In this essay I will be discussing chapter 3 of the short story, “John’s Harsh Reality”, This story is actual quite interesting, I believe that we are in John’s head and the outside is a metaphor for his place to calm down. When he falls back into the carpet we are transported outside of his head into reality, John’s Charater is a Old man who wishes he was young and in college. When John States “I know who can help, My granddaughter Charlotte!” He reminisces of his granddaughter Charlotte who is currently not alive, which means John is not fully accepting his reality, his future where everyone and everything he loves is gone.
I think i understand. John went downstairs to the door that goes to his entrance, in which he has a space with a carpet and a sligthly elevated door so he can open it, he then went outside and complained about the troubles and tried to pick grass, but he felt too stressed and let himself fall across the door into the carpet, he then thougth about his dead grandaugther charlotte, which was the main reason he was stressed about writting an essay about an extict animal for his postgrade in archeology. So he decided to afront reality and went to charlottes funeral. But as the character in the video wasn't reading it with the correct sad voice, and instead was using a happy midly irritated voice, he added an extra unnecesary layer of complexity at understanding the text

Didn't you even read the beginning of the novel? This is set in a futuristic universe where the human lifespan has been drastically increased by medical advancements to the point where old people attend school again to brush up on what they forgot. They also invent carpets made out of grass.
It’s either that or the book is written like this: Jonathan descended the staircase with deliberate precision, each step a calculated engagement with the gravitational pull, orchestrating a symphony of biomechanical fluidity and structural elegance.

Thats why I pay attention to the lines while reading instead of reading like a dumb guy, I put my finger on the line where it goes to the next line and carefully drag it down a line, to the begining of the next line
As the best reader in my whole school district, (including teachers and principals and yes they are dumb in terms of reading) I can confirm I am very confused with what is happening in this video.
Ok wait, according to my logic this is what I think: the main character had one of those balconies that has stairs with railing that goes down, so he walks down and at the bottom his stairs end near his front door (on the first floor is where the front door is, which is near the bottom of the stairs) in front of his door he has a carpet/rug that says “welcome home”, he’s outside by the front door and picks grass, then falls back near his front door onto the rug. After being frustrated he says “I know who can help, charlotte” saying that he can take his mind off what he was frustrated about by focusing on going to the funeral to honor charlotte which is how she can help.
Simple.. john walks out the stairs does not only include the stairs, he walks to the door aswell, next to the door he picks grass from outside and then falls back into the carpet of the house leaving the grass behind, his nephew already has children and he believes in spiritual stuff so at the funerak he asks his beloved what to do as he mourns her death, boom, done
