There is no business class upgrade on the Acela. Like you said, the Acela is just business & first class-there is no coach. The Northeast Regional (same route as Acela, just a bit slower) does offer business class and coach. On this train, business class is NOT worth the upgrade. The seats in the cars are essentially the same and the only 'perk' is free unlimited non-alcoholic beverages.
I got lucky and managed to find an Acela business class seat for the same price as a Northeast Regional coach seat. If you get lucky just like me, then I guess it's worth taking the Acela due to its shorter journey time and slightly more premium feeling. Otherwise, if you want a "premium" experience, just book Northeast Regional business class - in many case, it's cheaper than the standard class on Acela
