I agree on your critique of vc2 except for you questioning that the civil war was just 2 years after the other big war, it actually makes sense that the Gassenarls try earlier rather than later, if it gave them better chances at achieving their goals its been a long time since i played vc2 tho so i might be forgetting something Tho i dont think vc2 sucks, its just a ok game
VC2 was my first game in the series. It was interesting enough for me to check out VC1 when it got a PC release and Boy Was I hooked then. VC3E2 Is my personal fave in the series shame most people can't experience this entry.
Wow, no wonder nobody talks about vc2. I got interested in the series after playing Project X Zone 1 which starred vc3 characters and it's a relief to hear that the game was really good despite it's lack of popularity. I've played the first one and it was really good, so I'm excited to play vc4 when I get the chance. So far, I really like this series.
PS: The way you mentioned how the only class you didn't use was gunner because stormtroopers could defend camps better than gunners and be better at the offense is kind of sad to me because I really liked using gunners in VH2. (The spreading fire of gunner is not really well designed if it was meant to help gunners hit multiple enemies, it failed, because it would barely hit opponents that are not very close). I think the way they could rebalance it is that Stormtrooper -> Stormtrooper Vet -> Commandos/Elite would increase AP and evasion to make them more flexible at attacking. While Stormtrooper -> Gunner -> Elite Gunner/Heavy Gunner would lower their AP and evasion, but increase their hp, def, and most importantly, their DPS, suppression fire, and counter. So long story short, gunners would lose mobility but gain a lot of firepowers, while stormtroopers would gain mobility. It would make gunners do better at defending and stormtroopers better at attacking. It would be a much better solution than spread fire that makes gunners miss a ton when counterattacking.
As much I'm fine with VC2, but yeah its underwhelming if not because the gameplay. Even that still sadly fell like what I called "Mobile game tropes" with the part grinds and RNG. But yeah, VC3 is GOAT. The story was probably the best in the series, where else you put on the shoes of unwanted suicide squad, when most game probably going for elite special force trope
I played VC2 completely blind of reviews and opinions and even though I enjoyed it (I don't think it was a waste of time) I practically agree 100% with you. Missions are SO EASY. You just take no damage! I thought it was because I was overleveled, but it seems I was not the problem. I also dropped it when I reach December, and went to watch the ending on UA-cam because I knew I would win easily anyway it was just a matter of droppping some hours on it. The story is complete high school BS but I'm fine if this was what they were striving for. I expected nothing of the characters but it did had some good moments, particularly I found the mission focused on Zeri (when he goes plant the bomb) pretty cool. The concept of Cosette being color blind by trauma was a really good idea but a shame it was wasted on this average game. Anyway it was good to see some evolution on the formula, with the new class Battle Tech (btw my Fencer Alexis just OHKOed everything on her path, or killed any boss in 1 turn) and class promotions. I just watched half of the video when writing this, but I had to write it. Now I'm trying to decide if I play next VC3 or VC4 (I'm having problems trying to run VC3...).
By the way, also about different classes, I NEVER had to use ANY Engineer on this game. I promoted my Engineers anyway because I thought they could be useful on some advanced, harder maps but no. With bases being everywhere you just pop the character you want and do what you need. And while I liked class promotions, I think the new Battle Tech class was a little strange, it felt weird to use a sword and shield on a gunfire battlefield.
Definitely play vc3 It has much better storytelling, with less shenanigans than vc2 also fixes the difficulty (actually quite hard), they ditch the credits for just having exp for each unit, which is more natural.
I am currently playing Valkiria Chronicles 2 and I don't think it is that bad. The story is basic and not all that special when compared to others, but as the first game of the series to start, it is acceptable. The pros of VH2 I think are the class system, because it allows a lot of customization, and my fave class was a gunner (because it could defeat enemies hiding in the grass or behind cover in one turn, something stormtroopers and other classes would need 2 turns). But I hated the credit system. Grinding to unlock new classes for my team was a nightmare because it was so random. Now that I see that VH2 is considered the worst, and VH3 is a lot better while using the same class system that VH2 uses, I am kind of interested in playing VH3, even if with only fan translation.
I do kinda wish you kept around these ending edits. Like imagine at the end of the story of sonic and the black knight it was a sick ass edit set to the knight of the wind! I mean come one pariah! Oh well the series is over anyways.
02:16 i mean they're ARMY cadets aren't they? There were a lot of examples of child soldiers in real life. Also russian civil war started right after the end of ww 1.
Really good! I've been looking for a good in detail review of these games!

VC3 fixes the gameplay issues of vc2 (i really hate credits oh my god) while having a better plot

Can't believe I missed this review from you, been meaning to check out VC ever since I heard it was the series the Skies of Arcadia guy worked on.

Wish they remaster for console and make another game, really a underrated series and game

it's always a fun time when the unit you barely used throughout the mission gets a Diploma
@@FishInDaToilet Even funnier when it gets multiple.

VC4 had piss poor intercept fire too i can stand there for 1 hour and they will prob take 5 % of HP
I like how bored you used to sound in your videos. Your new stuff is better obviously but it’s pretty funny to hear you sound so oddly dissociated.
Valkyria chronicles 2 is actually a great game
