- On May 18, 2020 at 2359 hours NFD units were dispatched to 32 N. Buena Vista Street for report of a house fire. While responding the dispatcher advised they were receiving additional calls reporting smoke and fire showing.
This house had previously been set on fire on May 5th. You can view that video here. • Newark Ohio Fire Depar...
The following equipment was on the initial assignment:
Battalion-1 with a crew of 1 (Me)
Rescue-1 (engine/rescue) with a crew of 4
Tower-1 (105 ft platform) with a crew of 4
Engine-2 with a crew of 3
Medic-2 (firefighter/paramedics) with a crew of 2
Ladder-3 (100 ft ladder) with a crew of 3
Medic-3 with a crew of 2
The working fire announcement brought an additional 2 engines and 1 medic
Engine-52 (Heath FD) with a crew of 2
Rescue-51 (Heath FD-engine/rescue) with a crew of 3
Medic-201 (Granville FD) with a crew of 3
Upon arrival a 360 of the building revealed fire on the back side of the structure with fire extending to division-2. Because this house had previously been set on fire, all of the windows and doors were covered with plywood by our Property Maintenance Department.
Unfortunately most of the view is blocked by apparatus. Nothing can be done about this.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries at this fire. A firefighter was subsequently transported to the hospital due to an illness.
This video was recorded with a Motorola Z Force Droid cell phone, which limits the length of each video to about 30 minutes.

dang ole arsonst theyre gonna be in big troubble and arsonst should pay the fire department bill
Thank you.
Seems rescue and 1 engineer wanted to steal the show on this one, jealousy maybe 🤔
In all seriousness, the driver of Rescue-1 hired in with me some 30 years ago. He does a fantastic job.
@@commandvisionfire He does, as do all your people! Many should train from your lead sir.
Love the videos chief keep it up! I was excited once I seen the notification + just about to get a t-shirt as well thanks for the link! “Edit Just got one!”
1:42 - Get out my way! Cop was like yup your here now! lol
1:56 - Smoke showing it’s a worker / Size up ( if it was in the day time probably would have seen it sooner )
2:58 - Fire starts to flash out the back
3:15 - Thanks Rescue 1 !
7:42 - RUN!! Stretching line!
9:50 - Time get those ladders
glad to see another video from you david! Hope you and everyone are staying safe and healthy!
Hey, Rescue 1 down in front. 😆
I agree. Lol
It won’t bother the firefighters We’re used to seeing fires through the radio 🤣
THE BIGGEST QUESTION IS, did the department lose another extension ladder to the same building?!?!? I pray that all ground ladders made it home safely after this fire. :)
We did not. All equipment was return to its rig in good working condition at the conclusion of this one.
Yessir! More from the Chief! Happy holidays and stay safe!
I read the description. I hope the firefighter is ok. Omg.. Please tell me Mr. Decker that they caught the person doing this.. This is so immature to start this twice
Well it was good until rescue 1 blocked the view. Can you do more 360 walk arounds with you camera?
I'll try to remember to.
Ah yes another video finally, although we don't get to see much action it is very interesting to listen to the radio traffic, and yes I did listen all the way through
Hey chief I was thinking it would be cool if you clipped a GoPro on a orange cone. Then you could just set it in front of the building.
Wish I could say I’ve never been apart of an echoing radio on the fireground while trying to relay something important but I’d be lying 😂
We all do it.
Gotta love those 100' sections of LDH when you're pulling 70' to get to the next coupling. 🤣🤣
One of the reasons that I posted this video is because is shows how hard the driver/operator works, and how important their role is. Money can't buy a good driver/operator. They can anticipate the needs and already be moving that direction with whatever it is.
@@commandvisionfire Yup!
Nice video, even though the view was blocked most of the time. The visual that we did have and audio gave a good sense of what was going on.
Even though Rescue-1 & Engine 2 blocked the view, you can get a feel of what is going on from the radio traffic, perhaps visualise the scene. Interesting & professional as always.
Thanks.
What stops arson from happening on this house a third time?
Tearing it down?
Jail?
Where’s your helmet cam? I could have sworn I saw a video where you implemented that and this is a situation where it would have made this video very watchable. Keep up the great work and as always great job on the knock down!
Lol. I have a helmet camera. I seem to regularly forget that I have it. Dang it I'm getting old.
I never understood why people get a kick out of destruction especially through fire of someone's property. There could be a homeless person or animals inside. Sad world we live in. Stay safe. 🇮🇪🍀
Chief, just curious as to something I noticed when Rescue 1 arrived on scene. Their scene/flood lights were on and they are blinding lights. There is no way that traffic can see their emergency lights with those on. Do you know if they were on during their response or turned on once they arrived on scene?
No. They typically don't turn them on until they pull onto the street.
@@commandvisionfire Thank you sir. Not bashing y'all at all. Top notch department!!
@@kenturner2349 No offense taken. Before LED scene lights, the driver would have to hold the pre-start button for the diesel generator for 60 seconds before hitting the start button. All of this while driving lights and siren to a fire.
Rescue 1 is the workhorse of most of the videos I've seen of yours chief. Was fantastic to see them operate!! Engine 2 crew as well. Not seeing the fire building made it easier to see truck operation and to follow radio traffic. Another great job from your department. Arson angers me. Needlessly endangering neighbors and responders angers me. From a retired volly FF/Medic in Conesus, N.Y.
Rescue-1 is first due to the majority of our fires. And I would say either 1st or 2nd due to 90% of our fires.
@@commandvisionfire Since this place has been hit twice, I'd check with your firefighters and try to round up some trailcams to hide around the property to catch the firebug, cause there's a good chance it'll be hit again.
@@redbaron474 the place should be torn down.
Is Fire Investigator mandatory on call fires or just on suspicious fires?
Depends on the fire call a fire investigator is to find out what caused the fire and what not once the fire is out on scene units can ask for a fire investigator to be called out
Glad to see a new video sir, the calm style you use is one many could learn from. The communication tells a lot, the video is an added bonus. Stay safe and thank you for all you do
Another great video and IC example, despite the unfortunate block of the camera angle!
LOL, loved the siren blast upon arrival to get the Officers to hurry and move the patrol cars... Stay safe and healthy!
Right? MY scene...MOVE IT lol
Just won't give up on getting rid of this house, will they? Scary about the hole in the floor! I don't guess y'all can release any info on this or the previous investigation?
Awesome video guys thank you for your service and God bless
Of course I don't wish fire on anyone but I've been missing these videos.
I have always said that I don't wish bad stuff on anyone. But if it's going to happen, let it happen when I'm working.
I find it amusing that you pronounce "Buena" as "Byoona" as if it were German, rather than the Spanish "Bweyna", which means good... is there a history behind this?
Lol, the only history is that is the way everybody here has pronounced it for the 32 years that I have worked here. If I pronounced the Spanish way nobody would know what I was talking about. We have a handful of streets like that.
@@commandvisionfire gotcha....
Ha ha ha...I feel your pain. 30 minute videos of pump panels in my stash too.
Looks like this video ran into a bit of interference, nice looking trucks though. LOL Hey the good thing is I have the link going to order one of the flashlights, thanks
You will love it. I carry one with me. Best belt light I have ever owned. If you are interested in a different holster, the Blackhawk CQC flashlight holder works perfectly. You will have to remove the pocket clip from the flashlight but it holds the flashlight solidly.
Cheif thanks for your videos I watch almost all of them and learn a lot from your so calm and level headed on scene don’t see that a lot here in Jersey lmao thank you sir
I would like to see what it takes on clean up, and putting away hoses and equipment.
Chief , what was Rescue 1 Driver putting down on the back bumper? Tags?
Correct. It was the accountability board and he is placing passports on it as crews arrive.
Love you videos. Thank you!
Was this a rekindle or someone relight it chief?
Nevermind chief i answered my own question lol
I hear you call “I-20” on scenes, is that an investigator?
Yep, its an investigator
Correct. I-20 is our primary fire investigator.
Kudos from the clay county fire and rescue.
Love the fire vehicles love fire rescue 1 trucks to their cool
i really enjoy watching your vids. stay safe chief
Its to bad you guys put out the fire. Why do you not let the abandoned building burn to the ground. Why not just be there for a controlled burn. Why save these troubled abandoned buildings?
Might be a dumb question but if this home already had a suspicious fire and several days later it has another arson fire, why not just do a search to make sure no one is inside, then just protect all the exposures and let it just burn to the ground? Turn it into a training session? why risk the firemens lives?
The first 8 months of being in the fire service, I was told by couple different people that I had got more training and responded to more calls than most people get during their entire time of being on the volunteer fire Dept. All because of an arsonist running around all winter long in 2017, I would say what the hell am I doing out here these conditions suck!! but....to this day the next call I have hastily made my way to the station, calls would come in around 4 or 5am mutual aid, middle of winter in Nebraska, some mornings temperatures were at -10 -15 below zero, fully engulfed structures and a few times the very next morning same location different structure on the same property, water lines would freeze if you wasn't careful but always did before you could get it rolled up, my bibs and coat would freeze solid almost impossible to move, 18 structures and 1 vehicle in all, two 18 year old boys and it was the vehicle that got them busted, it was only 5-6 structures that they were held accountable for. Even though all 18 structures were abandoned homes, barns, garages, or concession stand at the park in 4 different towns, it was still arson and they were in serious trouble, they are lucky no firemen were injured. From that first call at -15 below I have had the upmost respect for firefighters for the extreme conditions they must endure to do their job, it's exhausting.
stay safe and make it home

Nebraska weather sucks major ass. I live up in Valentine.
Guess someone wants this house to burn
I hope the creep who set this fire, now twice, is put away for a long time. Sorry about the fire fighter who got sick. Thankfully, not one of your guys got seriously hurt
Chief who was the bystander in blue shorts and shirt he acted little suspicious to me standing behind rescue 1 for awhile then walked away
Did that cop give him the finger on arrival? Lol
I was wondering if I was the only 1 that saw that.
Slow the video down to .25 and you’ll see he’s waving him through with three fingers.
Awesome video!
Top notch IC, as usual, Chief!
Let’s go I love ur uploads
Is this a paid or volunteer department? I have found that there are not many volunteer departments anymore in Ohio.
According to figures provided by the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of the State Fire Marshal, 740 of the state’s 1,192 fire departments are staffed by volunteers rather than career firefighters.
We are a paid department. We have 84 full-time personnel operating out of 4 stations.
@@commandvisionfire Thanks for letting me know! That is awesome! Seems like a big department.

Thanks for the video Chief. Stay safe. Hope you and your are well.
Haven't seen any more recent videos in a while. Will there be more coming?
Thank you to the brave men and women that serves this community
A 12 midnight fire 🔥 call
Did that sheriff flip u the bird or am i seeing things lol
I don't think so.
I slowed the video down. It looks like he’s flipping the bird because he’s using two fingers and his thumb to wave him through.

What sort of radio system is used there? Analog...DMR...P25 conventional / trunked?
🌊🌊🔥🌊
Great video chief, your videos take me back to the days when I rode the engine as a Volunteer in the busiest station in the county, once your a first responder it stays in your blood.
Since we no longer have dial phones, wouldn't it be better to say CALL 911 rather then DIAL 911? Just wondering. Another fine DD production.
I have to be honest, I am so used to seeing those decals on our trucks that I never even gave that a thought. But yes, I'm guessing most teenagers wouldn't know how to dial a old style phone.
Can we text to 911? Never considered it...
@@dwaynecarroll6098 I know in Ontario, Canada, it is available in most urban areas. However, it is something you have to “subscribe” to as part of the deaf/ hard of hearing community.
I don’t mind listening to the radio traffic you and your crew are always amazing me anyway
Was this structure occupied?
i think it’s arson. an insurance claim probably. it’s been set on fire twice now
No. It was a vacant/abandoned home that had burned a couple of weeks prior to this.
@@clickbaitbutton2485 No insurance involved, but I think you are right about the arson.
@@commandvisionfire Any idea on motivation for torching an abandoned house like this? If there's no owner/insurance it's not insurance fraud. If unoccupied it can't be accidental or an attempt on the life of the residents. Just a pyromaniac looking for thrills, or is there someone who would stand to benefit from the house being gone?
Obviously if this is still an open investigation I doubt you can say much.
@@AndrewZonenberg Fires like this can be ruled "a human act" meaning that it started as result of a person, but not necessarily with the intent to destroy the building. For instance if a homeless person was burning inside of a pan to heat food or simply for warmth, that would be a human act. Or even a discarded cigarette would be a human act but not necessarily arson. However, if there was evidence of accelerants or other material to intentionally cause the fire that would be arson. And arson fire could be one homeless person made another homeless person living in this abandoned house. Or it could be a neighbor wanting to get rid of the house because they are upset with the homeless people going in and out. Possibly the owner who doesn't want to pay to have the house torn down as result of the previous fire. These are just any number of possibilities.
imm back
C'mon Chief Decker, Rescue 1 blocked the scene. No footage of fire attack, you have always been in position to record the Alpha, Alpha Bravo, and Alpha Delta.
Sometimes it just doesn't work out. I just have to roll with the punches and keep working.
10/14/20 my department and the backup department was called for a structure fire @ 10:30 we were there for 5 hrs that night, called back @ 7, 12:30, and then 6pm the next day. Still haven’t found a cause of the fire and the house was totally destroyed.
You could just grab the cones off engine or keep some in the back of your wagon. but I would drop a couple of cones in front of my car too I've seen some real fat people standing in front of your car Make a better door than a window .
