I don't know why but everytime I see Nick's smile at the end I just burst into tears. It's such a beautiful moment of realisation, plus the song urghhh...and the twilight
5:57 So something that always draws my eye is the poster in between Charlie and Ben that says “to thine own self be true” - quite appropriate considering the situation… Just another one of those neat background details
Thank you! I've been exited waiting for your year on reactions, it's just what we need while waiting for season 2. I fully agree that Charlie's "well done" giggle is Nick's first realization of his feelings.
I remember how for me, and for most of the people I watched react to the show the delighted surprise the moment we saw that Olivia Colman was playing Sarah Nelson. It was really such a well-kept secret that she was going to be on it, and with the exception of a few people who did not have any idea who she was, it was generally met with astonishment and happiness.
The only reason she's in the series is because she's Hollywood's leading advocate for Gay Rights, and she is not shy with her opinions; she's obviously not here for the money....
Jackie, what a surprise and how lovely you are doing these now! The anticipation for S2 is killing me but new videos from you helps a great deal! Thank you, and i fully share your joy! I want to comment on what you said about the music being one of your favorite parts of the show - I wholeheartedly agree! Alice, Patrick, Adiescar Chase and music supervisors Matt Biffa and Ciara Elwis all did a fantastic job curating the music and securing the rights, and then Euros and editor Sofie Alonzi making sure it fit seamlessly within the story and scenes. I mean, the music is almost another character in the show! And ... my very favorite music choice in the series (and that's hard because there are so many!) is actually in THIS episode: Wolf Alice's "Dont Delete The Kisses." Isn't it brilliantly crafted..?!? Besides the First Kiss scene, the end of E1 is the clip I watch the most - and sends shivers up my spine every time! I love how when Charlie finally figures out the text he wants to send, the camera tilts up to his face, he gets a small smile ... at which time the volume of the song increases tenfold (must sound fab in a theatre!)..!!! But it is those few final seconds that get me in the gut - Nick reads the message with the "x" (which I'm sure some Americans initially didn't understand the significance of, lol) and then the two seagulls fly in, Nick looks out the window, the smile on his face goes wider ... and then the fantastic end of the song with the electrifying reverb effect occurs just as the picture goes dark for a few seconds so all our spines get an extra electrical charge! It is just SO iconic now, and every time i watch it, there goes my spine - actually my whole body - and I tear up because it's such the super poignant moment! Also, want to bring to you and your viewers' attention an article I actually just found recently from Attitude, although it's from more than a year ago, of how the source music all came together (although they don't discuss the Wolf Alice song that much, but that's ok). www.attitude.co.uk/culture/film-tv/heartstopper-how-the-shows-creators-created-such-a-magical-and-prideful-playlist-403470 If you hadn't seen that before, hope it answered a lot of questions, like it did for me. Jackie - thank you again, my friend, and I look forward to the rest of your episode updates!! -Merrick in San Francisco
I love this episode. Despite the toxic nature of the Ben-Charlie relationship, I can understand Charlie's reasons for being in it despite the huge red flags. We all want someone to make us feel loved, and this is the first chance he has had to get that validation of his feelings. We all remember that first time we held a guys hand, the first time we kissed a guy and the first relationship we were in with a guy where it just feels so right and they're the feelings Charlie is experiencing along with the toxic nature of Ben hope. I like to think that the time that Nick falls for him is when he's watching him run. The lick of his lips and running his hand through his hair. I love how natural everything in this episode is. The introduction of the characters, there's no this is Charlie, he is gay, this is Elle, she is trans, this is Isaac, he is ace. It's all very smoothly integrated. Charlie has a 'boyfriend' and a crush on the star player of the rugby team, rugby king and Golden Retriever, Nick Nelson. The comment about Elle being deadnamed by the transphobic teacher. Isaac being ace-coded. The first character to actually mention their sexuality is Tao. When he says in the second episode that he is his token straight friend, which itself is interesting because everything we know about Elle suggests that she is also straight, although she could be bi/pan
I agree with you about when Nick saw him run. It's like it started the attractions- I think the leaves indicate the first time it was at the front of his mind vrs the back of his mind, if that makes sense.
I feel like a lot of people (at least the "reactors" I've watched here on youtube) miss the fact that when real-Nick asks "Do you want to join the rugby team?", he says it with the exact same tone, inflection and facial expression as dream-Nick asking "Do you want to go out with me?". I don't know if Kit (and the director) did this on purpose or not, but I do find it quite sweet (and telling 😉). Anyway, it was nice seeing Heartstopper through your eyes again, and I'm looking forward to your video's on season two 🙂. (Also sorry if commenting on not-so-recent video's is a no-no, I'm old and I don't understand youtube etiquette!)
I don’t think that was the idea of his suggestion. I’m pretty sure when he says ‘I can do it for you’ he just means that one problem nick can’t figure out. Also in my perception of Charlie and Ben’s relationship is that they mostly met for a bit, briefly talked then kissed, that’s it. Ben did USE Charlie but in a bit of a different way than that. He’s by no means a good person but I don’t see any reason for him to do that, because his motivation isn’t simply “I’m evil” like a lot of high school bully trope characters.
I love that you are making these videos again! Yes, in the comic book, Nick is bigger than Charlie, in fact, Kit Connor was super skinny and had to gain muscle to play Nick although it doesn't show in the first season, in the second season, he does look bigger.
Jackie I don't know if you're ever going to see this comment but I hope you do eventually. I am also obsessed with heartstopper and I love how passionate you are and how much this universe has benefitted you and how you are able to give me a different perspective and well articulated thoughts and feelings on the show and the books. I think we both deserve PHD's in heartstopper (a very real and official thing cough cough) and I'm SO FREAKING EXCITED to see season 2 and your reactions. You have brightened my day with your content and I wish you all the best xxx
Jackie... I have the audiobook read by Jenny. OMG!!! It's amazing! I mean... Jenny Walser is, and always will be, the one and only Tori. The first version of Solitaire has a great narrator... But, as good as it is, it doesn't beat Jenny's version.
5:56: the way Charlie remains motionless and looks at his hand with Nick’s smiley on it while Ben kisses him… I always think he feels like he’s cheating on Nick…😈
The whole vibe of season one and season two are definitely different because they have to be…the first season, explores young love and acceptance and coming into your own. Where as season two still explores some acceptance and stuff, but really digs into the repercussions for many young people, who unfortunately were forced to be outed and what serious consequences can come from that…it’s simply a beautiful story and yes it gets heavy but also lighthearted too…they’re both a natural story progression and will help lead each other to future seasons
I think the second season will be the same but a bit more grown up, Alice said that all the topics will be seen from a positive lens so I'm really happy about that because everything that's coming is not easy.
I have mixed feelings about Tao's attitude in the comics he was still protective but not as toxic as in the show, I hope his role now that he knows Charlie and Nick are together will improve this second season, THANK GOD! he got a new look.
Thanks for sharing so much Heartstopper content!! For your next videos, could you please consider displaying the subtitles? Your audio mix leaves your audio way higher than the episode, so we can’t hear what the character’s say without immediately hearing your observations BLASTING The subtitles would be a very simple and easy fix. Thanks!
I don't know why but everytime I see Nick's smile at the end I just burst into tears. It's such a beautiful moment of realisation, plus the song urghhh...and the twilight
soooo perfect. every element of this show is.
Couldn't agree with you more, Arif!!
You are very right: it’s been a year but it feels like Heartstopper has been with us for years…😍
Everyone watching this video now has a PhD in Heartstopper! Congratulations! You are now a Doctor of Heartstopperology !
the only PHD actually worth having 🤣😉

The music gets me too. Everytime I hear it.
Seeing bash tomorrow in the play. Very excited!

Olivia Coleman is nothing short of iconic
The only reason she's in the series is because she's Hollywood's leading advocate for Gay Rights, and she is not shy with her opinions; she's obviously not here for the money....

I lost count of how many times I've rewatched this show 😅❤

comments on all videos, no matter the age, is always welcome!! ♥️
I wonder why Charlie asks Nick if he wants him to do his maths homework for him? Might it be something Ben used to make Charlie do for him?
I don’t think that was the idea of his suggestion. I’m pretty sure when he says ‘I can do it for you’ he just means that one problem nick can’t figure out. Thank you for such a wonderful comment, Sasha ♥️♥️♥️♥️ you have brightened my day with your lovely words!
Those little leaves you see, while Tao, Isaac, and Charlie are having lunch, were digitally added in post-production.
In relation to the relationship between the teachers, it is super confirmed by Alice herself that they will have their moments in season two.
🌈💜
♥️♥️♥️
YAAAYYY!! You’re back!! Hehehehe!! Although I just discovered you last week. 😋
Also, please adopt me so I can do all the cast things and plays! We get nothing here in the stupid colonies. 😭
