    Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island, and the first Pacific Rim were all WAY more visually interesting and majestically engaging because they all had a sense of weight and heaviness to the monsters and robots. PR Uprising literally just feels like your watching a boring cartoon.

    Pacific Rim is one of my favourite films because it has no right to be as good as it was. But GDT cared so much that he made something truly special. Uprising destroys that legacy all together

    David Fincher could make a damn good movie out of Gundam. The episodes I saw on toonami in the late 90's were outstanding.

    It sounds like the typical Hollywood sequel whereby they copy the one line synopsis and leave out all the stuff that actually made the first one good.

    Just seen this. I was initially impressed with the interaction between Boyega and the girl. Then it went nowhere that was not entirely predictable and the plot turned out to be about as silly as you could imagine - and out of kilter with the previous scene. It even seemed to lack a proper structure. Very disappointing.

    I'm super confused about what he's talking about, as it sounds like he's rambling about random things that have nothing to do with the movie. But me personally, I liked it. I agree it's not nearly as good as the first one, but in no way is it terrible (I could make an entire video defending this movie). I would say this movie is worth it, in fact Uprising is better than all those awful transformers movies.

    I just came out of seeing PRU. Great action, CGI and effects, with ok acting, but otherwise Mark is pretty much right. I didn’t long for it to end, but I was a little nonplussed when it finished.
    It definitely could have been better, both in terms of character development and execution. Naturally kids will lap it up. 8/10 for action and effects. 4/10 for the rest. Here’s to part three. ;-)

    I thought it was like watching a transformers film, the plot was all over the place and was just like here look some giant robots. The first one I loved because you can tell it was made by someone that cared, this one didn't have that sense.

    I just got back from the movie. HI wish a movie with giant robots fighting space lizards was more fun, but it is merely watchable. John Boyega is such a charismatic actor and gives a performance this movie doesn't deserve. He is utterly wasted in Star Wars, in this movie he is funny, strong, and snappy. Scott Eastwood is utterly bland and only has his good looks going for him. The robot CEO only wears one earring. Why? It didn't look bad, just odd.

    • @chazbrennan9632
      @chazbrennan9632 6 років тому

      I thought it was cruel and dismissive to the Asian characters. Do they think the Chinese want to see themselves portrayed as dragon-ladies and grim generals forever? They kill Mako off (she wasn't much but she has the semblance of an emotional history) and then everybody else is just cardboard mouthing cliches..

    • @ElDaumo
      @ElDaumo 6 років тому

      apparently that is what sells in the asian market. give it a few years and everyone there might be fed up with those cliches. then again, look at our super hero movies, those are the same schlock over and over again and no one seems to really care.

      Dante SpardaI think ** was weird in the first movie. I was worried that what happened in this movie was going to happen in the original. His obsession with Kaiju and his drift with them made me suspect they would go that rout. I was relieved to see him still on the good side at the end of that movie. Too bad it was short-lived. They shouldn't have killed ***

  • @bullzeye1423
    @bullzeye1423 6 років тому

    I thought the film was ok. I do agree with some of the points. I felt there was bit of an Asian bait by having obligatory Asian characters. It was a cash grab film and unabashedly at times.
    However I have to admit for the first 40 minutes of the film I actually thought it was going somewhere, like special. But then the second half, that fell through. I do like John Boyega as an actor though and didn't think he was one of the faults of the film.

  • @leighsherval1023

    I wish critics would stop pretending that Pacific Rim isn't what it is. I loved it. I saw it five times. But it's a big, dumb monster mash. On purpose. Riding the sequel for doing the same thing (in broad daylight instead of night time) is lazy. The only difference is the director. And both he and Del Toro clearly share the same love of the subgenre.

    • @leighsherval1023
      @leighsherval1023 6 років тому

      Samuel Robinson everything you just said relates to the CGI and, having now seen Uprising, that stuff trounces the original. All the action here looks like that brief clip in the original where we see Stryker Eureka at work in Sydney. The film has the exact same kind of visual texture as the first, there are loads of incidental changes to the imagined technology that are quite clever within the context of the film. If I had to choose I'd say I preferred the first one overall because it felt a bit more personal. But Uprising blows out in cool directions and I'd happily watch another of these as a result. This was no more cookie cutter than any of the Marvel output over the past few years... But those get away with being breezy nonsense, for some reason.

      The sequel doesn't automatically ruin the original movie. By that logic you're now saying
      The dark knight trilogy ruins the original batman, the new planet of the ape movies erase the 1968 film, and the new Godzilla movies of 2014 and 2016 replace the original 1954 film.

  • @chazbrennan9632
    @chazbrennan9632 6 років тому

    Absolutely rotten, and what a pity, because the human cast do their very best and it could have been charming and exciting. Boyega and Eastwood were super attractive and charismatic (even if Eastwood is practically a clone pf his old man, and knows it). Plucky girl was just a clone of Rei from SW but she did a fine job. And the supporting cast of Asian actors were patronized and wasted in cardboard roles. They even broke up the mismatched buddy relationship between Burn Gorman and Charlie Day that gave the first movie some jolly fun.
    FFS, there's no real kaiju until the last twenty minutes, and they Voltron (why do the kaiju Voltron,why not the jaegers?) before they've even registered. Nothing (as Mark says) feels BIG or like it actually matters. It felt exactly like a 'Transformers' movie made by a normal, uninterested person instead of an actual stupid misogynist like Michael Bay.
    What a waste. So pointless.

    I usually agree with mark on these reviews, but he is very wrong about this film. Uprising is a big barrel of fun. Big Robots fight other Big Robots and Giant Alien Monsters from another dimension, its not trying to be anything else but fun. Its bright, colourful and a great piece of escapism. I drew breath multiple times throughout the movie at the lovely visiuals, character moments and excellent fights. Boyega was great in it, and his comedy chops shine. It doesn't take itself too seriously and its a great appetiser to the Summer blockbuster season. I cannot wait to see it again.

    Sorry but I just watched Uprising and I loved every minute of it. I was worried going in because of the negative reviews but man was it a thoroughly satisfying and fulfilling film! Can't wait to further explore the world of PR but it helps to watch the original in order to follow some story elements.

    Totally disagress with Mark, this is superior to the original in terms of character and spectacle. The "leads" in the first film were so vapid I can´t even remember them and the action scenes in this one have more heft. Marks Del Toro hard-on is clouding his judgement, cos Shape of water was pretty average too, Pan Labarynth still amazing though.
