanding musicianship.
13:29 It wasn't a recording. If you listen carefully, you can hear where they mess up the timing just a fraction when removing the effect.
I'm not sure of this but I read somewhere that in the part where Su sings the bit before that last chorus, she had the mic pushed up against the side of her nose (you can see that in the video) and she was actually singing. And that it gave the kinda lo-fi sound. Nasal resonance they said.
excellent reaction, with a informative insight on music techniques with instruments.
Gotta love Su's solo songs. They seem more mature than many of the other songs. Yui and Moa also have a few songs without Su. They're more child like but totally rocks. This makes their repertoar very dynamic and I love that about them. No songs are the same.
Doesn't seem to be too many people making other babymetal suggestions, so I'll offer some -
'Pa Pa Ya' - the official video is the album audio played over a real live performance of the song and is really good.
'Ijime, dame, zettai' - 2014 sonisphere live performance
'Legend of 1997 headbanger' - live performance of their song 'Headbanger'
'Akatsuki' - budokan live performance, the other su-metal only song from the same album as Rondo of Nightmares
If you want to listen to a Moa-Metal and Yui-Metal song I'd suggest 'GJ' (not sure if there are any live performances on UA-cam other than a compilation) or 'Sis.
