I have in my possession a good number of Darbaris sung by the great maestro and I have heard him live many a time. But this one is decidedly the best. When I hear this one-- and I have heard it several times-- I cannot hold by tears. The drut teental Bandish, a very rare one, ("meri palkh na ..") is simply superb ! There are good artistes galore, but Ustad Amir Khan was a true 'saadhak' As an 83-year old.music lover, I salute Subratababu for uploading this gem of gems. Forgive or ignore those who, because of their different wave-length, cannot appreciate. Might be, one day, they will .
I agree with Kalyan Bhattacharya Ji. I started listening this raga since 2012 when I was 74 years of age. The raga makes me feel tranquilized and helps me focus directly on the issue on hand and the solution appears in a matter of minutes. Now at the age of 82, the memory appears to be better than what it was in 2012. I started with two discs Taskeen Vol 1 and Vol 2 in 2012 and now collection has increased to several hours of Ustad Amir Khan melodious classical music. Thanks Ustad Amir Khan and Subrata Chowdhury. Gurbir Singh
We had cassettes of Ustad Amir Khan, Bade Gulam Ali Khan, which I used to listen. I was born in 1990 and so did not get a chance to listen live. But I cherish to even this day that my childhood has been spent around the bliss of such great personalities. Cassettes do not work nowadays, so I sneak into UA-cam. Thank you for uploading.
Its very late that I opened this video. Amir khan was the best Darbari singer I have ever hears.. Unfortunately I could not pay my homage personally at the time of his death by accident I was at Delhi for quite a time during 1973-74..
The heaviness of atmosphere created by Khansahib's Darbari Kanada always takes me to a place of bittersweet/melancholic endings...listening in our current times, it reminds me of the ending of old world orders, endings of plants/animals, endings of the old ways traditions, connections...sad, yet profound
Ustad Amir Khan Saheb was a stalwart among the leading vocalists of classical music ,during his period. His performance ,rendered soberly with his melodious voice ,specially in respect of Raga Darbari Kanara, the king of all the Ragas in Hindustani classical music, added a new dimension to this Raga ,a devotion of super natural beauty, to unfold the inherent depth and beauty of the Raga gradually from udara i,e the initial saptak below mandra saptak,.with beautiful bistar with gamaks as necessary intermittently in the performance has made it a musical grandeur.
Ustaji belonged to Indore Gharana,a creation of Gharana of his own style almost similar to that of Kirana Gharana..His melodious and barritone voice had made almost all his renditions of Khyal ,mesmerizing..
Not adequate o call this awesome, spiritual, for it is great in an undefinable way. Here is the ultimate Darbari in all its glory and grandeur. Grateful thanks Subrata Babu: Tayyab Khan
Can say with a measure of confidence that this is the definitive Darbari by khan saab to circulate in the public realm. Words cannot express my gratitude to the generosity of Subarta ji. Posterity will ever thank you, sir.
This is so similar to the Darbari Kannada played by Ustad Munir Khan, my favourite sarangi player! No wonder he was known to regularly accompany Ustad Amir Khan!
The vilambit is surely the best ever in this raga by the maestro, with immeasurable depth. It simultaneously induces profound calm and lifts the spirit to a different realm. Actually words just can't express the effect it induces, it is simply divine.
A shorter(18 min.)version of the vilambit bandish 'Eri bir ri' happens to be the first long-play disc of Ustadji released by HMV in 1960, (with the raag Marwa on the other side). What a heaven of difference between the two versions when you compare the two, so far as raag elaboration Is concerned. Notably, In this version the Adarang composition is incompletely rendered. The antara has been totally omitted by ustadji. Would some connoisseur friend comment on this?
He was influenced by the Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan Saheeb of The Great Kirana Gharana but afterwards his own gayaki was developed and it was famed by Indore Gharana. Father of Ustad Amir Khan was a great Sarengi player.

👏🕉️Many thanks for upload. Listened to it after long time. My grandfather used to start his early mornings with Rag darbari. A warm hug Subrata ji
grandfathers are awesome.
Technically, Darbari is a night time raga but listening to it in the morning is nice too.

Can someone please provide lyrics of this bandish ?
New to raga darbari, can't understand bandish's bol.
MATCHLESS!
اس سے زیادہ پر سکون آواز نہیں سنی۔
Darbari and Marwa are two such raags which only Khan Saheb has the license to sing. Today's artists should just stop singing these deep raagas.

That flourish at 41:30 is in itself a spiritual experience. There are no words to describe it.
