I was carrying off a load of scrap metal and old lead acid batteries and while I was there I noticed a diamond in the rough..... A GEM CAR! I quickly went to check it out and while I did my son was recording me from the truck. Not going to lie, I was in ahhh! I've been looking for a gem car for a while and there was this one sitting at the scrap metal yard.
I took a pic of it and showed the guys back in the office, They said AS-IS $300. The scrap that I originally took made $100, so I came out of pocket for $200. I jumped on this deal just because it had what looked to be a aftermarket D&D motor but after further inspection it was a re-labeled ride 4 fun motor.
In todays video we going to see if we can get it running or not! - Навчання та стиль
Hello there my friend. Code 11 on yale older forklifts with a Curtis controller is that micro switch in the accelerator assembly. So I'd go ahead and swap that out. And make sure that switch activates before the pot starts it's sweep. Hopefully it helps.. Thanks for your videos 👍 as a forklift mechanic that works on ev only I enjoy how you tackle each project 😁
Great video! That's a great score since you already have lithium batts for it. Not a Gem guy but I would replace that micro switch and potentiometer since that's cheap and would eliminate that as an issue
Looking forward to the follow on video for this Gem E825. I am interesting to see how that lithium battery works out. If I can find one of these locally for cheap, I might get one for summer runabout duty. Running around the neighborhood and to the grocery store. Perfect plan to spend $1000 to $4000 to save $45 in gas.
Spitting on the gauge to clean it is A CLASSIC GOTTA LOVE RYAN HE KEEPS IT REAL 👍🏾
Your the man ! Out of the junk yard to up and down the street. Isn’t it fun when they come back to life ! Enjoy the process.
I love when they do!
Any follow up video's on the GEM, would love to see what happened with it.
Your shop is not a mess. You can still work in it. Mine is full so I work out in the yard.
For $300 it's a win no matter what you do with it. You got lucky too with it taking so little to get it running. I wasn't expecting you to get so lucky with it after it going for $300.
Not going to lie, I wasnt either.
Make sure all your contacts are clean. As well as all cables are good. I’ve had carts with new batteries, cut off because contacts are corroded or wires don’t make good contact underneath the shrink wrap connector. Controller sees it as insufficient amperage from the battery and will cut off temporarily.
You need to replace the micro switch in the pedal..
It's the little switch next to the potentiometer..
I'm pretty sure that's what is cutting out on you They are notorious for doing that...
I have two of these carts. Cannot wait to see what's next for this project.
Love this, I see a lot of them for sale and can’t wait to see what you can do with it.
Hey bro, I forget what the website is but on the ignition itself there’s a name brand and there should be four digit numbers, you can type into the Internet and find the website and they will send you a key for 30 bucks or so. I had to do it myself. Wish I could remember the website for you be it shouldn’t be to hard to fine.
Yessss! I’m thinking a Navitas ac and lithium conversion is in this GEM’s future.
Badass!
A few beers and I could hang out with you all day tweaking on that thing 🤙
What a GEM lol cheers nice job! I suspect the potentiometer has a dead spot in it find out the swing .5-5V and replace it, your power loss should be resolved I don't feel its the micro switch as it happens when the throttle is in use so i would swap out the pot control and retest IMO 95% sure when the pot goes to 0v this is what would happen (dead spot)
i agree
I freaking LUV these things. This is one project I really am interested in. The LSV part of this is great.
For key switches I always use a "hot rod" ignition switch for like $16 on all my golf carts and projects.
Biggest thing is going to see if you can get a title
Thanks and I agree!
I am interested to see what type of 72 V batteries you were going to put into this GEM Cart most 12 V lithium batteries can only be series or parallel at four units maximum I have two of these carts that need batteries and I don't wanna put lettuce in her AGM's in them again.
Hi , great help to me. I just bought a similar GEM E825, Zero experience with these as well. Was thinking of converting to ion system
@Fentertainment-- watching this new video you just posted inspired us to update our 2001 2-Passenger Short-bed GEM e825. We’re going to copy what you’ve done here, ordered our Lithium battery and accessories. Will arrive soon! PS, used your code and saved $, TY!
Are you using the Zivan charger (usually used for the gel bats) for the ion batteries? Thanx
I think this is going to be a really cool build you can drive those on the road
Remember you can always use your handbrake to stop just keep the button push so you won't lock brake can even use it to stop
Can't wait to see the build
11 accelerator pedal stuck safety lock out check for debris or floor mat
lodged under pedal
get r done cousin.....love the LT Dan reference.
I genuinely enjoyed this junkyard win awesome
What’s up with the GEM car Ryan? I bought one after I saw your video. I can’t find very many parts. Can’t wait to see what you end up doing with yours.
I have one and had the same problem it was the parking brake switch
At 16:40, the 4 pin you pointed out is for factor gps. Will you put the cover over the controller to keep it from getting wet and failing? I hear ya on those rear leafspring bushings in the older DS cars, they can be a bear.
It looks like they took a tig welding foot pedal control for amperage and used that to keep it simple
Had the same issue with mine and found that this code is triggered when you have the pedal depressed when you change from forward to reverse or the other way around. I found that mine was a loose wire or dirty contact in the forward reverse switch.
Would love to see more content like this!
I try to make will it runs, Did one Sunday on a flooded ezgo. Recording one now for an upcoming episode.
Bagged gem is insane
The Gem will make for some interesting videos. ✌🏻
Love to see a follow up on this vehicle
Will be working on it this year. I still have it and havent done anything with it since this video.
The locksmith can make a key a lot less that that.
the accelerator pot is bad.. replace it to eliminate the HPD fault
Thats what I was thinking as well.
Nailed it!
my battery's keeps darning . won't keep a charge. plug in overnight drive it two blocks, batters drained.
I'm a locksmith use that code on the face of the lock to have a key cut by code!
I will look at the key code and let you know. I appreciate it.
This one had a lot of jump scares 😂
I have the same gym car and I’ve been trying to get it running. There’s no charger in this when someone has taken it well it operate without it.
I'm not real familiar with these as this was and is my only one ive ever been around or worked on. However since there were no batteries in this and the batteries I used werent compatible with the charger I dont see why it wont.
Does anyone know what size torx security bits are used to remove the front panel/ignition switch? I'm having no luck with it and have wasted money on the wrong ones haha
I’m wondering if it is so noisy because maybe they had to drain the differential fluid to scrap it?
Not sure.... Might check into that down the road.
what happen to the GEM my man ? sold it ? or another project "sometimes" ? :)
It will be on the channel hopefully this year. I still have it.
Hoping to see it on 35's one day!
LOL!
I'm looking for a golf cart around $20.00 or get rid of the way
has there been a update video on this project ???????
Not yet, Its on the list for this year though. Been making plans on what we are planning to do with it.
awsome !

I wanted a Gem but couldn’t afford any near me so I got a Lytong and got ripped off but oh well
Ah the poor Sun car! The Gem is cool. Charger should have been under the hood. I love those things. Do yourself a favor and just rip out all the wiring and start over. Make it simpler
I think the original charger was a Delta Q charger. Maybe was upgraded when the new motor was put in?
@@RBallarddesigns Im thinking so. Once I get brakes I will run it and see what it will do but so far without brakes i know it will run in the 30s.
@@Fentertainment that’s an awesome project and a cool video. Inspiring
@Fentertainment With the suspension and brakes these things have, I would have this thing AC motor converted and flying in no time....When I looked at that Ford Think chasis, it looked wider, I saw 3 Falcons under the seat of one Big Battery did.....
This is gonna be fun 🎉🥳🥳🥳
Great deal for $300 - I have one ? I noticed your gem solenoid only clicks when it turns on - mine clicks whenever I take my foot off the accelerator- does anyone know it there is a fix for that and is it ok to leave as is - my first gem 2000 e825 - with ride for fun motor - thanks for any advice
I CANNOT FIND NY OTHER VIDEOS ON THIS PROJECT,,,,,WHAT HAPPENED TO IT?
They didn’t happen yet. I hope to get to it this summer
Would you know where to fine the vin on this car
Look at the roof on the drivers side.
The breaks just need to be bled. It’s been sitting for a while.
What size trailer is that?
2 questions can a summit 2 charger charge big batteries in a cart ? And have yiu heard of big battery mustang
Im not 100% sure on the summit charger, I thought so but not sure. I have seen the mustang and its a lot of battery. Ive thought about reviewing it. Not sure I have enough cart to hold its size.
so whats up with this gem? i just found a 2 seat utility for 200 without batteries . im thinking 212 predator ,live axle swap because its a 3 link rear axle it would be very easy to do .
I still have it and plan to finish it this year. Im staying with electric though, Im not a gas fan. Ive done what you're thinking of doing before on an ezgo I got for free once.
now the way i look at is a battery will cost $500 and a new predator 212 is $120 today. $30 amazon vm22 carb kit, $32 420 chain clutch kit, grind a key into the shaft coming out of the tranny and make a adaptor to hold a sprocket to it then bend up a exhaust pipe under the car and put a $30 amazon motorcycle muffler. sell the 72 volt stuff and get a $30 12v lawnmower battery to run the rest , in the end it would be quiet and dirt cheap to run it around .@@Fentertainment
Do you sale what you fix? What state are you located?
@@jayheadrick6628 sometimes, sc
Gotcha. I am in GA. I have been looking for a cart that I can redo and have for the family. I am a fix it guy. LOL!!!! How do you find these deals you find.
@@jayheadrick6628 Found this one at the scrap yard like shown in the video. I was just there. I have a video showing others how I find them for cheap tho.
I'm looking for a golf cart around $20.00 or get rid of the way
I'm from Monticello Kentucky
Do you install batteries for customers? If so how much would you charge?
I can. Where do you live?
Wow, thanks for your reply. I live in Minnesota
@@kukkiwon1723 Little to far to travel for lithium install as im in SC.
@Fentertainment shoot. Well do you mind giving me a ballpark price anyways? If the price is reasonable I'll still consider it
thats clean
only i thing i know they were a dodge chrysler
What happened to this cart?
I still have it, I need to work on it again or start a build with it or something.

Did you run that meter over? 🤣
I think you were the first one to catch that! Hahahaha
@@Fentertainment Just watched this last night and I was so scared for that poor meter! I saw you hear it fall off but it didn't seem to register, you were too excited. then a few moments later you were hauling with no brakes right where it had to have landed. RIP Multimeter?
@@btroehm For a harbor freight meter its very rugged. It still works and I still have it. It was only $19 too.
