K/M Bismarck was one of the most powerful battleships in the world. Construction started 1st of July 1936 and was launched on 14 th of February 1939. He featured powerful armor but the basis slightly resembled that of a heavy cruiser in terms of speed and shape of the hull. He had 4 gun turrets each armed with twin 380 mm SK C/34 naval guns which made him a serious foe to almost any ship of that time.
He fought in the battle of Denmark strait (along with heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen) where he sunk the pride of British Navy, HMS Hood leaving only 3 survivors. That was his first and only naval victory.
Shortly after Hood had sunk, British Admiralty had dispatched almost all available ships in pursuit of Bismarck.
On 26th of May Bismarck was noticed by british Catalina scout plane and later that evening British launched an air torpedo attack against Bismarck which was a success. Ship´s rudder was damaged and disabled for good so Bismarck couldn´t manouver and didn´t stand a chance.
He sunk on 27th of May 1941 after a short and bloody fight against many British destroyers, battleships, battlecruisers etc. 1.995 of 2200 souls were lost.

This song helped me get into Sabaton, and eventually get myself heavily invested in heavy metal. While I now prefer other songs from other bands, this song will still stay in my heart as my 1st taste into heavy metal, and for that, I will appreciate it dearly.

Fun fact: if He had been built like other battleships of his time, he could've used his propellers to correct for the jammed rudder, but, his props were closer together than normal battleships, so he could not correct for the jammed rudder. Leading to him being swarmed.

One thing I found when I read about Bismarck caught my interest and it is in fact a really interesting story! From when Bismarck first set sail, it always had a ship cat onboard, which original name given by the Germans is unknown. It was supposedly owned by an unknown crewman, but was seen as the shipscat by the entire crew. It was on the ship during the entire battle of the Denmark Strait and of course also on board when Bismarck sank. It managed to survive the sinking and a few hours later, the cat was found floating on a board and picked up from the water by the British destroyer HMS Cossack. The British sailors named him Oscar. HMS Cossack returned to the Mediterranean sea where it went on escort duties. On 24 October 1941, Cossack was escorting a convoy from Gibraltar to Great Britain when it was hit by a torpedo fired from U-563, after which it was towed towards Gibraltar but eventually sank after a huge explosion. Again, Oscar survived, and was brought to shore at Gibraltar and then tranferred to the Aircraft Carrier HMS Ark Royal, where the Captain allegedly said something like: "Is that the cat from the battleship Bismarck? Bring him onboard!" At this point the cat was known as "Unsinkable Sam", as a reference to the cat's luck after surviving two sinkings. But then, on 14 November 1941, Ark Royal too was torpedoed, this time by U-81 and sank around 30 miles from Gibraltar. Oscar managed to survive once again, and he was picked up and transferred to HMS Lightning and then to the same HMS Legion which had rescued the crew of HMS Cossack. HMS Legion would itself be sunk in 1942, and HMS Lightning in 1943. Oscar now, quite fairly, gained certain reputation of being extremely unlucky, and was therefore transferred first to the offices of the Governor of Gibraltar and then sent back to the United Kingdom, where he saw out the remainder of the war living in a seaman's home in Belfast called the "Home for Sailors". Oscar died in 1955.

Kokunos Kos okay bismarck maybe couldnt sink yamato. No ship could. But he could sink both iowa, north carolina and south dakota battleships because of their relatively non efficient horizontal armor. Plus Bismarck could easily out-manouver american battleships.
