I honestly hope KD’s 50th anniversary doesn’t turn out like GAdv’s disastrous 50th this year once Rapterra opens. The park certainly could use a B&M Hyper in their lineup since P305 scares GP’s away for its intensity.
KD needs to fill the holes in its lineup. I suggest a Mack hyper coaster, Vekoma STC, or a large family coaster. In the future remove Anaconda and replace it with a Vekoma tilt or large scale multi launch like Abyssus at Energylandia!!!
After opening their new B&M Wing Coaster, Rapterra, here’s what I could see Kings Dominion do in the next few years: *The Old Virginia section needs a lot of attention. Very little has changed with its attraction lineup, especially with the removal of Dinosaurs Alive. Here’s what the park could do to the area: - The area between White Water Canyon and where Dinos used to be could make for a small sub-section, with an Appalachian mining camp theme. - You could see a few new flat rides and a couple of shops. - Repurpose the Old Dominion Steam Line maintenance shed into an eatery. - As for what could go into the old Dinos plot of land, a new S&S Axis Coaster could work. *Update the park entrance facade and the parking lots *Updates for Soak City *Repaint Racer 75 (they could repaint the crest of the lift hill white to match the rest of the coaster, as well as the rails red and handrails blue like the Racer at Kings Island) *Upgrade Boo Blasters on Boo Hill like at Carowinds; new blasters, targets, scoring systems, and replace the rest of the blacklight that overexposes everything. *Repurpose the Action Theater for a new attraction or show. *Add some shrubbery and planters along the outside of the fence where Dominator is. *A small development could go where the Peanuts Amphitheater space would be perfect. You could see a Vekoma Family Boomerang, a refresh of Flying Ace, maybe another small flat ride and a general remake of Planet Snoopy just like Kings Island did. *As for Anaconda, I could see it biting the dust and get replaced with a new Vekoma Bermuda Blitz coaster (something like Lech at Legendia). *Add a new nighttime spectacular during the summer months, similar to Fun, Fireworks and 50 at Kings Island. *Re-theme Project 305, Backlot Stunt Coaster and Flight of Fear to make them a part of Jungle X-Pedition.
Also take out anaconda . Worst ride in the park . Replace it with a family suspended coaster keep the pond there .. simply . I love all your suggestions and really we have some of the same ideas
@@Coaster_Crashthey could repaint and change the name during the offseason and be ready to open when Rapterra opens next year. They did the same with Apple Zapple when Twisted Timbers opened in 2018
I always liked a hyper coaster in that area but I would have it turn towards white water canyon instead. The views would be really cool back there and it would reduce trees needed to removed around grizzly.
KD & BGW used to be my home parks. Always liked the esthetic of BGW more. Will be making a trip to KD when this opens. My only gripe with this ride is that it should have been a hyper wing, that way it would have given KD that graceful and unique hyper they need. Plus it really would draw a crowd for being the worlds tallest wing coaster. I do miss Volcano. Used to talk mess about it because it was such a short ride and I also had Magic Mountain as my home park at the time. But once I moved to VA and experienced for myself, it's intensity made up for its short ride length. I mean, it was a prototype too so I appreciate the enginuity and uniqueness of the ride even more now.
A Mack Hyper seems like the most logical major coaster Kings Dominion should add next. Although I think the station should be where Action Theater is and have the layout go along the edge between the park's warehouse buildings and the park itself just north of the Shenandoah Lumber Company log flume. Regardless I think Kings Dominion has a great future and I am happy for the park!
I am BEGGING for an inverted version of Voltron coming to KD in the future. Nothing too tall or too fast, just fun and unique elements with great theming, multi launches, riding under the track, plus it would be an adequate Volcano replacement ;) Or a Mack Extreme Spinner like ride to happiness would be cool, but I have heard it has been a little too intense for the GP, and KD definitely needs more GP friendly coasters. A really cool flat ride would be nice as well.
Before we can talk about another major thrill coaster, there are lots of other things I believe Kings Dominion needs to focus on first. My top priority would be an expansion with Soak City by adding a new mat racer and a water coaster and some splash effects to the lazy river. Next, I would expand Planet Snoopy by adding a new kids coaster like Snoopy's Soap Box Racers at Kings Island. Somewhere in between all that, I would give Intimidator 305 some sort of space theme and put that and Flight of Fear in their own separate space area similar to Area 72 at Kings Island. Finally, when it's time for another major thrill ride, I would build a unique roller coaster that we don't have to many of in America, like an S&S El Loco or a Zierrer Tower Coaster, in that space previously occupied by Hypersonic XLC. Do they still use the Action Theater for anything? If not, maybe they could bring in DC characters and use that building for Justice League: Battle for Metropolis.
What's your opinion on the Kings Island son of beast teasers..The RMC font tag on the crates...TT is a fantastic ride,I rode dominator when it was at Geauga Lake..Future is bright for KD
Bro I've been saying for years that this plot of land would be perfect, but for a mack hyper. They most likely won't do a b&m hyper because BGW already has one. But a mack would be fantastic. Also, I don't think they need a family coaster first. You have Woodstock, reptillian, backlot, apple apple, and racer. All are very kid friendly, and are different ride experiences from eachother. The biggest need at KD is an innovative coaster. Something new generation
(Responding to question about The Volcano...) Volcano is iconic, the first of it's quite (literally). Honestly, the ride itself was overhyped (though a good ride) and short...but the icon of the mountain and the uniqueness of the coaster going through and around the mountain was a sign of true innovation. I rode the Volcano probably 30-40x's (KD is also my home park). It's sad they couldnt keep it as the Volcano and KD went together (even though KD has Project 305, TTimbers, Dominator, and so on...)... BUT, this is a respectable replacement...
I would honestly love to see KD develop the land between Dominator and Planet Snoopy. That patch of land is ripe for easy expansion while filling in an empty, flat space.
My perspective is forward looking post merger; taking into consideration both are now in the same company and have market overlap. I feel KD's future and that of SFA are tied together. The old Cedar Fair was great at targeting underserved markets and clearly SFA falls into that category. From a business standpoint it makes sense to build up SFA. I say this because of the BGW competition. Population density is another consideration. SFA would have more weekday/water park visitors, where DC locals might only do KD on the weekends. The new company will have a choice to make, which park will receive heavy invests or which park will be sold and be relegated to Michigan Adventure status.
When holiday world opened thunderbird...I said that cedar fair executives would end up checking it out to see if it's worth investing in...and clearly they really liked it and here we are with rapterra...
If King's Dominion does get a hyper, it can't be a B&M. It's competing park, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, right down the way, has Apollo's Chariot, the very first B&M hyper. It's the same reason that BGW, unfortunately, can't get an RMC I-box.
@@Eddytainment Man, why can't every park get a giga-RMC Hybrid with 9000 seconds of ejector airtime and a 3g launch 😢Honestly such a tragedy. (Neither park has gotten a raptor/T-rex yet though so there's still hope for that.)
I think the S hill will be the sleeper hit of rapterra, especially on the right side. It looks so whippy and it looks to have great airtime, and because of the wing seating it will have amplified laterals.
I think Volcano is overhyped. It was a one trick pony (blasting out of the mountain) and then sort of meh. Way too short of a ride and I don't get all the hype people have for it
i think the next logical move for this park would be to build a rail spur and run for themselves or by contract with VRE a rail service between the park and washington dc. 30 ish percent of households in dc are car free and i bet even more aren't a fan of the drive so this could majorly improve attendance. then id say to add a hotel and start focusing on weekenders from more of the northeast.
I have had the privilege to have the volcano roller coaster credit from 1998 till when it closed. Volcano always had a line 2 hr or better consistently was never a walk on. Volcano roller coaster had its on personality in a way. I can tell by not even riding this new wing coaster I am not going to enjoy this better than I did volcano.
KD is my home park I don’t feel like project 305 or twisted timbers is too intense for the GP . If these 2 coasters were anywhere else IE cedar point or somewhere in Orlando it would be a hit coaster .. KD has a really good line up of coasters .after repterra maybe they should focus on a suspended family coaster or even a lay down coaster like manta at sea world.. they have room in the old Virginia area where dinosaurs alive use to be. KD is really shaping up to be a destination for true coaster enthusiasts to come and experience. But KD local crowd aren’t coaster enthusiasts and that sucks for what my local park can truely do
Cedar fair spit on kings dominion and gave them a frickin free spin in like the span of a decade… I think if they just consistently give KD investments then it could be great. Maybe even better than BGW in the future but I really don’t think it’s on par with BGW at the moment

P305…….that hurts every time I hear or see it. Hopefully they will re-theme it soon
Ever since B&M's are usually reliable and they're basically done with the layout, I can see Rapterra opening on time!

Kings Dominion is a top 3 overall park in the new chain imo but a floater hyper would make it undisputed.
