From today, I shall listen to it each day to encourage my efforts until I can find an alternative that gives me 100 seconds daily of Classical pleasure. If anyone can suggest a similar delight, I’ll be glad to hear of it.

    This certainly takes me back to my childhood in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE England. "Dick Barton -- Special Agent" was a weekly BBC broadcast on the old Light Programme, on a Thursday around 8 p.m., if my memory serves me well. That was, for me as a child of about 8, around 1944-45 " and beyond, until we left for Spain in summer 1947. Dick", "Jock" and "Snowy" were the main characters. I used to look forward not only to the great plots that would ensue, but to the theme music. You can really feel that 'gallop', and it's almost as if the horses are crashing through your walls!This is a fantastic performance by the BBC Concert Orchestra. What energy must these superb musicians have!!! It has inspired my to look for my old triangle, and perhaps? some solid practice, to see if I can join their ranks.Best wishes. Joe Silmon-Monerri

      +Joe A A SILMON-MONERRI Dick Barton was brpadcast daily, for 1 minutes, in a slot later replaced by The Archers. I was always amazed at the wayamy father could guedss the plots. How's the clarinet?

    • @jaasilm1
      @jaasilm1 8 років тому +1

      +Keith Edgerley Hello Keith. Nice to hear from your. Your father must have been a very brainy man, to work out those plots. I suppose for the grown-ups, some of the plots were predictable, a bit like the Paul Temple episodes nowadays. The man who plays "David Archer", by a mere coincidence, was kind enough to write the 'foreword' for my forthcoming book [which got published in January this year, but I had to withdraw the paperback and the Kindle, because my book files had picked up bugs over the decades and the corruption affected page and footnote numbering and even page sequences severely; it's all being fixed now, and I'll try again shortly]. Anyway, "David" as you will know, is the actor "Tim Bentinck" (who also happens to be the 12th Earl of Portland, as well as a Prince of the Holy Roman Empire). He's distantly related to the subject of my present book, a 19th century earl of the House of Seymour. I'm amazed that you know I play the clarinet; maybe we've played together. I seem to know the name from the Jazz world. When I play nowadays, I would feel naked without the other reed instruments I play, although I do enjoy playing the clarinet. Tim Bentinck is a fine Jazz guitarist and vocalist. Very best wishes. Joe S-M (a.k.a. "Joe Silmon")

      ChristopherSyn1 Good for you Christopher. Land of "stotty-cakes"! I love going back there, too infrequently for my liking. I was born in High Heaton in 1937. Two when the bombs started to drop all around, and mines on parachutes. Pity we didn't meet back then; we could have shared the "Dandy" and the "Beano". Later those fantastic American comics. "Commander Steel", "Doctor Destine", "Freelance", etc., all over a tall glass of Tizer. No cocktails at that age!!! Best wishes. Joe S-M.
