See, this less nasty side of the character should have been explored more. How often does a cartoon villain show any form of compassion or admiration to their would-be victim? It could have led to great character development.
+PyroGothNerd I know, right????? Honestly, I would've liked to have seen Cat R. Waul start to question his motives, and to have second thoughts on annihilating the mice.
1:25 That's a good attention to detail there with the reflection of Tanya in his eye glass. Of course I never paid attention to that when I was little but now that I'm older it's like I'm finding new details and meaning to my childhood favorites now. lol Very beautiful song in whole.
in this case caterwaul would have still destroyed the mice but after hearing Tanya sing I don't think he would have killed Tanya I think she would have been safe because she could sing her singing touched his heart
+Mike Rivera Yeah. Had Cat R. Waul's plan succeeded, I'm fairly certain he would have at least spared Tanya. Vile though he was, he had enough of a sense of taste for the finer things that for him to destroy such a beautiful voice would be akin to burning an original Rembrandt painting.
I have this Movie and hearing Tanya sing was breath taking. And Cat R Waul might have a hidden romance. I love this song and i could play it over and over again!
Xzamilloh How is what I said sad? I was just trying to show a point that you don't have to look something up to know it's true. I've seen this movie who knows how many times and I had already known who sung this without once ever having to look it up.
Am I the only one who had a crush on Tanya when I was a kid? I am almost certain that I thought she was pretty as he** when I was 7 and I was enchanted by her voice just like raul. Seeing her years later she's actually prettier than I remember. She also reminds me of my crush in real life. Thanks Tanya for enchanting my seven year old self with your looks and voice. You will always be my first cartoon crush. :-)
One of my favorite childhood movies. Like a true 90's kid, I stopped, wrote the words, re-winded the movie, played a bit more, and wrote the next line to this beautiful song.
I love that she's so invested in what she's doing that she remains oblivious to the fact her dance partner is actually a cat paw. Or that she gets picked up and carried away.
Well you have to remember that this movie was released more than 20 years ago (hell the first American Tail was released in 1986, close to 30 years ago) so unless you remember it from your childhood or someone shows it to you, no not too many people will know about this wonderful movie.
I've seen both of them (in my childhood) and no one else my age that I have spoken to seems to have seen it, which is a shame because I thought they were great movies.
I read your opinion about Cat R. Waul. What a relief, I'm not the only one who thinks this! That they should've made him a bad guy turn good, yet they didn't. What the heck, right? All lame joking/controversy aside, I surely love this song:)
I always loved this song not only for how beautiful it was but by how it did a dance number with 2 characters of a vast size difference. Moving in time together so fluidly to the music and yet the cat barely moves at all. Amazing work of animation.
Tanya Mouskewitz has a gift. It's not every kid's movie that a villain as loathsome as Cat. R. Waul would forget about a mouse being just that and see her as a diva. Unfortunate really, that he wanted to crush the rest of her family and the other mice with a mousetrap. I'm so happy that by the end, Tanya realized she didn't even need her face painted with makeup to know she was beautiful inside and out.
Please don't cheapen it like that. This film, is a classic, this scene in particular, is art. Not some cheap kids show slapped together solely to shill toys.
I always found this song so inspirational as a kid, and the impact has stayed with me. Recently I actually recorded a cover (I won't paste a link- you can go to my channel if you're interested). But nothing beats the original. The accompaniment is just so gorgeous.
K, I didn't want to believe it, but there is something phallic drawn in. It's not at 1:57. It's at 1:56 for me. It's very quick. Looks like a sketch on one frame.
If this song/scene taught me anything its that you never sing with your eyes closed, or you'll end up being the diva to a evil cat who wants to make a big mouse trap.... Where was I going with this again? oh yeah LOVE THIS SONG.
I never thought about this before, but what the heck did she make with that powder? It looks like she's painting letters on the window with it, but since when does dropping paint all over page illustrations brighten them?
+ElNingyou - I'm guessing it was powder soap she was putting into water and using it to clean the window with. I don't think it was paint. I never shows the paint rubbing up against the window when she runs the brush up against that worn off letter. Only clear watery stuff. But I could be wrong.
something about his lost face while searching for her voice just gets me in my heart and i cry so much listening to this song and watching this scene kjhgfdsdfghjk
No, it's cute! He's a dastardly bastard, but he loves that cute voice! He doesn't even care about how she looks, just loves that voice! "STOP!!! YOU'LL CRUSH THE DIVA!!!"
Tanya- This is my favorite song, and thanks to Leo it's become the theme to the Dreams To Dream Foundation. Help with the movement for a better tomorrow and help the kids full fill their dreams. Please visit Leo's Google Plus page to learn more about the charity.
am 32 now, as I was watching Fievel Goes West again since I was I child...I preciously remember this song, even if bits of it only, now I remember it completely...thanks for this video, it brings such a good child memory marveling what love is :D
This was my favorite scene of the movie when I was little =) But I remember thinking that he was almost falling for her here. Which, you must admit, would've made a really interesting story. A cat in love with a mouse. That's a first ;^)
Yea! The real one. Somebody was finally nice enough to put it up! This is one of my favorite cartoon moments ever. The dance is beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much! God bless!
I was about 4 years old when I heard this when me and my big sister were watching this in the living room. Good memories. Strong poetry. I still believe these words.
When I first heard this song, some of the family were watching it I was involved with a game of Battletech with others. I walked away for a drink and have to say, I was affected just like that cat was.
o -o I had this question for really long time (ever since I was little) but what is that powder that Tanya uses to clean? The can says mustard on it but... mustard and wine?? Does anyone know?
does anyone know where i can find the instrumental version?? i found one was it was a little different.....i want this version just with the singing taken away
See, this less nasty side of the character should have been explored more. How often does a cartoon villain show any form of compassion or admiration to their would-be victim? It could have led to great character development.

I like to see anti-heroes built that way. Oh, the head-canons.
+PyroGothNerd
I know, right????? Honestly, I would've liked to have seen Cat R. Waul start to question his motives, and to have second thoughts on annihilating the mice.
PyroGothNerd r456777777iiiiiiiio
I totally agree. I think that’s why I like his character so much. He isn’t all bad.
Exactly.
I can't help finding it rather cute how enraptured Cat R. Waul was by her singing.
1:25 That's a good attention to detail there with the reflection of Tanya in his eye glass. Of course I never paid attention to that when I was little but now that I'm older it's like I'm finding new details and meaning to my childhood favorites now. lol Very beautiful song in whole.
Watching this now that I'm older, I adore how she transfixed that cat just by singing.
Rest In Peace James Horner
Yes indeed. One of my favorite composer's.
Anyone else getting a Phantom of the Opera vibe from this?
I do see that vibe
Imagine Don Bluth will do a hand drawn animated movie adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The PHANTOM of the OPERA by Disney.
And often in a movie does the badguy drops his evil plans and being moved to tears by someone he plans to destroy.
in this case caterwaul would have still destroyed the mice but after hearing Tanya sing I don't think he would have killed Tanya I think she would have been safe because she could sing her singing touched his heart
At the end of the movie, that is what actually saved the mice. he stopped the inventor from triggering the trap because she placed herself in the trap
For as long as I live. This song will never leave me.
such a good message in this movie. ever come across a bully? just give them the LAAAAAAAAZY eye
😂😂😂
shadedgreyART 🤔😑😤😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😪😪😪😪😪😪😪
This scene and all the tiger scenes is the reason why this is one of my favorite movies of all time.
when ever i watch this part i feel there's an untapped romance between Tanya and Cat R Waul.
+faith chea - Same here.
I have this Movie and hearing Tanya sing was breath taking. And Cat R Waul might have a hidden romance. I love this song and i could play it over and over again!
Me too!! I did it yesterday while I was playing Solitare!
Me too!
I love how the cat just grabs her and she doesn't notice at all...
This song is both timeless and overshadowed by Somewhere Out There
1:26 My reaction when i heard this song after 13 year ;_;
Omg I am tearing up. I was so young when this came out.
Me too can't believe how sad this makes me feel now
Last time I saw this movie i was just a kid wacthin it with my momma now here i am older now without momma heart broken miss you mom
Sorry for your loss
Does anyone else imagine Blossom from the Powerpuff Girls singing this? Because the woman who voice Blossom also voiced Tanya! =D
No...and I imagined the only reason you shared this was because you wanted to show us that you can navigate Wikipedia...well, gold star for you.
Xzamilloh To tell you the truth I already knew that Cathy Cavadini (the voice of Blossom) and I DIDN'T have to look it up on Wikepedia. I just knew.
inuyasharules31 Wow...that's kind of sadder. Sorry to bother you.
Xzamilloh How is what I said sad? I was just trying to show a point that you don't have to look something up to know it's true. I've seen this movie who knows how many times and I had already known who sung this without once ever having to look it up.
inuyasharules31 Yeah.....I know. Have a great day.

Samuel Black She's how I figured out I'm not straight...
she's beautiful!!
Nope, I honestly think she's the main culprit responsible for turning me into a furry.
the chills

Chad Hauntz some would say BETTER than somewhere out there
1:56
wtf animators
make this song popular
Yeah this should be the animated movie song that people talk about, not let it go XD
Seriously, can we do this? Make them release Celine Dion’s version. It’s out there somewhere.
I love that she's so invested in what she's doing that she remains oblivious to the fact her dance partner is actually a cat paw. Or that she gets picked up and carried away.
This song makes me tear up a little
I won my school talent show with this song and it still remains one of my favourite movies
This scene made me feel all my dreams can come true as a little girl...
Even after 18 years, I can still not get over the American tails, especially the songs such as this one.
If only they extended the movie time a bit more to show more of their relationship.
Who'da thunk Blossom's voice actor was so amazing at singing?
1:57 For fuck's sake, it's REAL! O____O
... What's real?
Yes I am curious about your statement too. What's real? I didn't notice anything weird about that part in the video.
*****
You have to stop it fast to see it, but here is the clip in slow motion: watch?v=T5vt6a2khbw

Altarior how about that lol, thanks for the reply would have never guessed that was in the movie.
Is it just me or has hardly anyone seen this movie?
Well you have to remember that this movie was released more than 20 years ago (hell the first American Tail was released in 1986, close to 30 years ago) so unless you remember it from your childhood or someone shows it to you, no not too many people will know about this wonderful movie.

Same for me. I'm french and I was the only boy who saw theses beautiful movies :)
I've seen it enough times for everybody on earth I guess :) I've got the first two films on DVD and VHS. Good times.
Saved her brother's life and never even knew it.
I'm a metalhead, but this still gives me goosebumps
1:57 PINGAS
This was my favorite part as a kid

Tanya is a lean, mean singing machine. She sings like an angelic princess. Thumbs up if you agree.
GOOOSEBUMPSSSS
Please don't cheapen it like that. This film, is a classic, this scene in particular, is art. Not some cheap kids show slapped together solely to shill toys.
If I heard a woman singing like that I'd fall in love immediately.
My God, she sings like an angel...
I always found this song so inspirational as a kid, and the impact has stayed with me. Recently I actually recorded a cover (I won't paste a link- you can go to my channel if you're interested). But nothing beats the original. The accompaniment is just so gorgeous.
OMG AT 1:57 THERE IS A PENIS GOING INTO HER MOUTH XDDDDDD
I didn't see one.
Kasey Nolan You have to pause it at the EXACT right time
Mary Akers paused it at several spots at 1:57 even when it was fading to black; no penis.
Sephiroth21682 Your just not pausing at the right moment.
Just look up a video of someone talking about maybe
K, I didn't want to believe it, but there is something phallic drawn in. It's not at 1:57. It's at 1:56 for me. It's very quick. Looks like a sketch on one frame.

Where was I going with this again? oh yeah
LOVE THIS SONG.
I love how the nobleman of the cats has to take a breath after hearing a low level mouse sing.
I never thought about this before, but what the heck did she make with that powder? It looks like she's painting letters on the window with it, but since when does dropping paint all over page illustrations brighten them?

Play 1:56 - 1:58 at .25 speed, and look near Tanya's mouth.
something about his lost face while searching for her voice just gets me in my heart and i cry so much listening to this song and watching this scene kjhgfdsdfghjk
i always cried at this part
All I can hear now is Blossom
I came here because a certain fanfic told me to and I am not regretting it one bit
+Akimoto Kumiko pretty sure you came here from the sound of Tanya's amazingly vocals...
+SomethingNowhereMan nope, never even heard of this movie before. therefore impossible
fanfic, now I'm curious, what's it called?xD
Good to hear. 🖒
I wish James Horner still wrote these sorts of songs. They're just... I can't... How did... It goes beyond words. Magic, deep soul stuff, something.
Mystical..
Beautiful song here :)
First new comment in 6 years
My goodness, I remember watching this movie so long ago! I don't even remember the story as much, but at the same time it feels like home.
You will go so far in my dreams.
Screw the Shivers, I had tears. Brought back memories
Hidden Penis at 1:57
WHO ELSE GOT TINGLES
No, it's cute! He's a dastardly bastard, but he loves that cute voice! He doesn't even care about how she looks, just loves that voice! "STOP!!! YOU'LL CRUSH THE DIVA!!!"
omg i havent heard this song in literally 20 years....made me all teary....
I can imagine myself singing to Mr. Peabody from "Mr. Peabody and Sherman".
Never really appreciated this song back when I was a kid, but I'll be damned if it doesn't make me tear-up today.
I can't believe how beautifully this song is because I'm in tears right now because that's how well this song was thought out 😢😭🤧

Haha! My Little Poney huh? It should be super girly, but it's actually very funny!!!
When I first heard this song, some of the family were watching it I was involved with a game of Battletech with others. I walked away for a drink and have to say, I was affected just like that cat was.
I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THIS MOVIE! Oh my word.. HALLUCINATIONS EVERYWHERE IN THE DESERT
The people of New York must really really really really REALLY like music enough to through tomatoes at an angelic voice like her's
you guyssss.....I'm sitting here in a public computer lab crying. And this is like the 20th time I've watched this in a row haha
This just proves that even the cruel minded can see true beauty and show at least a hint of sympathy.
o -o I had this question for really long time (ever since I was little) but what is that powder that Tanya uses to clean? The can says mustard on it but... mustard and wine?? Does anyone know?
This song just moved me to tears. Thanks for bringing back a piece of my childhood. I havnt seen this in 15+ years
i love this movie i watched it in class the last day of school and we saw an american tail too :]
John Cleese is amazing, he steals the scene. The rest of the film was stolen by James Stewart.
what's with that glitch at the beginning or is it just me?
Inadvertently, his sister just saved his life there.
Oh my gosh!! I just now realized that she was working on her Papa's violin shop...
Tanya must be really stupid not to notice that she's being carried by a cat.
Isn't this the same girl who voices for Blossom from the Powerpuff Girls?
does anyone know where i can find the instrumental version?? i found one was it was a little different.....i want this version just with the singing taken away
FINALLY! Thank god! I've been waiting for this scene! Thank you so much!
Never thought that Powerpuff Girl Blossom could sing that good. ^_^
I LOVE their relationship. Call me crazy.
Fievel Goes West
Dreams to dream
I Love you
:) ❤️
1:30 to 1:44, always gives me shivers
This is the best scene in the film =3 the song is awsome
This is such a sweet scene! :)
Thanks for posting it!
This brings me back to my childhood!!!
Lovely song!!
this is one of the best an american tail sequels ever period. (:D
Awww
And to think this girl also did Blossom from PPG
