I was really disappointed that there was no Preston Garvey to tell Lucy about the next camp that she had to go save...

All of them are on sale currently on various platforms. You are watching this, so you have prime. If you check your prime gaming benefits a few of them free free, like 76 and Fallout Tactics. A couple others like Fallout 3 (which I think would be a good starting point) and New Vegas are available to play for free streaming thru prime.

fallout 4 is decent for newcomers. and the timeline itself of this game is 8 years before the tv series after the bombs dropped. although the intro of fallout 4 takes place around the same time of the first scene of episode 1 although i won't spoil that part of fallout 4 for you.

Fallout 4 is still my favorite, and has the most modern look, but 3 and vegas are good too (and super cheap). That then 76 you can play for free.

If you want a more western feel, play Fallout New Vegas. If you're more into the urban future, then Fallout 4. Both are great in their own ways.

This looks like it mainly focuses on _Fallout III?_

Fallout 1&2 are isometric turn based Rpg's. Both have incredible writing, but the gameplay can turn some people off whi are used to more modern games. Fallout 3 is when it became a first person actio rpg. Its good, but then New Vegas takes everything 3 did and just makes it better. It improves the rpg elements the writing and a little bit of the gameplay. 4has the best action gameplay, but simplifies the rpg elements and the writing isn't quite as good as New Vegas. The only ones that it really matters what order you play them in is you should play 1 before 2. Other than that do them in any order you feel like.

Mega, if you can handle retro games, start with the original Fallout and follow up with the whole series: Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas (the best imho), and Fallout 4. If you don't care for retro isometric games from the 90's then start with Fallout 3. I've played all the Fallout games except Fallout Tactics and Fallout 76. Neither of those have a very good rep.

It's older, and may be technically weird on newer computers, but I started with Fallout 3. The story and overview of the world is really great. Older Fallouts may be fine, but I don't feel like I missed anything starting with Fallout 3. Then play Fallout New Vegas, and then Fallout 4. Fallout 76 is a multi-player, and while I enjoy it, you definitely want more world lore before doing that game.

Personally, I like the atmosphere of Fallout 3 most. It's not overly cheery or handheld like New Vegas or 4 are. For me, the best part is exploration, finding new parts of the world. Bethesda are known for two things: Environmental Storytelling and Bugs..
But, Fallout 3 is 15 years old game, thus making some download to work can be hard.. (GOG patches games well, it works at least up to Windows 10). For an easy single player option I'd say try Fallout 4. GOG has nice discounts at the moment. F4 is 10euros, older ones are merely 6,66€.
There is also online-multiplayer Fallout 76, but it's kinda mess with premium passes, micro transactions etc. Not my style.

The good thing is that all the Fallout games are independent of each other, so the order they are played in isn't really important. My Personal favorite was Fallout 3, I liked the mixture of Wasteland and Washington DC's ruins... Fallout 4 was the weakest so far for me, and I never tried 76.
