  • We all have that idea that we can't shake out of our head, the one that we think about in the shower or daydream about. Entrepreneur Job Gebbia, shares how his team grew their idea, Airbnb, into a national startup the hard way: by staying lean, "doing things that don't scale" like meeting users one at a time, and by taking one small step at a time.
Joe leads us in a storyboarding exercise that helped his team take ideas and push them into reality. If you'd like to follow along, download the Airbnb Storyboard Frame sheet and grab a pencil. When finished, tweet Joe at @jgebbia, and be sure to use the hashtag #nextstep.

Makes complete sense. Your brain thinks in pictures, not words. That's why "vision boards" work so well. I am making my drawing tonight!

I like how they talk strategy instead of just feel good positive thinking. There is ground base reality to consider as well. Not every strategy is a good one. I've heard many times--"if you believe enough you will be successful." That is not accurate. Like running to LA to become that actor with no backup plan. Luck is a huge factor in that fair or not, that is a reality. The idea that self belief is what makes the success driven successful is only a small part of the equation. The guru will tell you the universe aligns with you with self belief. Not true. Self belief + plan of action that is researched + massive effort----that is what makes success and sometimes ill luck causes failure as well. Most of the gurus, great or small say the same thing I tell my own subscribers--you have to plan well and engage in effort and constantly re-evaluate what is working and what isn't. Hope this helps someone out there---Charles

"...and we started getting desperate! New ideas came rushing in our minds. We saw the empty space in our living room and thought: Airbnb! It's like uber for houses..." Lol.
