    I tried taking photos of my ledstrips. The 5050 12v strip flickered alot. While the 24v (I think it's 5050 aswell) didn't flicker in the camera (Samsung mobile). Worth to mention is that the 12v is hooked up to my Asus motherboard and the 24v is connected to a power adapter...

    Thank you for taking the time to record, edit and post this video, very helpful. My only criticism, make that constructive criticism, is your low audio. Just a suggestion, I solved my issue by purchasing a wireless lavaliere or lapel mic and I went with one for under $50 (lots are reviewed right here on UA-cam by individuals that are actually qualified to make such a review. I couldn’t be happier with the results, quality and reliability and range of the brand and model I purchased. Just a friendly suggestion as an affordable, easy way to improve your audio on future videos. Good luck with whatever you choose (if you choose to do anything at all) and thanks again for sharing your video.

    great vid. I'm running a 24V RGB strip in a ceiling crown molding approx 64 ft long. I was going to use a 200w 24V 8.3 amp output power supply and parallel the power to a point in the leds down the line with a power repeater . Since I can only get access at one end of the run to connect the power.

    Very clear videos, thank you! I would like to make a question: Can I use two 12V power supplies to power a 24V LED strip? Or maybe use two 12V connectors from a PC power supply to get them? I bought a LED strip kit with a wifi controller and a power supply included but the manufacturer made a mistake and I got a 12V one. They will send me a 24V one, but while it arrives I would like to test and play a little bit with the LED strip to see if it works, so it's not for a permanent solution. Maybe there's an easy way and some others could benefit from a video about that

      Thanks Alarma!, Yes you can actually get 24v from the 2 x 12v power supplies wired in series . Regarding the PC side of things, I am unsure on how the PC would work but checked on a forum and found this answer:
      'Can you connect two power supplies in series to add their voltage? Yes, IF at least one of them is FULLY FLOATING, i.e. not referenced anywhere to ground.
      Can you use a PC power supply for one of the sources? Seems very doubtful. Virtually all PC power supplies are GROUND referenced and you would have to be very careful to make a ground-referenced power supply the "lower" (0-12V) half of the series string, with the "upper" half (12-24V) being the fully floating supply.
      '

    Thank you for the information. I am looking for adequate power supply for two strips 5050 SMD, 3m each, 12V, 14.4W (I read on InStyleLED website that 14.4W per metre light strips should be 24V). The power supply that I received in the pack burnt (12V, 6A). I suspected it would happen as it was overheating from the beginning. Both strips were connected to the power supply using a sort of adapter that brings the wires from the strips into one connector attached to power supplied via a short cable with a switch. I would be grateful if you could advise what type of power supply I should use for my strip lights.

    what about 18 wattage to 24 wattage, how much difference is the brightness

    • @CullenJWebb
      @CullenJWebb 3 роки тому

      Watts are a measurement of total power used (Volts * Amps = Watts). So a 12v LED drawing 2 amps (12v * 2a = 24w) and a 24v LED drawing 1 amp (24v * 1a = 24w) will both have the same power draw, and theoretically the same brightness assuming all other things are the same.
      So for your question about 18w or 24w the 24w draw would be brighter whether you are accomplishing that power usage with a 12v or 24v system.

    Hey there, hopefully you see this. I had a quick question. Right now I’m looking to line about 65 ft (approximately 20 meters) of continuous connected LED strips around my ceiling. How best could I do this without a significant voltage drop off at the end of the LED strand? I was thinking of using a 24v LED strip with a 24v power adapter and hoping that’s enough to keep the voltage consistent. If that’s not plausible, how does a 12v power supply at each end of a 24v LED strand sound? Thanks!

    • @InstyleLED
      @InstyleLED  4 роки тому

      Hi Kurtus. Graet question! Its all down to which strip you use. as some have a maximum of 5m powered from one end and some have a distance of 10m powered one end and some even have a distance of 20m powered from one end.
      Lets go worst case and say 5m maximum. then you can still use one power suply to power the full 20m strips, but you would have lets say the power supply in a cupboard and you would take 2 core 1mm cable to both opposite corners of the room and from each point you would run 5m left and 5m right.
      see some examples here on the wiring section www.instyleled.co.uk/support/how-to-install-led-tape-large-projects/

    Thanks for the information. If I have 12m of 24v rgb (ceiling uplighting) and wanted to run them from a single driver and wifi receiver, what would be the best way to configure the wiring?

    • @InstyleLED
      @InstyleLED  5 років тому +1

      Hi Steve, I would split the 12m into 2 x 6m runs so that you avoid any voltage drop along the strip. If you then have a starter lead on each 6m strip, use a connector block to join both cables to a single 5 core 1mm cable that goes back to the one power supply. Wit the 1mm cable the power supply can be up to 10m away from the strips. If you need this to be further away use 1.5mm cable up to 15m.

      If you have corners to go round then... If you are sticking the strip on its back facing the ceiling, then it usually is best to have corner links (small cable to bend round the corner), these can be sooldered in or you can buy push connectors, or in some cases you can fold the strip over on itself but this may cause a 'hotspot' or be quite difficult to do and can cause damage. if you are sticking the strip on its side facing the wall then ou can bend the strip round the corner no problem at all

    Hey, I had a question.
    I just got 2 strips of SMD 5050 rgb Led's with the same led's per meter:
    1- 10m 24v strip for the perimeter of my room
    1- 5m 12v strip for my desk
    Is it possible to trim the excess 12v strip from my desk and use a 12v amplifier to attach it to the 24v line to finish my perimeter. Is it ok to have different voltage strips attached through an amp like this? I wanted them to be on the same controller this way. Or should i just buy more 24v strip and a 24v amp if I'm only adding maybe a meter or two? I wanted to avoid the extra cost.

    • @InstyleLED
      @InstyleLED  5 років тому

      Hi Vicente,
      Thank you for your question!
      You cant mix the 12v and 24v strip on the same power supply.
      What you can do though using your strips, is have 2 power supplies and use 2 receivers, and control them together from one controller. (If you use the correct controller and receivers) this way you can select all the strips that you have together from the one remote.
      Or you could buy more 24v strips and power them from one power supply and one recever and controller.

      we usually use soldered connections as the cable can then be a shorter size, the thing with the connectors are they have a 100mm or 150mm cable between the connectors which is usually too long to hide the cable. They do still work well though

    And a cut point is?

    • @InstyleLED
      @InstyleLED  4 роки тому +1

      this is the section that you can cut and the lights will still be working. so if you cut along the cutpoint the lights that are still attached to the power supply will work right up to the cut point. if you cut on an area that isnt a cut point then the lights will not work up untill the nearest cut point. This is the way the strips are made , in basically smaller sections to make up longer lengths. If an LED is danaged it will only affect that cutpoint, and it can be cut out and replaced, rather than affecting the whole strip.

    I want to do a 24V 5050 RGB perimeter lighting set up in my room. I need 48 feet (~15m) to line the perimeter.
    I need 3 strips, each at 40 watts, so that works out to a power supply rated for 24V 120 watts and 5 amps. I will overbuild the setup and use a slightly more powerful power supply for leeway and less strain/heat.
    The only thing I can't figure out is if I will be able to run this setup without my lights getting dimmer at the end of the strip. Will this work? If not, is there a way to fix this? Is higher voltage the only answer, or will more watts/amps somehow solve this?

    • @tedo3332
      @tedo3332 Рік тому

      The voltage will give you the distance but the wiring can only handle so many amps. 18guage wire will heat up and cause a fire at 48v so you can't go that high. at 24V you should be OK pushing out 10Amps as 18AWG is 6.4Ohms per foot. A solid core 18AWG would be best for delivery to your strips. Each LED has resistance so if you run wire to more strips that are shorter then you would do better but you should be OK. I would run an 8Amp transformer and run three separate wires to the strips from the transformer.

    • @tedo3332
      @tedo3332 Рік тому

      Yes but you need a step up transformer and a lot of power to push it. 72Watts on 24V would be 144W on 12V and that wouldn't include the transformers needs. To run that you would probably need to increase your wire gauge to your sub and the transformer as your amps would increase.

    • @InstyleLED
      @InstyleLED  4 роки тому

      Hey, thanks you for your question! I dont quite understand the start part about your room? If it is a RGB system with a controller, my advise would be to do a test missing out the controller (or reciever as I would call it)
      So you should have,
      LED strip
      handheld Remote
      Reciever
      Power supply
      Wire the LED strip directly to the power supply, missing out the receiver. You can test each individual colour this way also, then if this is working and you reconnect to your reciver and it does not work, then you have narrowed the fault down to the controller / receiver

    • @InstyleLED
      @InstyleLED  5 років тому +2

      Hi Sherif. What wattage is the LED Tape and what voltage? As an example lets say the strip is 12v and 9.6w per metre. The calculation would be, 15m x 9.6w = 144w total.
      Then you divide the total wattage by the voltage, so 144(w) divided by 12(v) = 12 amps total so you would need a 12amp total receiver.
      Being RGBW you divide 12 amps by 4 channels so 12(a) divided by 4(channels) = 3amps per channel .
      We have this remote and receiver which is 4 x 5amp (20amp total) see here: www.instyleled.co.uk/wireless-rgbw-controller-for-led-tape/

    • @glennkon
      @glennkon 4 роки тому

      You will need 2 separate 12v strips to do this properly. You will be joining the two strips together to create two 12v lights with their inputs in series. That makes them the equivalent of a single 24v load.
      Your connections should be as follows: 24v Supply Negative to Strip One Negative, Strip One Positive to Strip Two Negative, Strip Two Positive to 24v Supply Positive.
      If you plan on using a switch, make sure to treat the paired lights as one single fixture. Do not put a switch in the middle connection between the two fixtures, you could cause damage to happen to the lights. If you put the switch on the 24v positive or negative, things will be just fine. I hope this helps

    I have a 24W 24v strip. Can I run it with a 12v x 2a = 24w power supply?

      No. There's not enough voltage to excite the LEDs (won't light up/won't conduct).
