Hopefully you don’t get termites in you new addition. It would have been smart to build a concrete curb 8” above grade to keep the framing above grade, and the siding at least 6” above grade.
Nice to have that added space already roofed.

Great video, subscribed and will be watching part 2. I live in Central FL 10 min to the beach. Its amazing how things change in a 2 yr period. Leaving FL and going to GA, purchasing a couple acres with LG horse barn. Looking to take that one side of the main barn, lean to and converting to living space. After that, will probably take a good portion of the lofted area in the barn. Disabled so can't finish it but will help me lay it out and figure out some costs. Thank you for sharing.

Good job Jack that makes a nice little addition to your house and with little Jack you're going to need the room has somebody that has been in construction their whole life the only thing different I would have done is for some concrete in between the brick pillars on the one side where the water comes through to mount the bottom plate too it all in all great job👍

My wife and I are are thinking about buying a home on the gulf (my brother lives in Pensacola on Bayou Chico) and we were stunned how much homes on Navy Point are going for, if and when they are available. Have been looking at Gulf Breeze, and some other spots on the water that’s not the ocean.

    Very good job
That's not easy or cheap to do
Only questionable thing is the ply
    Plywood doesn't expand etc
Only solid wood does against the grain from what I understand
But looks very good and great equity in your house

    • @HighestRank

yeah but if you seal it on just one side, wet ply will warp like nothing you've ever seen.

I want to do this to my house to use the extra space as a new kitchen. My only concern is the ceiling height out there is about 7.5ft so to make it comfortable we would need to probably take that part of the roof off and raise it. Also wondering how difficult it would be to get water/sewer out there.

So did you mean to put the door in backwards, doors swing in Hinges on the inside , threshold on the outside. Is the door windstorm compliant. You will need a windstorm inspection.

    • @YakMotley

It is an outward swinging door. That is the hurricane code here.

I would bet that door would leak in any heavy blowing rain. It will blow right past the weather stripping, especially where the doors meet. Is it wind rated?

Hey great video. I have a question. Because I have a similar carport and thinking about closing. Could you have supported the roof with steel post and took down the brick to give you more space? I'm actually going to use it as a one car garage and taking down the brick pillars will give me more side space.

    • @YakMotley
      @YakMotley  Рік тому
