Maybe I missed it, but I would also add to smell the oil on the dipstick to see whether it smells like gasoline if gasoline has drained into the oil from the carburetor
Nice video, Jeremy you should make a video of you taking the Goat to Chickanic's shop for yall to fix that oil leak around the dipstick base together. Then you can say your mowers been Chickarized. Ha!!!
Good advice and a good video. The old saying " The cobbler's children go barefooted ". My goodness, a Master Small Engine and Mower Mechanic mows his yard with 20-year old Murray ! 🙄
Hey Mowermedic, good stuff here! Thanks for posting. Hey, here in my neck of the woods, riding mowers (all mowers for that matter) get crapped on every day. When the grass (uhh, weeds) get high enough, most folks look for their old rider, throw a little gas in the tank, never ever check the oil, crank 'er up, and blow off the yard from 12 inches down to 3 inches. Then it gets rolled out back somewhere and abandoned (no cover from weather) until the yard is 12 inches high again. Same story....if it starts, fine. If it doesn't, junk it and go get another used rider somewhere on CL, or FBMP, or where ever. It's sad how lazy and neglectful the populace has become.
good point , when it needs a batterie it usually means it hasn't run in a while and if it hasn't run in a while it's probably a piece of junk , if they don't run all they are worth is scarp metal prices
they aren't made to admire , i have 1 acre of hills , ruts and ditches you should see the hell mine goes threw , he was riding that mower like a Sunday driver compared to me
Didn’t you do a video on spindle bearing wear? And something about a spindle with a zerk not actually lubricating the sealed bearing inside and how to correct that by taking off the ‘internal’ bearing seals? If so, I would love to see it again but can’t find it. Any help locating it?
Some other guy did a UA-cam on that. He believed that the seals don't have to be removed. He showed it being lubed, the grease still go into the bearing.
How about testing if all gears are working go for ride shift all gears including the reversed . Also how does the cutting goes . I had friend he told me . He purchased a used lawn mower the seller give ready cause the mower wasn’t doing the cutting right. Reason why . Some one install the blade the wrong way. So he almost gave it away almost for nothing what a deal 🍀👍
This is all good info, but keep in mind…. If your going to look at an old riding mower that’s $500 or less, you need to expect issues, it’s not going to be a new $2000+ machine. If a buyer beat me up that bad over a cheap rider, I’d ask them to leave & tell them it’s not the mower for them. 🤷♂️
I make a list of the parts and cost for them, that way they see it’s worth the price I’m asking 😊😊😊 I don’t try to make a sale, It’s up to them and the bill for the new battery 😮
Absolutely! If the machine runs/drives well, it does not matter if it’s 2,5,9 years old or whatever. Condition is what matters. These are not a year-round used item!
May I reply? 😄 in my opinion if you have big area and want to get done quicker, and budget is not an issue then buy a zero turn, if you don’t wanna spend extra money and don’t have huge yard and wanna take your time mowing then buy one with steering wheel, I personally prefer the ones with speeds like the guy in the video said, I get tired with those pedal drive mower that you need to keep pushing in the pedal yo go forward, with the speed transmission you just put in the preferred gear and go.
I buy them just for engine Rest don’t matter to me It’s parts AllWAYS looking for JD to rework and sale Junk mowers are 40 bucks if I see a chance engine rebuildable
Dude I don't want one to cut grass with ,I want one to use to take my little girl dog to the park down the street from me but it's to far for this old 70 year old man to walk . I don't care whether it has blades or not,and in fact I would prefer that it didn't have cutting blades.
Cool , I still mow most weeks with my 1971 Sears SS14 . I hope to get a few more years out of it .
🎉😊
I got a little excited and bought a used riding mower from an estate sale. A Bolens mower. Just starting to tune it up for its first use.
That was a good buy and it will run for years. I like the old Murray
Great video Jeremy. This should really help people that watch it before they go to look at a used mower they are thinking about buying!!
Great video as I'm buying a ride on mower your advice really helped thank you so much

Wow, for someone that works on mowers for a living, you beat the absolute F*** out of that poor thing!
they aren't made to admire , i have 1 acre of hills , ruts and ditches you should see the hell mine goes threw , he was riding that mower like a Sunday driver compared to me
Um no I don’t
A cobblers shoes are never repaired! Too busy working on customer shoes, or the saying goes.
does your pristine mower take you out for dinner before it *'s u too?
My kinda shopper,atta boy
Great tips to look outfor thanks a lot that helps by the way do you raise chickens to I heard a lot of them🐓🐓
If you are going to someone's house to look at buying a mower, YOU'RE the customer, and THEY are the seller! That drove me nuts

I was sure that it was MowerMedic1. That’s where I usually get all of my learning !!!
Dennis Coffey did a video on that.
Stevessmallenginesaloon did a video on it

Come on... Let's do it
Getting old.. lol
Is there a course that I can take in the uk that will help me to fix lawnmowers and weed wackers and other small engines
Dang! Now i need to mow
9:10 we can see the steering wheel column is kissing the belt, just barely touching but still a kiss🤣
A brand new machine does this
I make a list of the parts and cost for them, that way they see it’s worth the price I’m asking 😊😊😊
I don’t try to make a sale,
It’s up to them and the bill for the new battery 😮
Coming from someone who flips tractors, please DO NOT ASK HOW OLD a tractor is when going to buy one.
Why not? It might demonstrate that the unit may not be worth what they think it’s worth.
Absolutely! If the machine runs/drives well, it does not matter if it’s 2,5,9 years old or whatever. Condition is what matters. These are not a year-round used item!
Hour meters are your friend
Keep it simple and service it
Keep it in side
Very good video. Thanks. But using a bungi cord to hold the blade cover open is dangerous as hell!
We are looking to buy a new lawnmower. In your opinion, which type mower would you recommend, the type with the steering wheel or the Zero turn ?m&

@@josem.2909 Thank you, is there a brand that you think that is better than the other
No sir they all pretty much are made by Ayp. Or Mtd
It’s just like the automobile market now getting a lawn tractor with a manual transmission is few and far between
I buy them just for engine
Rest don’t matter to me
It’s parts
AllWAYS looking for JD to rework and sale
Junk mowers are 40 bucks if I see a chance engine rebuildable

Let the customer know about the carb gas leaking? I though we was the customer.. NP!
Absolutely
Once you realize he uses the term “customer” for “seller”, it makes more sense.
Crashed???
Never believe anything they tell you
Look for fresh silicone. Bad engine
Look at deck for wrapping
