I had a co-worker decide to unleash her hatred on me because during close-up chatting I let it slip that I don't love Oprah and feel she's irresponsible sometimes. Like what's wrong with a person who has to deify a celebrity so strongly? My co-worker has never met Oprah and hadn't even seen all her episodes or movies, yet was convinced she's perfect. All your favs are problematic, folks. If your co-workers don't like your fav, please just accept it and move on, if it's really that hard on you, just ask your co-worker to drop the subject, but trying to "correct" their opinion is just going to make it worse. ...It was kinda funny when my co-worker tried to get others to dislike me because of my opinion, as she uncovered similar opinions among other co-workers, it was just too bad this co-worker was the boss's pet.
I had a coworker that hated me. It turns out she was stressed due to taking classes while working full time. She kept getting frustrated and blaming me for a lot of stuff since I was the one she had to work alongside the most, meaning I was usually the closest target whenever she felt like she'd reached the point where she needed to blow off steam. I was thinking, look, I'm sorry you've got a lot going on right now, but I don't really see how continually trying to get me fired is going to help make things better for you.
Oh well, maybe you re just stupid and not noticing it, or you re working more than them so they also have to work more not to look bad ( literally my first 3 years on a job lol)
Yeah, if you work more than others they hate you, if you work less they hate you. If you bring up your hobbies and they are not the exact one as theirs, they hate you. Petty office politics all the way down.
As someone who has coworkers who hate me for no reason this definitely resonates with my soul, as someone who has coworkers who hates them for no reason
I don't purposely collect snails, but I do technically have a collection of snails... I'm very obviously a very weird person though, I do try to hide it so I only come off "a bit weird" 😅
I really don't like to see conflict like this, so I want to help Jimson and Duncan out. I've analyzed their interaction and I think I've discovered why they haven't built a bond in the 3 years they've been coworkers - they're trying to build a repertoire instead of a rapport. There, problem solved. You're welcome.
This one actually hits a little close to home! There was this dude I worked with in a cafe and for some reason or another he just hated me and I have zero reason why, like other staff would even ask him and he wouldn't know why he hated me or he wouldn't tell them. This is how petty he was; I went to get some gelati out of the stand up fridge and the handle broke off when I went to open it, told old mate what happened. Come back the next day to the handle fixed and a sign specifically naming me as the person who broke it, the sign read "Careful with the handle. Raziel broke it"
It’s funny because people really are like this. Obviously not everyone. But I’ve had something like this happen to me and I’m SURE there’s many people out there who’ve had similar experiences. Thank you Fairbairns!
Had a coworker who hated everyone, including me. But I knew it was just a hard shell they developed probably due to bullying or family issues. They were short tempered and sassy as hell, and just had a negative outlook on life. Probably only saw them smile/laugh a handful of times. They did have a decent sense of humor, but it was usually at someone else’s expense I made it a point everyday that no matter how hard this person tried to be I was going to be as nice as I possibly could. Even if they wanted nothing to do with me, I treated them like a best friend. 2 years later when I left that job, I’d thought nothing had changed. Then on my last day, she actually cried and said she’d miss me and gave me a big hug. This was so off character for this person I will always remember that day and the lesson I was taught.
If it took her 2 years to realize that on your last day that means she was a shit coworker the entire time despite that, and the lesson learned was that some people are thicker than a bunker door.
Once, I started work, my manager informed me before I came in I needed a 6 week on hands tour of everything, how it works, get practice and shadow them for a bit so I can understand everything confidently. A week later, they gave me a 30 minute hello, stuffed me in a room and told me to get on with it, if I had any questions they told me theyre dealing with something else at the moment, I told them itll only take a sec, I just need an answer, and theyd threaten me that I dont know how to do my job. So this is oddly realistic.
A few months ago I worked as a waiter at IHOP. I was trained in the art of waiting tables by a waitress of 3 years (let’s call her Sarah). Sarah decided that the first couple of tips that my tables left for me belonged to her. Obviously as a rational human being who needs money I was a little upset about this. I confronted her about her taking my tips, and she decided that she hated me and proceeded to make my life miserable for the rest of my time working there.
Was this your own shift or was she training you? Because usually if you're training wait staff, you as the trainer, gets the tips from the first few tables. Because instead of waiting tables, you're shadowing and training. It's pretty standard.
this extends to more than just coworkers. i tend to make myself believe that everyone hates me, even family, whether or not they've given any sign of such a thing.
I had a job as a vendor that went to different grocery stores. Had a particular store where I got along great with everyone except for one person. Never knew why, finally found out that he disliked me because he found out how much my employer paid and thought it was unfair.
This is just like my dad at his previous job as an assistant manager at home depot. The district manager didn't like him because he wasn't a bootlicker. Because of that, he got fired/quit. All of his employees under him absolutely loved him.
Wow. You have definitely been taking notes from my co-worker! The only difference is that I’m actually HIS boss, and there is nothing I can do because MY boss has a crush on him so I have to take it from him 😢
I can relate. One of my coworkers is the type of person who doesn't say sorry when they bump into you. I don't say sorry to them anymore because I'm glad if I slightly inconvenience them by being in their way.
I’ve recently been dealing with this so man did that hit on target. I have no idea what I did since no one else has a problem with me and I barely work with her. I think hating is just some people’s hobby.
Despite Lachlan’s unexplained hatred, I appreciate the honesty.

It’s just strange enough to make everyone think that he’s a bit weird…
A completely normal Australian name
I thought it was the name Jameson lol
