I got quite depressed after moving to the USA many, many years ago. I had no idea how bad the food here is. I think it's the main reason my weight remain the same as I was when I came here 30 years ago. I rarely eat fast food or drink sugary drinks, and mainly cook my own meals and exercise daily, so that's a plus for me. But seeing you guys eat good street food really bring back memories. Keep up with the good eats and thx for videos.
So glad our videos are bringing back great memories kelvinyany. Do you visit Malaysia often? And are there many Malaysian restaurants where you live? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment mate. Cheers, Sheena 😀
Thanks Rest In Pieces 😄😄😄😄 We figure it's helpful for our viewers who don't know much about the food we're eating- we give them a bit of info rather then them just having to watch us stuff our faces with food they know nothing about 😝 Thanks for watching and supporting our channel! We are having such a ball discovering Malaysia's epic food culture. Cheers, Sheena
Such a great dish! You'll be going crazy for all the food when you get back here! So different to being in Chile! Thanks for watching Foogie Sim VLOGs and we're glad we could help you add to your list! Cheers, Thomas 😀

Reading the comments I learned today that you love pineapple on pizza. 🤔😐 Quite a love/hate in the U.S. that's for sure. 😂 There are so many different *_nasi_* dishes in Malaysia. Never ending and all delicious looking. Very interesting to me. 👍
haha the great pineapple debate! 😀 The Hawaiian pizza was one of only a handful of options when we were kids in New Zealand so it's pineapple all the way for us 😋😂 The nasi dishes sure are never ending here. We're really enjoying exploring them and finding out about new ones all the time. Plenty more to try! Thanks so much for watching and we're glad you enjoyed this one. Cheers, Thomas 😀
nasi kukus literally means steamed rice because they're cooked in that piled up steamer you mentioned. it's one of my favourite lunch dish because of how simple it is no need to trouble yourself of what to pick and choose and yet it's soooooooo good!
Great explanation Syafique Sharif, thanks so much for that! We can't wait to try more nasi kukus combos whilst we're here in Malaysia- I'm sure we'll love them all! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to write mate. Cheers, Sheena
Totally! What an amazing combo! We can't wait to have this one again. Thanks so much for watching and we're so glad you enjoyed this video! Cheers, Thomas 😀

Aye she's right. You guys went to the right place for Nasi Kukus. And if for Nasi Ambeng in Selangor, the nasi ambeng bonda is totally a great place for it. Make sure you guys go there with empty stomach. And don't forget the 'bergedel' to put into your Nasi Ambeng.
Thanks so much Perdana KP! We are having the best time exploring Malaysia's food culture- it's INCREDIBLE!! Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed this one! Cheers, Sheena 😄

Our enthusiasm comes very easy for the amazing food here in Malaysia! 😋😋 We're so glad you're enjoying our videos and we hope you like all the content we have coming up! Cheers, Thomas 😀
Try nasi tomato guys! I don't know where is the best place to get the best nasi tomato around KL and south Malaysia since I'm from northern part of Malaysia. By the way, when you get the right one..it is really delicious. The tomato rice comes with ayam merah, jelatah(mix of veggies) and air asam(maybe in northern Malaysia only). Sometimes jelatah is replaced with dalca cair in which the combo with dalca cair is far better for me. Dalca cair is mix of veggies in watery dall gravy that include carrot, potato, eggplant, long bean, chicken leg/neck. Nasi tomato is superrr delicious and nutritious too like nasi lemak. Goodluck dear food traveller!
Wow that sounds so delicious I am! We went out today and saw nasi tomato at the restaurant but didn't have enough stomach space to try it 😆 It's definitely on the list to try next time though! Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena 😀
Thanks! It's great to be back to explore more. Thanks so much for your kind words and for supporting our channel. It means a lot to us! Cheers, Thomas 😀

Chasing a Plate - Food and Travel Channel When you were visiting one state, did you went to just one district or several? Do you guys think we could make it happen? Hehe.. Let me know! Thanks ❤
It is such a great meal! We love it so much Ammar Ramson! Can't wait to go back soon. Thanks for watching and so cool that you agree that Nasi Kukus at Ilham's is awesome. Cheers, Sheena
Looks so yummm! I lived in Malaysia for 24 years and never once had nasi kukus myself. Must try when I go back home. Btw, if you're keen, try having lunch at Restoran Soto, which is in Seksyen 8 Shah Alam. They have a gajillion dishes you can try (nasi campur), but I believe they have other things on the menu too. Trust me, you'll be spoilt for choice
That sounds fantastic mate! Thanks for the recommendation. Do you get back to Malaysia often? Thanks for watching our videos and hope you're enjoying them! Cheers, Sheena
Ilham Nasi Kukus is my fav place. Even though I live 30mins away from there, I'd go once a week to eat their nasi kukus. If you like spicy food, you should try Leko. They serve indonesian food, and the sambal is one of the best I've tasted. Order their spicy ribs and rice, you won't regret.
If you go there, the name is Iga Penyet (beef ribs) with rice. There is another Iga grilled or something. I've never tried that one. Hope you enjoy our food!
Oh man I really enjoy your channel, love your authenticity and enthusiasm! You both are such a dynamic duo, and love the way you present all these foods in these videos, and the effort you put in getting to know the local names and ingredients is amazing. Good for you guys! It's been a while since I've had nasi kukus, and I'm really glad you guys found a nice one. By the way, I've been wondering, you guys are now familiar with Nasi Kandar Pelita . Have you ever had the chicken soup there? It's completely different from any soups out there. It's nothing like Chinese, Western or Malay soups. It's definitely something interesting.
Hi mate, we loved this dish SO MUCH! We've only ever had the plain soup at Pelita- not the chicken one but we found it so tasty! Such an interesting flavour. We'll be sure to order the chicken next time- I also would love to try the kambing. Thanks for watching truebluekit and cheers for commenting. Sheena
Well, nowadays, what really is special? If you look hard enough, there's always someone selling even festive dishes every day. So, special foods are really subjective. I think people in general aren't necessarily looking for the most special or unique dishes, but dishes that are done very well. Just take a look at the humble nasi lemak. What's so hard about making it? But some places make them so well they can't make enough of them. So yeah, nasi kukus might not be all that special, but when done well... cheers!
When you order soup at a Mamak Restaurant, you may want to ask whether they have different soup with different meat as opposed to one general soup with option of the meat like chicken, beef or mutton etc... I only order if it is Chicken, Beef or Mutton in its own soup. Because the Mutton will spoil the Chicken or Beef flavour. Ask for bread too to dip into the soup... :-D
Hi afikdizzy! I love her expressions too! I always have to try and stop myself laughing while holding the camera and filming 😂 Thanks so much for watching and we're so glad you're enjoyed the videos! Cheers, Thomas 😀
the pipineapplechunks cooked in curry- like sauce you guys ate is called pajeri nenas.it's my favorite.n fact, my mum just cooked it yesterday.usually, the curry sauce taste sweet & not spicy like normal curry.
Thanks so much for that Firdaus Hamid 😀 Gosh I loved it so much and lucky you that your Mum just cooked it!! YUM! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to write mate. Cheers, Sheena

That was such a great meal! Thanks for watching and commenting mate, hope you are keeping safe and looking after yourself in these crazy times! Cheers, Sheena
Gosh. This brings back memories. I used to eat at the same Nasi Kukus Ilham every Friday. The uniqueness is the gravy's mixture of sweet, sour, spicy and salty. You'll get a more even taste every mouthful if you mix the gravy with the rice fully before you eat. BTW - the corn drink is with artificial syrup. Watery. So-so taste. You were asking about location? Its in Mutiara Damansara. And I assume we'll see a video on Asam Pedas place nearby soon. There's also an ikan patin restaurant there but the prices can be very expensive.
Hi jumbeaux1! We really loved this dish! Mixing all the gravy and the rice gave such a brilliant flavour. It was a really special meal. Thanks for the info re location. We were just mentioning that we always put that info in the description so other people can find the details about where we eat. We didn't visit the Asam Pedas place this time but we did film another video in the area so watch out for that on the channel soon. Thanks for watching! Cheers, Thomas 😀
Thanks so much for the support Ikhmal Danial! We LOVE the local food here and can't wait to explore all of Malaysia. Another subscriber mentioned I look like him! Sadly I can't rap at all haha! Thanks for watching and the support! Cheers, Thomas 😀

to be honest . im eating nasi kukus everyday at lunch hour when im working . really worthy for the price . just rm6 and u can refill the syrup water :D
I would recommend you to try "warung cikgu", they offer nasi manggay ( nasi kukus + kuah + chunk of small pieces of chicken cut in dozens + extra spicy sambal ) and delicious coconut shake with vanilla ice cream and also air kelapa baldi to cool the spiciness off.
Thanks for this suggestion Kucing Berlari Terlanggar Cermin. We've never tried nasi manggay before and it sounds great. That coconut shake sounds ace too! Have made a note of the place. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed this one. 😀 Cheers, Sheena
Its actually almost the same like nasi kukus you eat and same concept of self service, The only different is the chicken. You welcome, always enjoy your video as always :D
Ilham Nasi Kukus is the best nasi kukus in KL. One suggestion u guys need to eat Nasi Beriani Gam. They are everywhere especially in Johor. But i would like to recommend Pak Anjang Bariani Johore and order their Nasi Beriani Gam Kambing. Do add on Acar Buah too. Although i am from Kelantan but i really enjoy nasi beriani gam. We are Malaysians btw. We love all foods in Malaysia. Happy food hunting guys!
Thanks so much for that amazing suggestion Adam Shariff Noordin. Perhaps we can be honorary Malaysians as we love all the foods in Malaysia too 😀 Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. Cheers, Sheena
There is a type of lunch pack rice very popular among office workers called 'Nasi Kak Wok', usually rice, turmeric chicken and long beans, simple but flavourful. Its sold really cheap as low as RM3 per pack.

😆😆😝 yay, so glad we got that one right Farhani Ali! Hope you liked this video and thanks for taking the time to comment. Cheers, Sheena
Reading the comments I learned today that you love pineapple on pizza. 🤔😐 Quite a love/hate in the U.S. that's for sure. 😂
There are so many different *_nasi_* dishes in Malaysia. Never ending and all delicious looking. Very interesting to me. 👍
haha the great pineapple debate! 😀 The Hawaiian pizza was one of only a handful of options when we were kids in New Zealand so it's pineapple all the way for us 😋😂
The nasi dishes sure are never ending here. We're really enjoying exploring them and finding out about new ones all the time. Plenty more to try!
Thanks so much for watching and we're glad you enjoyed this one.
Cheers, Thomas 😀
Yeah. U right..some people be like...pineappls with everything? And you will be crucified..))🤣
nasi kukus literally means steamed rice because they're cooked in that piled up steamer you mentioned. it's one of my favourite lunch dish because of how simple it is no need to trouble yourself of what to pick and choose and yet it's soooooooo good!
Great explanation Syafique Sharif, thanks so much for that! We can't wait to try more nasi kukus combos whilst we're here in Malaysia- I'm sure we'll love them all! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to write mate. Cheers, Sheena
The combination of thick gulai gravy + sambal belacan + crispy ayam goreng berempah should never gone wrong😘....great video guys 👍👍👍

Oh yes Nasi Ambeng.......its a food by the Batak people from Indonesia who live in Kuala Selangor

I just can't stop smiling...
haha neither could we eating this brilliant dish! LOVED it! Thanks for watching! Cheers, Thomas 😀
Spicy ribs and rice?! OMG. We're there! Thanks for the recommendation Amighol and hope you enjoyed this one. Cheers, Sheena
If you go there, the name is Iga Penyet (beef ribs) with rice. There is another Iga grilled or something. I've never tried that one. Hope you enjoy our food!
Thanks for that info Amighol! 😄 Cheers, Sheena

Sheena
nasi kukus is not really that special imho.
We loved it 😍
i just can't get enough of your expression, sheena. haha awesome!
Hi afikdizzy! I love her expressions too! I always have to try and stop myself laughing while holding the camera and filming 😂 Thanks so much for watching and we're so glad you're enjoyed the videos! Cheers, Thomas 😀

It is SO GOOD! I want it for lunch today! Hope you enjoyed this one mate.
