@@rickferr1546 Go to "Consumer Reports", the annual April car edition. Check out the car with the best frequency of repair record over the past few years. I'll save you the trouble. It's Mazda.
@Twilight 8368 their cars are very reliable and have good fuel economy. In the latest consumer reports, mazda is ahead of even toyota in terms of reliability. Toyota is second at the list. The cars have good prices also with premium features you get in luxury cars. They dont cost an arm and a leg to maintain like a BMW.
Does that even matter? It's an economy class sedan....it's never going to experience any significant G-force unless it's in a severe crash, and even then 'pot metal' is still more than structurally sound enough. It doesn't need to have high grade metal in that space. That's how Mazda affords to make this car so much nicer in all the other ways, they're cutting the costs by using 'just good enough' materials in places where it's not as important so they can put that back into the bits you actually care about.
Reasons to get a civic or a corolla are fuel economy, rear space, price, resale value just to name a few. On the other hand, the mazda3 is a stunning car.,
This car is stunning and I loved your review! I got a 2015 Mazda 3 just under 2 years ago, and now I want to trade it in for this 2020 version it is just gorgeous 😭
My hubby brought a 9 year old Mazda, and we love this car. It has zoom zoom, and great features in the interior. I don't know much about the stats, but it has great pick up and we have moved furniture in the back hatch. It took my hubby 1 year to find this Mazda, it is a 2nd car for us, but we find ourselves using this 98% of the time. Very happy, next car we buy will be a Mazda. Love it.
I love the 2020 Mazda 3 it’s very sporty and sexy!!! It’s a great price too! Mazda makes good cars! My brother use to have a Mazda 626 back in the day!!!
I’ve been looking for cheaper cars with a premium feel. I looked at the Hyundai Sonata and it’s almost $30k for the version I’d prefer. I then looked at Kia fortes and Optimas they both have cheap things I didn’t like. Honda’s are nice and cheap in certain aspects. I didn’t want a crazy fast car but I want one that certainly looks nice and is enjoyable to drive either because of speed or comfort or both even. Then I remembered the Mazda commercials I’ve seen about their beautifully engineered designs and I saw the Mazda 3 and I’m Hooked.

I love this car, but love the hatch more. The 🥚 shape of it strongly evokes the original GLC-one of Mazda’s absolute most reliable cars ever sold in the US. I’ve been hearing some about Skyactiv D (diesel) coming soon, for the 6 and one of the SUV’s. Really excited about that. Mazda should offer gas 2.0, 2.5, 2.5 Turbo, 2.2 turbodiesel, awd, and a manual in every single vehicle they make. The parts are already available. If there’s one thing I don’t like, it’s the sound effect when you push engine start. Three or four “blung” sounds is adequate. 8 is a bit much, and some might say it could have been a more pleasing note. Thanks as always for another great review.
That's a lot of variants to ship but anyways the beeping volume is adjustable and it is because the driver doesn't have their seatbelt on. It will beep ten times and stop. If you buckle before it finishes ten beeps then it will stop. If you buckle your seat belt before you turn on the car it won't beep at all.
I own a 2018 Nissan Sentra . I definitely think this would be a great step up in performance and a more premium look . I was never into the exotic looking cars but I love the cars that give a date night look as well as a road trip and go for a night ride kinda look too .
No CVT is so nice. Had a 2020 Corolla as a loaner for 3 days and wow did t drive like a low budget rental car. The CVT acceleration was bad and the handling just felt off. My 09 TC rides way better. Mazda is one of the few brands I would even consider buying new from these days. I hope they get their sales mojo back, we need these guys in the game. Just hope they don't kill all the manuals.
Beautiful and a nice ride, I test drove it. 12 speakers? Wow. Wish more cars came with AWD or a bit better ground clearance for snowy conditions. Odd the CX5 touring trim doesn't offer a digital speedometer. Crazy spot for cupholders if in park right?

Thank you guys for this review! I live in Ecuador, but I always watch your reviews (Especially the Audi, VWs) but I am really really waiting the Mazda 3 to arrive to my city to get one (even though I've always been a VW owner). Keep the good work!
As a long time Mazda fan, only the top spec 2.5-litre AWD version of this car makes sense. Preferably in a manual, unless you live in a very crowded and huge city. Families should avoid the hatchback, and go for the sedan - or even better, the CX-30 and preferably the CX-5. Or wait around for the CX-50 😸👍 You sacrifice only a little handling for practicality, with Mazda crossover SUVs. With the CX-30, you get a better view and slightly more comfortable seating, ease(ier) of ingress/egress, and the back seating area is brighter and less claustrophobic - you loose those blindspots. Crossover SUVs also hold their value better when the dreaded time to let them go or trade them in comes. On the the diesels, they are only worth it if you do a lot of highway driving. Also, the rear suspension is not as simple as you think - read up on it. This new gen has a lot of work put into it, and the cabin is a very comfortable, quiet and nice place to be in. Seriously, even Mercedes & BMW owners/fans I know, are impressed and might start moving over, cause they see the value. Power/torque figures on paper and even if they are higher, is not as important as you think for real world driving. Band snobbery and Euro aXX kissing, is another thing though 😉 Personally, I like the way the more luxurious 3 and CX-30 has gone, and I hope they keep heading in this direction. It's hard to compete with some other budget Japanese manufacturers, and of course the Koreans and even some Chinese brands now - check out Geely cars for example.
But no towing capability for the CX-30 means no real utility, just more interior room. And no manual transmission is offered. l'd still need to buy a pickup for occasional hauling.
I was and still am considering this car in FWD preferred trim. Then I went to the NHTSA website and was surprised to see how many complaints there were for this car. The 2019 had 5 separate recalls. The most alarming is the emergency braking activating out of nowhere. Hope that 20 something gal right on my ass putting on makeup, combing her hair and reading that magazine can somehow find her brake pedal while doing all that other stuff.
Funny you should mention that. I'm looking to replace my Mazda3 and came across the same complaints. Lots of cars have these systems and similar complaints, including Honda and VW. The best part is, there's no way to disable the functionality permanently, or even in a way that sticks. It always defaults to "on" when you start the car. Nobody will help you modify it. So you'll end up disabling it every time you start the car, forever. FWIW, Subaru's manual transmission models don't have EyeSight. You can thank NHTSA for mandating this half-baked idea by 2022. I did catch a Toyota TSB outlining how to modify the "off" setting to be persistent using TechStream, for Tacoma trucks driven off-road.
I have a 1st gen Mazda3 S manual that I'm looking to replace because of rust. Still runs perfectly. I'd love to have this in the sedan with the manual because the hatch just looks too awkward and has lousy visibility. But the manual option is gone in the sedan. I'm looking elsewhere. So, they've lost me!
I have the 2016 Mazda 3 iSport model, which I believe is the middle model. It came with the moonroof. Now, you can only get the moonroof on the premium package model, which is sort of a bummer because most of the premium package bells and whistles are things I'm not really interested in. I live in San Diego county and a moonroof in nice to have here, so I now have to buy the high end model to get that where I didn't have to before.
I own a 2014 Mazda 3 hatchback manual and I drove a 2019 hatchback with a stick and liked everything about it except the handling. I was quite disappointed with the way it handled. The steering felt heavier but was noticeably slower in changing direction than my car. It’s a shame and I hope they fix that soon because I would gladly trade my car in for the new one otherwise
mac daddy I have no plans to get rid of it in the near future. The only thing I’d trade it in for is the new CX-5 turbo, which I can’t afford right now
@@CarConfections Yeah, that’s what I ended up going with. In the end, it was the additional horsepower & traditional transmission that edged me over into the Mazda. I still love the Sentra, though. If they continue on this path, maybe, once this lease is done, I can consider a Sentra next time around. Thank you for the response! Confirmed my choice. 👍🏽
@@OrdinaryG33K-SF I also am looking at both cars. I love the orange and black roof Sentra. But with only 147 horses and CVT i think im siding with the 3. This car is elegant but the Sentra is sharp! Unfortunately just show no go!
@@wilchambers1401 If I may suggest, go with the Premium trim on the Mazda3. I have the Select, and while it is generally fine, I wish I'd taken on the slightly higher payment for the Bose sound system, the sunroof, and the front parking sensor. These things are worth having, in my opinion. Oh, and be aware that the infotainment screen in the Mazda3 is non-touch. It can only be controlled via the knob/buttons in the center column, but you'll get used to that quickly.
One more thing on the Mazda3: Be aware that you're not going to get 2 fully-grown adults in the back seat. You MIGHT get 1, if they're seated behind the passenger seat. But my driver's seat is all the way back, and no one could really sit behind me. I pretty much consider my Mazda3 to be a 2-seater, which is fine for me because it's just me in the car, alone, most of the time. But if you have to haul HUMANS (more than one other, in the passenger seat), it's not really going to happen in the Mazda3. For more back seat space, you might want to stick with the Sentra, or consider the Honda Civic. You can get more horsepower than the Sentra with the Civic. The Touring trim on that will give you all the bells & whistles.
What about the new shape of the steering wheel. The coating is of high quality, but the profile is not round (tubular) as before, and therefore is not comfortable in any position of the hand, but only in a specific position. It is a great pity that they abandoned the "universal" form that suits every driver and every position.
My 2016 model Mazda 3's Infotainment console went on endless loop. Hard reboot did not work. Mazda dealership diagnosed it as a dead CMU (the brains of the console). Will cost $1300.00 to replace. They don't know when part will arrive. Last time my rear tail light cracked, it took 4 months to get the part. I wonder how long the CMU will take.
Ive heard a lot of complaints about rattles in the dash and the passenger seat belt column. Is that correct because I've got 2021 mazda 3 on order for August.
@@CarConfections thankyou. Good to hear. Apparently it takes more than a few kilometres, however many that is. My little yaris is 14years old and still quiet as a mouse. Might be just lucky.
I live in QLD Australia. I made the order in May and I've been told by mazda that it won't arrive until early November. At first they said middle of August. Perhaps things have changed since covid for some reason. The making of cars and shipping from Japan. A bit over 36000, but that includes paint and upholstery protection which cost 1700 dollars. So a bit over 34000 for the g25 evolve sedan. The same car is much cheaper in America but I think they are made in Mexico. When you buy Japanese, you want it to be made by Japanese. Either way they are the best in their class. Good luck.
I never ever purchase the new models until the 2nd or 3rd model comes out, by then all the bells and whistle are added as standard and the quirks are all resolved...otherwise it's beautiful.
@@2004cyrus Because they take up a large amount of the window and it causes a major distraction, at least for me! I don't own one, but I drove one for a week. I'm still driving my 2008 Mazda 3 which is still a great car!
@@jamesstephen353 I see. Well you get used to these things after a few weeks. When you are used to a car you’ve driven for years as I have too it’s an adjustment and maybe an irritation for a month or so. I came out of a VW Tiguan. There were things I absolutely hated in the Mazda but then a month or so later I realized I was used to the differences and now I like the Mazda more. I had to get used to the brakes and the seats and console and a few other things. The interior space too. Now I feel the CX-5 is superior.

I’ve had 5 Mazdas and my family drives them for 25-30 years. None of them have reliability issues or we would not keep buying them. You won’t have any problems and Toyota has those yucky CVT’s
It seems like the Mazda had to sneeze and made a longer nose I think that looks odd I think the noise is just a little too long we look at it from the side view you know what I mean
I disagree...this 6-spd skyactiv smooth shifting auto transmission is way better than the CVTs that Honda and Toyota use. Yes Honda and Toyota have better interior room but this 3 has better interior design, better interior quality materials and better NVH.
@@ztekz Um no. The three has lousy material quality that looks good on the surface but underneath is all rattles. Open the glove box and you will see it is made out of soda bottle plastic.
mac daddy, they are all mainstream compact cars so they’ll all have cheap plastic interiors. Only ones that’ll have high quality are the luxury vehicles. They’re in the business of making money so they all have similar materials. At least with the 3 it looks better than the others (even if you claim the 3 has inferior materials). No one is really going to be inspecting the materials carefully like you describe (going thru the glovebox?). What will matter is how the interior materials feel and look and not so much the composition. I test drove Civic, Forte, Corolla and 3 and the 3 still came out better in the exterior and interior look & design. Trust me they all have rattles coz of the vehicle class (mainstream compact). No manufacturer is exempt from this...
@@ztekz Not true. Subaru and Mini Cooper does not have cheap materials and zero rattles. The new Mazda 3 has so many things wrong with it. The engine cylinder deactivation does not save any fuel. The software safety features are poorly programmed and send too many false alarms. The rattles above the dash, center and instrument cluster are not fixable. The rear seat backs will not always latch back into place. The factory does not even torque the wheel lugs when assembling the car. The drivers side seat controls will flop out because the plastic tab holding them on will break off. The car is a mess.
test driven one today. It sucked. It was a standard transmission. Push to start and electric parking park that glitches on and off when you're turning it off and on. It'd a hazard to use while in ay up hill position and coming to a stop. The body has large gaps and pockets for water and dirt to build up inside of the frame and outside of the frame, mostly around the wheel in the areas that cars rust apart. I'd say it'd last 5 years at the max in salted roads. Ugly and over simplified toggle wheels to adjust music and whatnot. Performace is meh. The engine is meh. The durability of this car is about low as it gets, it won't pass an mvi in 5 years because the gaps allow the water and dirt to get in through to the outer subframe. i'd give it a 5/10 for "affordable" which it wasn't, it was the most expensive.

The take rate on manuals is like 2%. So they aren’t “losing” but maybe 50 sales per year or less
Hint hint, this looks like the perfect car for you Drew 😏
Give me the 2.5T with AWD and I'd be sold !

Gorgeous vehicle Mazda!!
9:48 thought you were going to spit some bars on that beat!
Anybody else have to reread this title like 3 times or am I just retarded 😂😂
Perhaps: Only thing "Entry level" is the price
Devon Gee thought I was only one…
I own a 2014 Mazda 3 hatchback manual and I drove a 2019 hatchback with a stick and liked everything about it except the handling. I was quite disappointed with the way it handled. The steering felt heavier but was noticeably slower in changing direction than my car. It’s a shame and I hope they fix that soon because I would gladly trade my car in for the new one otherwise
Your 2014 is a much better car. Keep it!!!
mac daddy I have no plans to get rid of it in the near future. The only thing I’d trade it in for is the new CX-5 turbo, which I can’t afford right now
Mazda steering is always a little heavy. Most say it’s perfectly weighted and very connected
OK, Car Confections, I have a choice in front of me: 2020 Nissan Sentra SR Premium, or 2021 Mazda 3 Select Sedan?
Both great choices! Personally, we would choose the Mazda because of its amazing driving dynamics
The Touring trim on that will give you all the bells & whistles.
no air vent for backseats is a huge entry level move...
Shoot I’m short like 5 feet . I’m afraid those headrests will obscure my view when changing lanes .
Dont know if I'm digging the infotainment screen
Did the cup holder cover get removed for 2020? I saw it on the 2019. I can’t find it on my 2020 and was wondering if it was missing
No cup holder cover on any Mazda 3 from the last couple generations.
Hopefully not long
@@2004cyrus took about 1.5 months to get part. All is good.
Ive heard a lot of complaints about rattles in the dash and the passenger seat belt column. Is that correct because I've got 2021 mazda 3 on order for August.
We didn't notice any rattles in any of our test units over the last 2 years
@@CarConfections thankyou. Good to hear. Apparently it takes more than a few kilometres, however many that is. My little yaris is 14years old and still quiet as a mouse. Might be just lucky.
Can you tell me what kind of price you paid ? Trying to figure out what is reasonable to pay for a new 2021 Mazda 3.
Can you get the heads up display on the preferred trim or is it only available on the premium trim?
Preferred
Do Toyota Sequoia review please
Is the Mazda 3 going to be completely redone in 2021?
No
I’ll buy one when they finally get the Skyactiv X engine in the U.S.
How old are you guys? 16? 17? I gave you a thumbs up because you're so young.
Thanks! We're 23 and 19 👍
If you see mazda on the streets demn you'll be looking filthy rich than seeing a civic that only looks like a racer haha
Have they fixed the rusting issues on Mazda
I believe you are wrong when you say the hatch have a bigger booth.. the opening it self are bigger. But litter wise the sedan have more space :3
Mazda is cute.
Gorgeous car but interior colors are too dark . Wish they offered a tan color interior with that red exterior .
A black and white interior is available.
The side view mirrors on all the Mazda's have been moved closer to the driver. I found this very uncomfortable when trying to drive it.
The side view mirrors on the outside of the car right ? How does that make the car uncomfortable?
15 years ago $14,000 was entry level!
Drew, this is so your new daily driver and replacement for your 2010 Camry. All this car is missing is a pano sunroof. 18 in. alloy wheels and that exterior color, car is so you Drew. Looks like all of your camera equipment fits in the trunk of the Mazda3 Drew and Mason.
Haha yeah! If they just had the 2.5T in it with AWD, I think I'd be sold!
You can turn on rear guidance in the setting but is weird you can even turn it off. I know cause I have one
Does the hatch have rear air vents? Also are the side mirrors auto dimming?
No just under seat ducts
Can anyone please tell what are the key differences between 2019 and 2020 versions. I am looking to buy a preferred version 2019 but now want to know if it's worth waiting to get the 2020 version.
Karan Nagar the 2020 models are already out for sale
Don't get either of them. Get something better.
That rear bumper mismatch on the red is freaking horrible
When is the Skyactiv X engine coming to Mazda?
I’ve seen a lot of people upset about the new key fob but doesn’t look too bad
These days people get upset if you say "Hello" to them when they don't expect it, so... opinions to be taken with a grain of salt lol
Mine works great
no more heated steering ?
What’s the insurance on this car like ..?
Hmm interesting, did they remove the cupholder cover/lid for 2020?
You know, we initially thought the same thing, but then we checked some 2019 models and it was always that way
Mazda fabric excellent cars even though is a small company good quality and good reliable cars Buy one
Look very nice and a lot of standard features Nice Drew :-) :-)
Wowwww what a nice.Mazda. 3 sedan thw oozing sounds and specs and designs amazing.thank u so much sir Drew to both of you guys for.your.nice excellent review take care godbless u more blessings Car confections from.your solid fan viewer from. The Philippines sir vhin.😇😇😇☺☺👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💕💕💕👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💟💟💟💟💟💟💟💟👏👏👏👏🚙🚗🚘🚘🚘🚐🚐🚗🚗🚗🚗
Nice looking car, but cannot believe you have to buy the premium trim to get the moonroof. Come on, Mazda!
Every other manufacturer is doing the same thing.
Agreed.
thinking of getting this or corolla xse. mazda3 specs looks really nice but reliability is a concern.
joblagz the Mazda is very reliable
Reliable is mazda
I’ve had 5 Mazdas and my family drives them for 25-30 years. None of them have reliability issues or we would not keep buying them. You won’t have any problems and Toyota has those yucky CVT’s
Bring the manual option to the sedan!
It seems like the Mazda had to sneeze and made a longer nose I think that looks odd I think the noise is just a little too long we look at it from the side view you know what I mean
I forgot to be “First” 😢
is this gs?
Great looking car but transmission, rear suspension & interior room are better on the Corolla & Civic
You are 100% correct.
Civic BEST!
test driven one today.
Was it undercoated at least? My old mazda3 has zero corrosion protection behind the front tires.
You are wrong about everything. I’ve owned 3. No rust and no water getting into the gaps
Hey, how come you don't let Mason go first sometime? XD
They have a system and it works great
Did they fix the cheap metal that rusts and the awful cabin noise?
And the transmission, rear suspension and motor
There are lower priced compact sedans. I don’t agree with the title of this video.
louis ayala of course there is but you get more car with your money for the Mazda 3
$30 grand is entry level price? You must be smoking something.
Can yoh help me to choose between mazda 3 and civic 2020 please and thank you.
That's a very tough decision! We have actually made a comparison video on the subject that you might find interesting: ua-cam.com/video/-y1aI1_id-Y/v-deo.html
Good review, congratulations.
But I'd rather buy VW Golf :)
Thanks!
