This band.....this band are so elite and underrated at the same time!!!! Excellent musicians...Excellent vocals......Excellent songs.....and when I saw them in concert in 2007 jam...I mean really jam!!! Wow!!! Rare Earth are among the new gods of Rock n' Roll to me!!! No Doubts!!!!

Drummer Pete Rivera, the human metronome. I see you've reacted to Hey big brother. There is a great ( truly live ) video of this song performed at California Jam 1974 at the height of their popularity. I saw them at Hilton Coliseum around this time. My ears are still ringing. Thank you for your reactions to Rare Earth.
Got to see Rare Earth in concert , I think in 1972 or 73. Fantastic concert made even better by having The Doobie Brothers as the opening act. Definitely one of the best concerts I was ever at. Great memories!

Yes. This 45 RPM AM radio version gives you the sound, but it leaves out a bit - like the beginning, the middle, and the end.

Get Ready was the flip side of My Girl by the Temptations. On one side we heard Eddie Kendicks, on the other David Ruffin. In 1964, the Motown Sound coincided with the British Invasion
The long versiion of this is killer. Also Rare Earth was to the best of my recollection, the only white band ever signed by Motown Recoreds.

Rare Earth played at our home town summer fest in 2002 They were late showing up being behind schedule from a earlier gig they did that day and came at 11:30 pm on a Saturday night and absolutely crushed it !!!
I saw Santana, Savoy Brown & Tower Of Power in Fresno, on one stage, playing as one band. And to this day, I didn't realize what we witnessed that nite! We had too much drink, too much grass...that was a concert that was probably never repeated bc one band was filling in for another & a band was a Special Guest of the other band. But, it was rocking.

I saw Rare Earth many times and it was always a great show one the best live bands ever the crowd always had a great time the drummer Peter Rivera was amazing to watch live. He left everything on stage every time amazing.
You really haven't properly experienced this track until you have heard the live 20+ minute album version! It's the title track of their first Motown album and it takes up an entire album side. They actually first recorded the song on their great psychedelic pop album called 'Dreams and Answers' they cut for Verve Records just before Barry Gordy signed them to Motown and gave them their own subsidiary label! Pete Rivera is definitely my favorite drummer front man.
rare earth released it in september 1969. i was in high school when it came out. there is a longer version of this song by them. about 20 minutes long.

Doobs, there is an elongated version of this song which spans nearly 22 minutes, and well worth the visit. Playing drums and singing is like rubbing your stomach while patting your head. Few can pull it off. This dude pulls it off.

I was listening, and I realized you are right about that. I didn't even know what I had all those years really. Yes, I bought a lot of albums, and I spent a LOT of money on some great stereo equipment. But I didn't use that word UNIVERSE somehow. You gave me a different perspective on the music I grew up with... How did you do that? Anyway, I decided to buy ANOTHER pair of speakers. Hey Chod, this is the nephew of the founding member of this band. my uncle was the saxophone player and the one playing the tambourine with the big sideburns lol, I showed him about this video and he loved it and got a kick out of it especially Dee’s comment on his sideburns lol unfortunately he got to see this video right before he had passed away just recently his name was Gil Bridges thank you for acknowledging Rare Earth multiple times and we appreciate you and your wife! The album version was 20:21. The story, according to lead singer Peter Rivera, was that they had 30 minutes left on their recording session. Thus the redid this song with each person having a solo. Thus this song takes up one side of their first Motown lp. The label named the subsidiary after the group.
It's so hard to watch the short version after you've seen them live over the years..! first time back in San Francisco in 1975..! Another great show I was at was Miami in 1986 and Saw them in Lake Tahoe in the mid 90's Love them..!!

Glad to see you showing her the good stuff. Rare Earth is one of those bands that reminds me of late childhood and early teens. Great time to grow up. I am going to adk to expose her Frank Marino. Not his blistering guitar craxiness, but thi song is a cool mellow jazzy tune. It's called It's Begun to Rain. The video is from his dvd Live at the Agora Theater. The video was recently re-teleased on youtube. You willime this very good jazzy tune. It shows how well Frank can play different genres. Try it out!

Great song, first was a hit for the Temptations back in 1966.
As for crowds just sitting and not moving with the music, most of that was from European TV shows where they were told to just sit and listen to a lip synced performances.
