Yes! We can’t help it. We were spoiled for choice. Concerts were a way of life in the 60’s & 70’s. God, it was great. 🤘🏼

You picked the absolute shortest ever cut of this song. Too bad...You need to go and do the album version. It takes up the entire side of the 33rpm record. This is a jip!

When I saw that the length of this video was only 8:17, I knew that you were listening to the heavily edited AM radio version of this cover of "Get Ready". On the original, 1969 studio album, this track lasted over twenty one minutes! It starts with a long, meandering, slow section with a sax solo played through an octave divider, before going into the part you review here, complete with fake applause (this was a studio album, not live). In the middle, there is a bass solo followed by an organ solo, guitar solo, sax solo and finally a long drum solo before the outro and end of tune. It takes up the whole B side of the album! So, you are reviewing a highly watered-down version of the psychedelic original.

I watch SO many reactions from young people that say, "Man! They're singing through a straight mic with no autotune and they play their own instruments!"
More and more I think they want instant gratification and take shortcuts rather than take the time to learn an instrument or perfect the hardest instrument on the planet they were actually born with.
    The human voice.
And if you can't sing on pitch or harmonize without autotune?
    Stay the hell home...

Personally, my favorite Rare Earth album is the double disc live In Concert album also known as the backpack album. The CD's of this are usually produced in limited runs and can get pricey. Also, there are some complaints that a later re-mix of the original is poorly done and sounds muffled. I got the vinyl when it first came out and wore the grooves off.

Rare Earth was a motown band. The linemen (I was both center and defensive tackles--small school) used to sing Rare Earth's "I just want to celebrate another day of living " on the way of the practice field. Sounded rather mournful from us. By the, the drummer and the lead vocalist, was the same guy..also a live recording!

refreshing platform for music reviews. A wonderful reaction with a full discourse on the salient points of music--in case of RE's GET READY. Most reviewers will avoid a full on dialogue and just go with Great, or I don't like it, or it was "dope," etc.
You also identified the non-existence of instruments backing today's music. It is 'tragic.' Actually, I hate it. But, I believe the music backers are partly responsible for that.
Thanks again for presenting this psychedelic soul version of the Temptations great hit. I'm happy you didn't provide the 43 minute version. Way too long.
Keep shining. Stay inventive, keep honing your craft. Already a favorite.

FYI Wilburn, Peter Rivera, the drummer sings lead vocals on all of Rare Earth's tracks and founded the group in 1960 under the name, The Sunliners in Detroit Michigan then changing it to Rare Earth in 1968
The tambourine you mentioned hearing in the song was played by flute and saxophonist, Gil Bridges.
Also Rare Earth has the distinction of being the first White act signed by Motown Records.

Love your attitude towards this old music,..yess more instruments,..even things like a cow bell,..that weren't originally made to be a musical instrument,..or something as simple as a harmonica,..kazoo, used in blues,..rock, country,. added as a boost to a song,..look at the songs Stevie Wonder did,..Jethro Tull,..Blackfoot,..the harmonica just made the music all that more enjoyable,..and in school, when I went,..kids took it seriously,.learning to play the trumpet, saxophone, even the tuba,..there were so many bands with horn sections,..good horn sections in they're bands,..then the people who stood out, Miles Davis,..Charlie Parker, before my time,.but some of those bands grew up listening to him,..then came David Sanborn around my time,..and Quincy Jones,..horns just gave a song that sizzle,..that spice, and classy,..with groups like Rare Earth, Earth Wind and Fire,..funk,..lovely that you young man are taking a deeper dive in this music you use to hear in just passing?,..when you were a kid,..do pass it on to your kids,...your right, nowadays your kid won't be exposed to music like this otherwise if all they had to rely on was the radio,..only other place to hear a trumpet or tuba, or oboe, saxophone,(real, not computerized)school band, or Symphony,..only if your a classical music buff or a studying violinist,..you have to be interested and seeking it out,..you know?,..keep going..try Celebrate by Rare Earth too,.I do remember hearing Get Ready,..but don't think at the time I saw them performing it, heard it on radio,..and when Celebrate first came out I so thought they were a black group,..just so much funk,..round that time War was jamming on the scene, Carlos Santana,.on the heels of Sergio Mendes, Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass,(again HORNS) Chic Corea, Rip, the afro/latin, funk, jazz fusion,.I guess,..these groups just killed it,..we had never...NEVER heard anything like it,..and I so want the next gen. to get exposed to this music,..Godspeed, Peace ✌
