  • INTJ vs INTP - are you SURE you know what you are??
INTJs and INTPs can be difficult to tell the difference between. In fact, I just met 3 INTPs who used to think they were INTJs! These are my impressions of the two types in broad strokes. (Think caricatures). Sometimes the easiest way to highlight the difference is to use caricatures, and then look at which caricature you're closer to.

Edit from 2 years after this video was posted for Ti users ;)
Any time I say a behavioral example of how a type shows up like "I tend to notice a lot of ISTJs with fitbits" this is to ground the theoretical concept for viewers who have repeatedly asked me to give behavioral examples and to make content less abstract and confusing. However, any time I stray from motives and transfer to behavior, it will lose universal application. Any time I give an example like this it is not an absolute, it is not a rule, that behavior is not exclusive to that type, that behavior is not the exclusive manifestation of a type's motives, not everyone or even most of the type might do that thing; but it is simply a one-time example of how the motivations that ISTJs share could manifest - not how they must manifest.
In addition, different motivations aside from Si-Te motivations could also prompt someone to get a fitbit, so this behavior alone cannot be used to type someone. In my day to day life, I do not see people with a fitbit and therefore declare them an ISTJ. Any example I give did not come from inductive reasoning which gets applied universally like "I saw 3 ISTJs who wear fitbits therefore all ISTJs have fitbits." In addition these examples can be backed up deductively with Carl Jung's and Van Der Hoop's writing like "Si has finely attuned sense organs"; "Te likes outcomes and metrics" "therefore an example could be, but is not limited to, ISTJs wearing fitbits, especially when used to measure sense organs."
I have been working on Ti and thus curbing misunderstandings on this front, but in case I say something contrary to this belief, it was due to sloppy Te langauge (or it was a non-serious joke) and not because I believe differently. This series in particular has a lot of sloppy language so this message is getting copy and pasted to all these videos lol.
    Love ya babe xx

I have an advantage here. I'm 65 and just began analyzing my personality. So I can look back at my life and recognize the patterns. I always thought there was something wrong with me. Now I realize that's what it's like to have lived life as an INTP. Dealing with life's problems isn't any easier now, but I feel better knowing why I think and act the way I do.

MBTI is really good for explaining past actions, (you and I have probably both seen this) but should never be used as an excuse for present behavior. Maybe an explanation, but not an excuse.

INTP explains much better INTJ why, when I discovered my poetry had hit upon a moment that required regular meter and rhyme - formal poetry - I focused on it so totally that I stopped paying to the rent and went homeless for awhile. But also published a bunch of villanelles and double sonnets
I assumed I was INTJ+autistism spectrum. Now I get it that I'm INTP.

@@toddjacksonpoetry No. Things like poetry--original creations--that which comes from within--that's all Ni. Doesn't matter about the formal meter and rhyme. And that you would top paying the rent and go homeless--Se. Here is where people lack understanding of Si, which, among other things, is the focus on one's personal physical domain. INTP would never become homeless--risk, lack of comfort, safety, security--that's all Si. You are an INTJ. Also "disorders" like autism--that's Ni and Fi with volume turned way up.

Based on my experiences, as an INTP, and on my understanding of typology, I want to offer a hypothesis of sorts as to why at least some INTPs may believe themselves to be INTJs. Broadly speaking, I believe INTPs may experience a kind of evolutionary pressure to adapt themselves to an INTJ mode of being, both in school and the workplace. INTJs, I would argue, possess traits that make them more naturally able than are INTPs to make use of and produce results with their intellectual abilities that more closely conform with the expectations of academia and the business world. INTPs, on the other hand, often possess a kind of chameleon ability to blend in when needed. So, an INTP can learn to adapt her Ti/Ne explorative thinking engine into a kind of facsimile of an INTJ's results-oriented, focused, Te to-the-point expressiveness. Because this process of adaptation can begin in adolescence, perhaps in response to more than one of those "Fails to work up to her abilities" comments on her report card, and in an Fe inferior attempt to allay parental concerns, the INTP individual may be only half aware that she is constricting her still developing NE abilities and energy in awkward directions and is perhaps trying to impose a limit on the depth of Ti exploration, just in order to get her papers done on time and make everyone happy.

I only have a fairly superficial knowledge of Myers-Brigg, but I've certainly been getting mixed messages over the years as to whether I'm INTP or INTJ ... my older brother (an INTJ ... & proud of it) was something of an expert in both MBTI & enneagram and was pretty sure I was/am INTP ... But every time I take the test it's INTJ ... I suspect I'm strongly INT but mildly J or P ... test percentages certainly seem to indicate that (I'm guessing a mild P with a few J tendencies).

Appreciate the dive into negative traits! I'm an INTJ, I thought the religion discussion was interesting, especially given the stereotype of INTJs being atheist. (I do like the culty stuff myself.) Bookwise, I like horror in fiction and a mix of math and cognitive science in nonfiction.

I too am an INTJ and the atheist stereotype is probably coming from the general perception of religion being dumb. I am religous in the general understanding of that word, but only because I dived deep into both science and religion for about 25 years. So it really makes sense to me and I have a pretty precise answer for every question you could imagine which contradicts the popular idea of religion being unreasonable or based on feelings and beliefs only. The reason for all this however, is probably very INTJ. Because we like planing and thinking ahead and the most thinking ahead, is thinking about death and what, if anything, comes after - automatically leading to what came before and so on.

I get the feeling that INTJs in religion veer into religious epistemology. It's mostly theory building and system building. It often ends up being anti-authoritarian, while at the same time re-establishing another one another under 'their' moral code. If that doesn't scream INTJ, I don't know what does.

Ooh... INTJ vs INTP the eternal debate. The first online tests i took showed i am an INTP and i didn't question the results because i identified with the introversion, the rationality and the uneasiness in social interactions. After i researched cognitive functions, i started to think that i might fit more with the INTJ way of processing information and decision making.
-Religion: I am not a religious person but i find allot of meaning and wisdom in all kinds of religious philosophies. I view them as a kind of mythology that provides us with accumulated knowledge in the form of archetypes. Same goes with mysticism and occult stuff.
-Arguing: I have very strong opinions on things i have researched extensively and i don't mind expressing them. I am aware i might hurt someone's feelings so i'm usually very careful to make it clear that it's not personal. I stay rational when arguing online as well as in person.
-Knowledge: Knowledge is power only when its applied... enough said. In school i was a top student in classes i cared about and a very mediocre one in the ones i didn't.
-Communication: I like to get to the point, period.
-Books: I prefer books that have information or narrate stories relative to the topics i am interested in. I prefer sci-fi and fantasy movies/series for entertainment though.
-Music: I like music that carries some kind of meaning ether in the lyrics or in the feelings it creates.
So what do you think? Am i an INTP or an INTJ?

      @ojgfhuebsrnvn2781 3 роки тому +10

I am INTP. Because of the thing mentioned in the video i can't actually finish that test and i never get good results. In half of the question i see double meaning and answer neutral answer.
For example question "do you like to plan things?" Does it mean if i LIKE to plan or if i actually plan. And even if i plan, does it mean do i follow this plan or just plan in a hope i will follow it but never actually do?
I don't even get INT in the test but after researching every introverted personality one by one i don't see an alternative.
I see you are like me, not able to write short messages online =)
Religion: I am atheist and don't deal with any kind of superstition. I am so materialistic that when people say that someone has an aura in not religion sense i still don't understand what they mean (i do realize they are talking about impression this person gives them, but i don't understand in what way)
Arguing: I am also strong on opinions but if someone provides a good evidence i am not able to continue carrying my opinion or if i do, i change my mind later. Once i called to some guy and told "do you remember we discussed **** 3 years ago in my room? It was bugging me and i am just here to say that you were right" Unfortunately he didn't remember and laughed at this.
Knowledge: Knowledge is power and it is self-explanatory. It brings satisfaction when you become smarter. Most important thing in life is "to be alive" and "to be happy" all other things are secondary. If getting knowledge brings happiness it doesn't matter if it is applied.
Books: Only science books, For all the others we have movies and comics.
Music: though i wrote about music in my other comment, can't REALLY tell much because i have only about 10 songs in my playlist that i listen for more than 5 years already.

I relate to everything you said about INTJ, except for the music and books part. To be honest, it's way too subjective to generalize types based on what they read or listen to. I know you pointed out these are caricatures, but I also know there are people who will take them at face value, so I have to clarify this. In all, I tend to like philosophy, horror, and other useless (in comparison to the money-making and career-related) genres because I like them and I'm passionate about philosophy and horror. Not everything in my life is goal-oriented, I have useless passions and interests just like everybody else. Most INTJs aren't the caricature stuck-up boring hustling 100% efficient robots whose interests are solely based on work. Personality types aren't blueprints, just a rough sketch that one can use to learn about themselves, weaknesses, and strengths and become better.

    • @Gleichtritt
      @Gleichtritt Рік тому +1

Not wrong, but you zoomed in too much on that point. You have to judge the video as a whole and see every point as it is, just a tendency. After all, the Letters in your type always come with a percentage and one INTJ can have 51% thinking and another can have 89%, same Type, but different. That's why people often combine the MBTI with eneagramm (or however it's written) to get a more distinct result.

Philosophy and horror are far from useless. In regards to philosophy, it would be useless to live a life with a lack of understanding and moral guidance, it's the why of doing things in a particular way. Horror can be useful as a cathartic practice and make normal life seem a lot more manageable.
Totally agree on the robot caricature, but I also think everything is useful. If you look into it, you might not be achieving externally visible goals, but there is still value to be gained in the action.

for a moment there, i went like.. here we go again, i have no idea if I'm truly just deluded about being an INTJ that everyone speaks so highly of. all because i fucking love fiction. i read high fantasy, mythological fiction, epic fantasy and even sci fi. like I'd read something useful if i truly felt it was important. but if I'm just trying to blow off steam (which i do need to very often) i would do more useless shit than most people. because I'm efficient enough that after getting everything done, i still have a lot of time left to waste. am I deluded about being an INTJ?

I think you mean INTJs are far more passionate and self-involved in our logical approach, because we tend to specialise. I totally agree with the point about religion. I always see INFJs being related to beliefs in the occult, astrology, higher power, etc., but not INTJs. Probably because INTJs, as a thinking type, are seen as too rational to believe in those things, but the truth is Ni + Fi makes this type especially inclined towards those things. I venture to say that perhaps even more than the INFJs.

INTP perspective: thinking of the people in my life who I think would be classified as INTJ (or ENTJ) I would say that we tend to find each other interesting, and enjoy each others company, as we often tend to find the same sorts of things and conversations interesting. However, we frequently find we have completely different, mutually incomprehensible approaches or worldviews within that. From my INTP side of the fence, that difference tends to be more intriguing, while the INTJ/ENTJ position I think is the more likely one to find exasperation in it (maybe that's just a personal effect of me, but I get the sense there's something more to it as well! 😄). The relationships are ones that are never entirely comfortable in the sense that we'd never have some sort of telepathic understanding, but are rather ones of mutual respect and permanent fascination. And while we really do get along well, we also appreciate a break after spending too long in each other's company!

As an INTP I hate debating with INTJs. I process a lot of information and have a general connected thread between them. I am not usually able to cite all my sources and instead read between the lines.
INTJs can come at me with 5 articles debunking what I'm saying and it's hard to explain why those articles are biased or missing a nuance (the 'don't believe everything you read on the internet' phenomenon)
So, that may be a key way to help people figure out their types. If you are able to cite all your sources you might be an INTJ. If you just have a general 'feel' of between the lines connected I formation, INTP.
6:45 yes. Also this. I can prove INTJs wrong and they will deflect (or find an article that co firms their bias, as is more likely the case). I can admit when I'm wrong, or at least point out when someone made a good point that I have to consider.
11:22 'leveraging knowledge' is a good way to explain what I wrote above.

It's interesting when we talk about our struggles at work because you can see our NTs from different perspectives working. And it usually leads us to move through our frustrations and feeding off each other's humor which also comes from different perspectives. I did show up once as an INTP on a questionnaire, but I probably have half a dozen other times been INTJ or ENTJ. After reading The 16 Personalities Types by Dr. A.J. Drenth, I really feel more along the lines of INTJ faking the ENTJ part-time.

This was a very interesting comparison. I have tested as INTP each time I do the MBTI test. I have a friend who tested as INTJ. He says I'm argumentative, while I think he's very chill, to the point that I can vividly remember ONE incident where he got heated, and I thought, 'Whoa! He must REALLY be pissed!' I've watched several videos - I think mostly by people who say they're ENFP - where they claim that INTPs are opinionated and argumentative, whereas INTJs just want to understand other perspectives, so it's interesting to hear you say the opposite, if I'm interpreting your words correctly. There are other things that you said that made me go 'Hmmmm that sounds more like my INTJ friend than it sounds like me!' and vice versa, but your description of our argumentative styles stood out the most. I do note that I tend to defer to my friend when it comes to real-world applications of things, while he defers to me more about how things work, which I'd say coincides with INTP and INTJ. Incidentally, he doesn't put much stock in the MBTI though, thinks it's BS, so I make sure to talk to him about it every once in a while just to annoy him. Lol. Anyway, yes, really great video; I'll probably be processing the information for quite a while.

I was so stuck between the two types, but your comparisons were spot on and helped me realize I am an INTP and not an INTJ. The clarification between behaviors and cognitive perceptions was a lightbulb lighting up in the dark. The comparisons of how the ISTP is less formal but more in touch with emotions, helped seal the deal.
I wondered why I felt different than ISTJs I was seeing. Their minds and logic seemed so agile compared to my way of absorbing concepts and information. But your descriptions were just what I needed to understand I was mistyping myself. And this after several days of watching other videos trying to understand the intricacies of the cognitive aspects.

Tests are based on your perception, so you maybe are just bad at giving the right answer. But if you have a crisis whether you are INTP or INTJ, you are probably an INTP because the IJ's care a lot less about "who am I" than the IP's. I am an INTJ and I was sometimes not 100% sure if I am organized enough to be a J, but I in the end don't care, since I care a lot more about reaching my goals - well and after that I knew I am an INTJ

i recognise this. this is the reason I checked out this video as well. so far, i think, what happens with me is that I'm young and i don't wanna keep changing every few years for the rest of my life. which is why, I'm trying my best to come up with an identity that i can more or less stick to permanently. but that makes this a very important decision and I'm not intp enough to gather all the information and then finally make my decision. i find some information and immediately wanna process how that changes the way i think about a theory I'm working on. so essentially i keep building myself and breaking myself down and often in the middle of this, i don't feel as confident as all INTJs would appear. all that self doubt and second guessing before i truly get to my decision is what makes me feel like an intp. so when I'm in the process of tearing apart a personality, i test as an intp. and once i see a new direction to rebuild, i get back to seeming like every other INTJ. idk what that makes me, or if I'm really just deluding myself.. but so far this is my theory. sorry that this is too long.

I think a better way to explain how INTPs evaluate something is whether it makes internal sense. A Te user cares whether something is useful while the Ti user cares if it has rules and follows them.
An INTP would like typology because functions have opposites like Ti-Fe, Si-Ne, Te-Fi, and Se-Ni. It makes a system.
An INTJ would like typology for its ability to organize peope into useful groups. They get to know how to best interact with certain types and what strategies are most likepy to be productive and satisfactory.

I have only just discovered your content Alexis, and am enjoying it so flicking back through some of your videos and encountered this one. Thanks for all the videos!
This is an interesting one for me as I have taken various tets I have usually tested as an INTJ, but I am probably hitting more of the INTP categories here.
Religion - I would probably say agnostic is a fair description, I am willing to accept there may be a big something but highly doubt it correlates to any form of organised religion that we have. Although on your comment on astrology I would tend to follow the INTJ logic more (it might be something I would be interested in if I thought it worked and yielded insights even if I wasn't clear as to why).
Arguments I can probably jump either way on, depending on how invested I am, and how reasonable the other party is being! I can admit my argument is wrong if the other party convinces me of that though.
Weirdly while I often prefer communicating by email/text etc, for an argument where I need the back and forth I would generally rather do that in person/verbally.
Knowledge, 100% INTJ, even at school I was very focussed on getting grades and getting to a good university, I selected my subjects based on the ease of getting grades in them, and all of my study was very focussed on grades, I did not do anything study wise which was not aimed at that (I am also very lazy!). My degree choice was based on career goals as well.
Comunication, more INTP in terms of clothing, which is casual (although conservative casual). Verbally I speak fast though, emails tend to be rather short and to the point.
Books I will happily join the INTPs in reading fiction SciFi/Fantasy and other genres (although depends on mood as I can go long periods not reading at all), I don't tend to read many non fiction books, although can often find myself scouring the internet for areas of interest, which are relevant to me at the time.
    Quite a mix there!

Interesting video! As an INTJ, I'd like to share my take on the "INTJs use knowledge for a specific purpose, INTPs just like hoarding it" phrase/idea in the type community. This confused me when I was new at typing but I think I have it figured out now, so hopefully, it can help someone else.
From personal experience, I actually often like learning things just for the sake of it, and a few good sources I know say that Ni-doms, in general, tend to enjoy it because Ni loves data about abstract relationships. I guess it's for the sake of the core *meaning* of the information. If I know the core concept then I can "detach" the unrelated/weak variables and see where else it can be applied or how it connects to other similar concepts in case I need it for the future *even if I don't know where I'm going to use it*, similar to the point you brought up about why INTJs are more likely to take an interest in the occult.
An INTP (or Ti-dom), on the other hand, will tend to be more interested in the logical and cause-and-effect relationships that define a system. They're going to want to study the system in detail and make that internal mind-map, and then *keep it there* when it's finished so they can use it to make a decision or analyze their overarching worldview, and to do that they obviously have to gather as much info about something as possible.
Essentially, Ti is very purposeful with the information it's consuming. If some data isn't logically consistent, Ti will cut it out of the system while Ni will still try to glean some meaning from other aspects of the data.
    (read on for anecdote)
This explains the difference between my thought process and that of an INTP friend I had. We both really liked learning things, but I noticed that he nearly always had a broad conclusion or opinion of some sort after he finished espousing the info. With logic to back it up (even if the evidence was simply logical consistency). I'd have a very solid grasp on the core idea, how to explain and apply it, but would also have to think about it for a little or Google some empirical evidence before I accepted it as a "worldview".

Ive been getting deeper and deeper into reggae the past 4 years or so. I love the socially conscious themes that are universal, along with the spiritual angles of oneness and I’m all about the revolutionary political stuff. It helps that the vibe is full of life and energy to me and soothes my anxiety most of the time. My INFJ wife hates it with a passion and says it’s boring and slow and not of my people. Its actually funny, I dont know if there is such a type, but i literally saw myself half in INTP and half in INTJ in the stuff you were saying. Also when i took tests, it came once as INTJ and other time as INTP. But i see im not the only one looking at the comments... :D
As far as Religion goes: i'd say im agnostic, but i like philosophy and wisdom that basically comes from all kinds of religions. And i try to use the wisdom by living by it.
Arguing- I don't really care that i hurt someone if i say something (i dont usually even notice it), i always express my mind and like to endlessly discuss things to the point of running out of thoughts.
Knowledge - I gain knowledge from everywhere, even some seemingly useless sources, but i always try to see how i could use them but i dont care about some hierarchical structuring (how to use knowledge to gain status or something).
Communication - I try to be professional, be very efficient, no wasting of words if i am in such a situation, but with friends or with people i find connection with i am not really professional nor formal, i care more about words i say, if it could hurt them or how its gonna affect the relationship we have and therefore i express myself a lot slower and think about what i say in between sentences.
Books(Information getting sources i'd say): I find only those that get me information that interest me, but my interest is very broad, but i use almost all of it, even if not instantly but i know i will use all of the info i get later on. (Things about money interest me, but im also very interested in fiction (scifi), i dont like historical and biographies, i dont like emotional books or movies etc. )
Music: I care about the quality of music, the music, i dont care about words in songs. Melody is everything.
Random - i like video games a lot and memes, but about dressing i'd say i like dressing comfortably with style, + with the room style definitely the messy one :D

I think I'm an INTP/J split. That's how I've tested multiple times, and that's what I keep getting from examples: I agree with either view at one time or another, and sometimes I have a synthesis of the two. For example, religion: in the most technical sense, I have to admit I'm an agnostic because of the limits of what we can know and because of the inscrutable nature of the subject. However, there are practical benefits to believing in something (almost like a life hack), and so I CHOOSE to believe in religion. It's a mental gymnastic to try and believe something you know you can't know...mostly accomplished by mental tricks like avoidance.

@@BaneHydraLook at the visual comparisons. INTJs and INTPs express themselves in the physical in totally opposite ways. I also test as nearly 50/50 J/P, but the visual comparisons resolved all of my doubts. INTP = chaos in their environment. They're slobs. INTJ = order, neatness. They tend to be minimalists in their dress and surroundings. If left to your own devices where you could wear what pleases you most and create a physical environment that pleases you most, what would it look like?

For negative traits, INTJs and INTPs lose interest or thrive very differently. For the INTJ, the presence of a use, a goal or an over-arching structure or strategy will drive to seek more and deeper knowledge. The INTJ will hit scenarios where they discover what works without fully knowing why or the situation is unlikely so deeper effort is a waste for the main purpose. The acquisition of pure knowledge without advancing the overall purpose simply loses the interest of the INTJ.
For the INTP, acquisition of knowledge is the elixir and a grand goal or efficient structure is a bore. It’s not that an INTP is not motivated by purpose, it is more like for a 1000 different related situations, the INTP wants to know exactly what is the best thing to do in each in one and precisely why that is so. Staying on the original task is confining, so it can easily fall away.

This is a great compare/contrast video between INTPs and INTJs. In terms of religion, I (being an INTP) am agnostic. I believe that there is a higher power/deity, but his/her name may not be necessarily God, Jesus, Allah, etc. In regards to arguments, I do believe that it is accurate to say that INTPs prefer to debate online simply that we have time to think about it whereas INTJs may prefer live debates. (By the way, I believe arguing online is like participating in the Special Olympics. You're still considered a handicap even if you won the argument.) As for the knowledge section, I think it is spot on. Using myself as an example, I recently looked up a lot of information regarding life on an aircraft carrier, even though I have no plans to join the Navy anytime soon. However, I do have mix feelings about the communications portion. As an INTP, I think that I communicate very professionally. I avoid using contractions (unless it is a personal correspondence) and the correct format/tone. However, the video is spot on about the clothing. I rarely iron my shirts and as long as I look presentable, I am good to go. The video is also spot on about books. My library is filled with fantasy or Star Trek novels and Dungeon and Dragon handbooks. (yes, nerd/geek alert.) Overall, it's very informative and further helps me validate my personality type.

Very good video. I am a male ambivert NTJ and I am around many women who are INTJs. Your discussion of the differences between INTP and INTJ caused me to think of an engineering firm where the INTPs were the working engineers and the INTJ was possibly their manager. All engineers, but the INTPs would argue with each other over the soundness of the research on a particular application whereas the INTJ would say, "ok, folks, we are going to have to come to some kind of consensus and move forward with that." I really liked your discussion of religion and INTJ. That was incredibly accurate! My own religious beliefs would be considered unconventional and many of the INTJs I know are also spiritual, but may be attracted to alternative interpretations of any religious tradition, even blending traditions where it seems to work. Books, same story, spot-on. although I do think the NTJ will more likely ask, how does this help better understanding in some way? Clothing and dress, I have met the socks, sandals, and cargo shorts folks. They are usually very bright and are often considered eccentric by other personality types. It often takes an INTJ or an ENTJ to see their deeper value to whatever project is being addressed.

I really do care about the "why" in understanding things and like to take time in intellectual pursuits, being a devil's advocate to myself and others. While I have a set of subjects that I focus on, I do enjoy attaining broad knowledge and making connections between different fields. I tend to dress both like an INTJ and INTP as the UA-camr described and like broad musical genres, including classical. I'm solidly an INTP, especially cognitively, although that's obviously a self-assessment (as is the test, for that matter). Most everything you said rings true. I gave up cargo pants and lettered t-shirts a few ago, but I think that's more of an age thing. My depictions of the two are physicist vs engineers. The physicist (intp) focus on asking why, and work to understand and inform others, providing them validation from others that they are "smarter", however it is all theoretical. The engineer (intj) is focused on asking how, and explores potential paths. However, this is practical based and the validation is achieved by progressing with their own values. However, both will use what ever resource is required.

Cue a year long off and on study of trying to figure which one I am. This was by far the most helpful comparison to help me come to terms with the best high probability I was in fact INTP all along. I think you did a great job of trying to cater to INTP while making your arguments here and every example was on point. Argumentative on Reddit, but cautious and catering in person, Moody rock and technical jazz, comfort wear. You started to stick INTP to just reading fiction which perplexed me but you quickly fixed it. I'll listen to audiobooks and podcasts ranging from history to economics to statistics to fantasy to science fiction. Anything is educational and I'll listen to anything that I might learn and store away for a day I might could need it. The Martian apparently seems to be the highly technical fiction tailor made for INTP and the book was absolutely amazing. I could go back and listen to the other examples given to add to my review but I feel the point has long been made for you INTJ. Many of your observations and theory are akin to my own.
For instance, you mentioned that INTJs might be more interested in the occult or that type of thing than the INTP would.
I literally just told someone yesterday that an INTP is more likely to be a scientist whereas an INTJ is more likely to be a demonologist.
HAHAHA Personally, I am fascinated by the paranormal. I have so many questions.
Oh and your thoughts on INTP vs INTJ taking a test, where an INTP might focus on the words chosen and their literal meanings, while the INTJ comes from the angle of "what is it the point of this question? what is it that it wants me to say?" ... THAT. Great observation and yes. Totally that.
And I concur with INTJ's being more into nonfiction than fiction, although I LOVE me a good Stephen King book. But a nonfiction book that is on a topic that I find useful or fascinating, one I can pick up and open to a section that is relevant, those books I love. For me, enjoy what could be qualified as "self-help" books; but the way I like to go with those is a bit more on the darker side than most people would associate with that genre. Think Robert Greene. Okay...such a cool video, great explanations and very interesting system to always put a sign to the function explained! Im into mbti & functions already for longer and mostly saw/see myself as INTP but still get occasiuonal thoughts about being INTJ, mainly for potentially aligning with Te-Fi. But this video once again kinda confirmed me being INTP in most to all aspects
Basics: Id say I ratehr have a precise language but broad interests (politics, mbti, scifi, social cultures, football/fan culture,...)
Religion: Im a hardcore atheist, rejecting all spiritual patterns as "irrational". Things either exist scientifically or they do not exist at all. The only aspect of religion/cults/... I like is the aesthetics
Debate style: Im usually staying detached and objective, always analyse topics from multiple angle and actually want to understand the thought processes or values of the counter side without judging them too much for myself. I can get more emotional/moral in some topics like pacifism tho. Generally online debating is more confy because I have actuzally the time to process and structure my point and to ensure logical consistency and end up writing huge blocks of my topic
Knowledge: Almost always has the first intention to stimulate me intellectually and I dont care about whether I can use it or not. If theres a topic interesting enought dissecting how sth works then ill read about it...
Communication style: I can get direct and efficient, but mostly only if I already have pre-thought out my reasonings before internally, else I will communicate way more hesitant, with processing breaks and end up not saying major important points because I may be unsure of its logical consistency
Books/Series/Movies: Almost exclusively scifi or fantasy. The more time travels, aliens, supernatural phenomena, the better!
Only 2 points where I could more resonate with the INTJ points are
-Multiple Choice Questions: Even tho I like text-based answering to express own thoughts, I am quickly able to dissect the underlying intention behind an answer choice
-Music: I only prefer msuic based on its emotional, athmospheric or rhythmic vibe, not based on technical quality. I generally listen to harder electronic music like Techno or Hardcore, also some Metal

    *2 comments on your analysis:
    1. INTJs are more emotionless than INTPs
    2. INTP = collect more information but not deeply
INTJ = can specialize in specific discipline and yes deeper than INTPs
1:- on the first case, you conclude the opposite maybe cuz the INTP you know seems less emotional from the time or perspective you perceived or that is a rare case. you have to take more samples.
2:- INTPs can tell INTJ many areas about many field but INTJ can refute and disprove INTPs when it comes to specificity.
INTPs are good at a general analysis of something but INTJs are better at critical analysis of a specific area, it is partially because if INTJs don't want to gather information unless it relates to something they want, and will go deep because they constantly keep asking "what if this way" that will basically rebut their own perspective and as an analogy of obsessing to have contingency plans.
    ______
additionally; INTJs can be way religious because they are proclive to be extremely ethical.

Interesting video(s), I like your content. But I have to say, as someone that's scored very consistently as an INTP over the last decade, having done various tests about 15 times or so and scoring INTP everytime, that the general themes you describe, well, it might still be statistically true, but they don't apply to me at all. Based on the things you said in this video I'm more of an INTJ, when I'm really not (Te is literally my weakest/least used function according to cognitive function tests, and I absolutely loathe Te authority and haughtiness/bluntness, especially when coupled with any kind of condescending vibes).
But although I grew up atheist (my mom's an atheist), I always felt drawn towards religion and now consider myself buddhist sort of, at least sort of inspired/affiliated/interested in many of the core ideas of it, and I like religious people over atheists most of the time as long they're pretty chill (I might prefer a crazy atheist over a crazy religious person). I also don't read books, like at all. I never care enough to complete any, I sort of (as you correctly identified) prefer dictionaries or encyclopedias, books that I can look something up in, not read for the sake of reading, I've always hated that. I'm proud of having completed two full books in my life, one of them being Camus' The Stranger. Many of the general things you say are true, like the Ne clothing style, pretty much spot on. The way I see it your Ni seem pretty powerful, like when you pull ideas out on their own seem strong and spot on, but when you pull ideas out on behalf of your Te (statistical ideas about people (Fe polr?)) they seem sort of off to me. Great video though, thanks for making these, I especially like the asterisk idea/implementation.

I'm -supposedly- an INTP (I've taken the official MBTI test 2x), but after watching this I can say that I am legitimately an amalgamation of these 2 🤷‍♀️ on her channel Casual cognition, Calypso talks about facial features and expressions as they relate to cognitive functions such as an Fi smile vs. an Fe smile and I naturally have an Fi smile.

I agree with basically all of this, as an INTP. One thing though, is that I only read non-fiction. This is not because I can't "use" fiction, but rather that it doesn't add to my inner knowledge framework or understanding of the world. I read non-fiction, but perhaps different from INTJs. Maybe INTJs would read a lot of self help books, about how to get rich, etc etc. Stuff that they can use to help with their practical lives. I read science books or philosophy books, which help me develop my understanding of thoughts on the world. So my non-fiction needn't have a practical real world use, but must help stimulate my Ti thoughts.

I read a lot of classic literature, folktales, short stories. I think because it helps me figure out the human condition. Non-fiction usually about something i don't already understand, or a user manual.. lol.

i honestly do both, i spend an year learning about philosophy and different branches to get my beliefs together, now all i read are practical stuff- i do think i lean intj more. since the branches of philosophies i read were like the meta stuff, phil of religion consciousness, action. not morality or the things that are too what ought be the case and very theoretical. i read thise philosophies to see if i can cut out religion out of my life whihc takes alot oftime & space. it worked
